My child keeps being asked "Did you get a new backpack for school this year?" and I hope she doesn't catch on that some kids get a new one every year. Hers is on it's 4th year of school plus countless overnight trips and looks new! It's the light pink color which I had expected to show a ton of dirt but it hasn't. I love being able to put her initials on it to make it stand out, without having her name on display. The junior size fits a regular-sized folder/notebook (important for younger grades) plus lunchbox and water bottle and in fact we can pack a weekend's worth of child's clothes in it for trips. Along those lines, it's a little big for a preschooler so you might keep that in mind for a smaller child. Seems best to me for ages 4 through 7 or so.

My son (now 8) has been using this backpack everyday since he started his pre-school which is 5 yeas ago. Amazingly, it's still in great shape! No tear, no lip, and no damage at all! We are planning to get a new one for my son, since it's getting a little too small for 3rd grader. That is the only reason, otherwise he will still use it. LL Bean makes really excellent products!

This will be our second backpack. The first one got a lot of use over the last two years and will now be her "camping pack"...No tears, breaks, rips over two years of everyday use. We purchased a printed one for the upcoming school year with a matching lunch pack. Both seem to be the same great quality. We purchased both at the Burlington MA store and requested that they both be monogrammed. We purchased in store on Friday and on Tuesday morning both were delivered. Amazing turnaround!!!

by KTBAD As expected!
I always know LL Bean backpacks will do their job. This lasted my rough boy all through kindergarten and he's about to start 1st grade, and we know how young boys treat their stuff!! My oldest has gone through a few of his own, and I am finally writing a review to attest to these backpacks strength and endurance.
We ordered the royal blue with a monogrammed initial. It is exactly as pictured. It held everything he needed to bring to and from school, including dry clothes "just in case" and an LL Bean lunchbox.
I've been a happy customer for the past decade!

Rated 4 out of 5 by galaxygirl no side pockets
seems fine, well made, nice embroidery?my daughter's only disappointment was that there are NO side pockets to hold a water bottle. We also bought the Camelback bottles from LLBean so hopefully they don't leak and she can just put it inside her backpack.

Rated 5 out of 5 by mtbdog Great pack for little ones!
This is a perfect backpack for my pre-schooler! I was looking for a small, quality backpack for my 4 year old who is petite and this fits her perfectly. Love the flower design (and so does she!) and the reflective piping. This is big enough for preschool and kindergarten and also for hiking or sleepovers. We'll be packing it with art supplies for a long road trip.
The only improvement this pack could use is side pockets for water bottles - otherwise, it's a perfect bag I think we'll be using for years.

I'm not sure how some parents can say their kids' backpacks have lasted years as although our daughter's backpack stood the test of time for the entire school year while her peers' went through two, three and even four backpacks, we will be purchasing another new one for this upcoming year. I will buy this one again, however it didn't last to the point where we can use it a second year since the corners have worn just slightly through and it's looking somewhat ratty, but that's to be expected when kids throw them on the bus floor and the school playground I guess. Still happy with the product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Mailis Excellent first backpack
I bought this backpack last year for my daughter and it still looks new! It was the perfect size for my (tall) 4 year old preschooler.
She could use it for kindergarten this year but with 6-8 months of winter she needs more room for snow pants, mitts, toques in addition to school books etc.
It will still be a great backpack for daytrips.

Rated 4 out of 5 by 1rarereviewer Nice backpack, lousy embroidery
We just received this backpack in the mail for our kindergartener. The backpack seem very well made and sturdy. Our son was super excited and it fit him perfectly. I am very disappointed however that the embroidery is off-center. Noticeably! We only used one letter and it still isn't centered. Not enough time before the school year to return it but very disappointed and would skip adding the personalization next time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by mrstn Hands down, best backpack
I bought each of my older daughters (now ages 15 and 12) this backpack when they went to preschool at age 3. They each used their pack until needing to upgrade due only to size. They still have their packs and use them on occasion for camping, etc. These have withstood the test of time, use/abuse over the years. They wash well and you would never guess by looking at them how old they are! I considered the original pack, but decided to go for a 3rd Jr. pack for my youngest daughter in the adorable spring fling print and expect it will last equally well. I love the size for these younger years of school, allowing plenty of room for their essentials (lunch, folder, water bottle, show and tell) while not being so huge they can be over-weighted with too much stuff! (Bums me out to see so many kiddos weighed down by too large/heavy packs!)
