Rated 3 out of 5 by HeatherWP missing a water bottle side pocket
This is a very nicely constructed backpack but the lack of a waterbottle mesh side pocket is a let down. I didn't notice it at first or would have picked a different back pack.

Rated 5 out of 5 by MrsDawnP Solidly constructed fun designs!
Ordered two of these for my girls going into Kindergarten and 4th grade. The girls LOVED the designs - looked better in person than they did online! These are solidly built backpacks - not the cheap, flimsy ones you find at the discount stores. Very pleased with these backpacks!

Rated 4 out of 5 by peachmom One major flaw
My daughter really wanted this backpack for school since it wasn't for "little girls". The pack is plenty roomy (actually too large for her needs) and has a great organizer pocket inside. The zippers work smoothly and the straps are nicely padded. The one HUGE flaw with this pack is the lack of a water bottle compartment! Every pack should have this feature. Had I not already labeled the pack with her name I would likely send this back for this reason alone. However, I completely overlooked it until the first morning of school when I went to put her water bottle in....ugh! I noticed the "super deluxe" pack does have this feature, but is also larger which would be too cumbersome for a 3rd grader to lug around. Next time I'll look more closely.

Love the deluxe backpack (three of my kids have one) and the fact that they stand by their product and if something happens to it, you can send it in for free and have it replaced.
I bought our most recent one on Monday night and had it by Wednesday afternoon (I live in NH).

Rated 4 out of 5 by iiLLBeanii Nice backpack with some issues
Overall this backpack is great for kids in middle school and 4th and 5th grade students. The pros are its nice and comfortable and also has a lot of room for books, binders etc. I really like the audio port so I can listen to music on the go with my iPod. The only con I have about this is that the straps are very close together and can get on your neck if your wearing a tank top so beware. Also the padded back and shoulder part is ok doesn't do much effort but it helps minimize the weight a little bit. Overall this backpack is great and I definitely recommend buying this for your son or daughter :)

Rated 4 out of 5 by A312 Nice durable pack, not the best design for me.
I have had this backpack for a few years. I used it for school everyday. It is still in great shape other than some dirt and pen marks (the fabric hides them well). The durability is the best feature of this pack in my opinion. This pack can hold a lot! The shoulder straps are comfortable (as long as you don't have just a tank top on). The waist strap doesn't seem to do much, because it is not padded. I am so glad that the loop was added to the top of the pack to hang easily in a locker. The organization panel is useful and the reflective material is helpful. The reason I am no longer using it is I wanted to switch to a messenger bag. I got the LLBean Classic Campus messenger bag.
Overall the pack is well built and good for middle school students. The design lacks a laptop sleeve. Before purchasing this pack you should know that it is more square than most packs. This is a great high capacity backpack, yet it is sometimes tricky to shove into my locker even when half full. I give it 4 stars, because its design doesn't work too well for me, but it is a great pack.

Rated 3 out of 5 by OHmommy Meh, not impressed
The pros: it is roomy and appears very durable. However, two big cons: (1) No exterior water bottle pocket. I really wish I had noticed that before ordering. This is the "deluxe" version, it should have a water bottle pocket! Water bottles inside the bag with papers and such are a disaster waiting to happen. (2) The straps are WAY TOO CLOSE together at the top. They rub my kids' necks and they both complain about it daily. Definitely wish I hadn't purchased.

Rated 3 out of 5 by 4mommy2 Quality has changed
This is my third time purchasing an ll bean backpack. This one is an upgrade for my son who now needs a slightly larger bag. I didn't hesitate to buy this one again as our last two are very high quality. The moment I pulled this out of the bag, I got an "eh" feeling. The fabric felt thinner and cheaper. I compared the other two bought last year and 2 years ago and the new one definitely has cheaper fabric than the older ones. In fact, when I put my hand on the inside of the bag and looked at it, I could easily see the outline of my hand through the fabric. I can't do that with the older ones. If ll bean's production cost increased, then they should have raised the price rather than used cheaper fabrics. My son likes orange so I bought the camp/orange bag. Next time I'm in the market for a backpack, I will compare brands and not automatically purchase one from ll bean.....

Rated 5 out of 5 by NakitaB Excellent Bag
My daughter who is 9 yrs old loves this bag. I bought it for school and is holds all of her books and is very comfortable. The design of the bag is beautiful and it even has her name in it. I would definitely be purchasing her bags from here in the future.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Wolffe Good Pack
This pack has been EVERYWHERE with me since I got it! It's very durable and roomy. My only issues are that the stabilizer (belly) strap just doesn't fit quite right- it rides up too high, I'm not too big, but a longer strap for those of us with a bit of a belly would be nice, as well.My only other issue is the lack of an outside water bottle pocket. These should be STANDARD on ALL L.L.Bean packs! From now on I will only purchase packs with the water bottle pocket.
