My mother in law traditionally gave a monogramed LLBean backpack to every grandchild to start their first day of kindergarten. My daughter being one of the youngest grandchildren is now a Jr. in High School. Yesterday she came home and sadly said my backpack is broken. I got on line to look to see about replacing and had hers next to me to try to match. Turns out it jut zipped up wrong and now it is working perfectly. Thanks LLBean the gift that was given so long ago is a reminder of her grandmother and we didn't want to replace such a memory it goes everywhere with her. To school, to sleep overs, on trips. Thanks LLBean for making such a durable product that can be depended on to keep the precious things she needs with her safe and dry.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Texanmommy Great backpack, even greater company!
I originally bought this backpack for my son in Lime. I ended up not liking the color, as it was brighter than it looked online. I thought I was stuck with it because the backpack had been monogrammed, but LL Bean happily exchanged it for me anyway. Other competitors would never do that. Customer service could not have been friendlier or more helpful. I love the backpack (the new one is red), and am very impressed with it, however, I am even more impressed with how LLBean treats it's customers.

I was so excited to buy this pack for my little girl because I knew it would last, liked the features & the print was so cute! I did check the measurements & figured it would work out well. We tried all her school things in it & it just wasn't enough room. We tried an 11"x12" folder, her sweater, an 8"x5" pencil pouch, a 1L water bottle & a 9"x 6" lunch box. It simply wasn't enough room & the poor pack was bulging to keep all that in. I think if the front pocket were bigger,...say 9"x9", then I think we would have kept it. The organization within the pocket are nice but the pocket is only about 7" x7". We had to fold down part of the pencil pouch to put in that pocket. We usually keep the pencil pouch in there & the morning snack. I would have ordered a bigger pack, but she really wanted this Blue Woodland Critter pattern. Could LL Bean add this beautiful pattern to some of the bigger packs?
I will say that I was impressed with the appearance, hardware & durability of the pack. The zippers, stitching & straps look strong, tolerant of the daily school abuse & well made. It simply wasn't big enough for what we need it to hold.

Rated 5 out of 5 by MelanieSD Perfect for Preschool, Kindergarten, Early Grades
Love the size and durability of this pack. My daughter has used it for p/t preschool and nearly a year of kindergarten (where it gets a little abused) and it still looks brand new. It fits a regular sized folder well (this is required for a lot of schools since they put a folder in and it stays there for school/home correspondence).
Also love the size; I see a lot of kids with backpacks that far too big for them, but this one fits her perfectly. Cute too (we have the woodland critters version). It has just enough pockets to put extras, but not too many to make finding things difficult. Younger daughter will be starting school next year and we'll definitely be getting her the same kind!

Rated 4 out of 5 by MommyAlwaysonthego Great backpack for Toddlers entering Preschool!
I purchased this backpack for my 3 yr son, who will be starting Preschool this year. I have looked all over for a backpack that will last a few yrs until he is in Kindergarten. This is the one! We just received it the other day, and it fits him PREFECT! I love the color (Royal Blue), and the compartments on the outside of the backpack, we also added his name to it. I've seen other brand name backpacks, that only have enough room to put in a change of clothes and snack ,that are more money. This LLBean backpack has enough room for, books, change of clothes, snacks and more!
LLBean has great quality merchandise, great pricing & return policy. If you are looking for a backpack for a Preschooler, this is the one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by JamielynnfromVa great for daycare
I got this when my now 3 year old was an infant...simply because it was cute and on sale. I started using it immediately for all of her daycare stuff that we needed to take weekly with all of extra and needed items. On mondays I pack it with her clean blankets, animal and extra clothes and on fridays they fill it for me to take home for the wash. It still looks brand new. She can even carry it herself now, and she thinks she is big. Im sure this will be her kindergarten backpack in a few more years. I had llbean backpacks as a child too...and they were the only ones I didnt have to replace.

Rated 5 out of 5 by amshki PERFECT for preschoolers!
This bag is the PERFECT size for preschoolers! It's small enough that our almost 4 year old can wear it comfortably (and it doesn't look odd) but it's big enough that she can actually put things in it. I'd say this size would be perfect for pre-k up to 1st or 2nd grade. Maybe longer. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Rated 5 out of 5 by AmyAH Great product!
I bought this bag for my son when he started 1st grade. He is now a junior in college and STILL uses this bag! He outgrew it for school work around 6th grade, but uses it still when traveling. Some where along the line a zipper was replaced. But overall a great value and great product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by kb11 best backpacks for young kids
All 3 of my kids started with the Junior backpack and my 1st grader still carries it every day. The 2 older kids carried it through 3rd grade and never had any issues fitting their folders in it. Now they have the larger size.
I bought my oldest daughter one her 1st year of preschool and she still uses it whenever we travel. After 6 years of school-day carrying and 4 additional years of travel/sleepover use, it still looks new. No fraying at all.
I have never purchased any other backpacks and chuckle at the people who complain about having to buy a new pack for their kids every year or even mid-year because one wears out. I have yet to have one of the 5 I have purchased total wear out. Five backpacks throughout 20 years of schooling so far total is pretty good. The only reason I even had to replace the Junior was because it was outgrown.
