Rated 5 out of 5 by texasally Backpack has lasted for 17 years
I bought my 28 year old daughter a deluxe backpack in 1996 when she was 10 years old. That backpack carried her through two years of grade school, junior high, high school AND college. Do yourself a favor and buy one backpack that will last for years instead of buying a lower quality pack and replacing it every year. I ordered myself the same backpack that I have been carrying for almost ten years.

I just watched my 22-year old daughter leave the house with this backpack, given to her in 4th grade, and I had to write to say this is an unbelievably strong, well-made and excellent item. It has gone with her through elementary, middle and high school, 4 years of college and now grad school, showing virtually no sign of wear. And I think it's still sold at close to the same price! Recommend without reservation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by LMHowell VERY longlasting bookbag!
I purchased this bookbag for my son who was in fifth grade at the time. He is now going to be a senior in high school and he uses this bag to this day. It has been very adequate size wise for him, although sometimes on rare occassions he needed a bit more space. It has held up amazingly well! All of the stitching, belts, zippers and straps are in impeccable shape. The only thing that I can find wrong with it now is that at some point he lost one part of the adjustable buckle on the waist strap. There is NO wear on the material of the bag itself, but the reflective strip on the front pocket is scuffed up a bit. He did tell me that he had always wished that there was a pocket for a water bottle, but he has been very satisfied, and I think it is a fantastic bag!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Manda41 Amazing product, awesome customer service!
We only get LL Bean backpacks for our boys. They last for years so the value is outstanding.
This year, we decided to get the next size up for our 8yo. After having problems with an order (my fault) Kara at customer service helped fix it not once but twice. Backpack arrived today, 5 days early, and we exactly what we wanted.
Thank you, Kara and LL Bean!

Rated 5 out of 5 by phatvenus Deluxe Backback
My backpack is the gorgeous eggplant color, that you cannot get anymore. I bought it in probably close to 1995, and it is still going strong!! Back then I personalized it with patches and now it has a very nostalgic feel and has a beautiful vintage look. The crazy thing is that it's in GREAT shape. Looks comfortably worn and very classic...maybe i'll pass it along instead of buying a new one for my middle schooler...that is, if i'm cool enough, lol.

Rated 5 out of 5 by collegekid22 Incredible Quality, Definitely Buy!
This has truly been the best backpack I've ever had. I bought it my junior year of high school, and 6 years later as I head to grad school, I'm finally buying another one! It has held up incredibly well; some of the waterproofing started to come off, and I walk through rain often, so I need to replace mine. It withstands rain very well, and has three main pockets, which provides lots of space for a laptop, textbooks, notebooks, water bottle, lunch, calculator, and all the other items you could ever want to stuff in a backpack! Definitely a great buy, and at this price I don't think I'll ever buy a backpack from another company again. Thanks LLBean!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Megamomof4 Unbelievable Quality
We have been buying LL Bean backpacks, all different sizes/styles, for 20 years, and we still have the first ones purchased. There is no other backpack on the market that comes anywhere near the quality, ease of care, and price of LL Bean's bags!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Amanda83 Best choice ever
My son has had this bag since G1 and hes going into G4.He went through 2 bags in kindergarten ...those 20$ superhero bags.I didnt make the same mistake with my daughter , shes going into 2 with the same bag from K . These bags have survived being dragged across the gym floor ,shoved in lockers, thrown on the floor, day camp in the summer , a pillow/bench in the school yard, thrown in the car ...etc etc - when they get gross - a quick wash in the machine ... brand new. I recommend these bags 100x over . You cant go wrong , and the price for the quality - its a joke , youll spend 10x as much buying the cheap dept store bags.

Rated 5 out of 5 by nonickname4444444 great bag
5 years ago I bought an original bag for my daughter entering kindergarten, I figured I'd skip the junior size. She used it for K-4 and at the end of 4th she started saying it was too small and would have trouble zippering it so I bought her the deluxe size and it's huge! I didn't think it would really be that much bigger than the original but it really is. I had been looking for just a "big" bag for myself without a lot of annoying technical details and overly specific pockets so I bought myself one too. I have to say I love it, and really enjoy using it. The compartments are generous and the zippers are super smooth. The only thing I wish it had was a top/higher stash pocket just for my phone and sunglasses. I use the frontmost pocket for those but it's in a vulnerable area so I have to be careful. I took it with me on a getaway weekend and i managed to get 4 shorts/shirt outfits in the big pocket while keeping all my junk in the other pockets. My daughter says she likes the smaller main compartment for folders and notebooks and then the bulky stuff and her lunchbox go in the biggest compartment and nothing gets lost in the shuffle.

Rated 5 out of 5 by TeacherMom1626 Third kid and third LLBean Backpack
I have 3 children - the oldest is 16 and heading into 11th grade. She has the deluxe backpack. It isn't the original one - that one had the zipper break after FIVE hard years of overstuffing for school and scouts. This was replaced by LLBean and we are still going strong after 4 more years - she is planning to take it to college. Kid #2 hasn't been as rough on his and we are 7 years in (although the matching lunchbox hasn't made it). As kid #3 heads to school, the no-brainer thing to do is to log in to LLBean and pick out her backpack - and follow through with a family tradition.
