My child keeps being asked "Did you get a new backpack for school this year?" and I hope she doesn't catch on that some kids get a new one every year. Hers is on it's 4th year of school plus countless overnight trips and looks new! It's the light pink color which I had expected to show a ton of dirt but it hasn't. I love being able to put her initials on it to make it stand out, without having her name on display. The junior size fits a regular-sized folder/notebook (important for younger grades) plus lunchbox and water bottle and in fact we can pack a weekend's worth of child's clothes in it for trips. Along those lines, it's a little big for a preschooler so you might keep that in mind for a smaller child. Seems best to me for ages 4 through 7 or so.

Rated 5 out of 5 by canoecamp05 Versatile, rugged, & timeless: perfect first pack
We purchased this pack for my son at age two; three years later, it looks like new, despite being in daily use as a preschool pack, an impromptu diaper bag for his baby brother, a catch-all for snacks and water bottles when we're headed to the park or short hike, his car entertainment bag for books and toys he's bringing on a trip, and more. The size is perfect not just for a small child, but also for a parent who could use a smaller-sized backpack for short outings.
My sole suggestion--I hope someone from customer service will pass this along!--is to offer the bag in green and/or orange. These gender-neutral, classic colors would sell for sure.
Thanks for making this ideal smaller-sized pack for young Beans and those who love them.

The Junior backpack that I ordered for my granddaughter was fine and would rate 5 stars. However, while the stitching on her monogram was fine, the monogram itself is not centered and is about an inch too far to one side. When I look at it, it really bothers me that it is noticeably off-center, so I give the monogramming 2 stars. I won't send it back because it is an aesthetic issue and would be wasteful to do so. To those who perform this service, please measure accurately.

I purchased this backpack for one of my sons entering kindergarten, back in 2005. He is now 14 and although he doesn't use this same book bag for school, he still uses it occasionally for campouts and sleepovers. It's now 2014 and I'm getting another son ready for kindergarten. I pulled out this backpack and it still looks great, no damage anywhere. I'll be sending my younger son to kindergarten with it.

I got both of my kids one of these backpacks when they went to preschool. One is on his way to 3rd grade this year and the other is on her way to first. Their is not a thing wrong with either backpack at all!!! Cleaning them has been super easy and my kids still love them! I will be getting my son a new one next year only because he will need a bigger bag. :) I love not having to buy them new backpacks every year and I shamelessly tell everyone who is searching for backpacks every year that they should just get one from here and be done with it! Best money I have ever spent!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Southernmomof3 Long lasting backpack
My daughter got the print backpack in headstart (pre...preschool) she used it in headstart, preschool, kindergarten and 1st grade. The size is perfect..she is now 6 1/2 and still loves it. The material is great if something gets on it we have been able to get it off with a wet rag. Come 2nd grade we will have to buy the bigger version of this backpack strictly due to more books they carry and this is a smaller bag. We did have a zipper come out in kindergarten but you can't beat that. The price isn't bad and they do last a long time. Many parents I know I have to buy a new backpack every year and somethings even twice in one year due to zipper failure and the material of the backpacks just not holding up. So for the $24 we spent on this bag and it lasted 4 years that is like spending $6/year on a backpack....not bad. The material on the print bag still looks brand new hasn't faded at all. Hope this helps. Mother of 3...A boy and 2 girls who all have these backpacks ;-) great buy!

This backpack would be perfect for a kindergartner - good size, great color, good quality material, except zippers break way too easily. My son loved his red backpack so much, that I had to buy him same one after the zippers broke. Unfortunately, zippers on the second one didn't last either :(

Rated 5 out of 5 by BuyOnlyQuality These backpacks are made of iron!
I've stopped buying backpacks anywhere else, as these are unbelievable! My daughter had the same one for 6 years, and I got her a new one because she outgrew it, but, other than the fact that it was really dirty (after being dragged on the floor all the time) it was in perfect condition! Other backpacks rip, and the zippers break after just a couple of months, but these just last and last. Worth every penny!

This bag is perfect for younger children. It held up so well and I think i only had to wash it a few times the whole school year. Excellent choice if you chose to purchase this bookbag.

Rated 4 out of 5 by cuteboymom Good for very young children
As a preschool teacher I knew what I was ordering in terms of size. My two, soon to be three, year old daughter wanted to be just like her brother and carry her own backpack to school. She is small for her age so this was really the only option. That being said, it will probably need to be upgraded to a larger size by winter time. While this is built for a small child to wear safely it unfortunately is not capable of holding everything they need. My students only come 2.5 hours a day but still need space for their snack bag and change of clothes each day. In the winter they also need snow pants and shoes. As someone who is trying to instill independence in children this size can make it very difficult as they cannot fit everything in it without help. If you are thinking of it for a preschooler I would recommend the original or original plus size.
