Rated 5 out of 5áby GeorgiaGirl2 Best Backpack Ever
Both my daughters used these backpacks all through high school. My youngest just graduated and hers is still in great shape. I've ordered her a Quad pack for college but she could have used this one. I don't understand the fixation on a water bottle pocket. It's just not a big deal.

We still have my older son't first LL Bean book bag that he started kindergarten with in 1985. And it's still in great condition after going through elementary school with him and then 5 more years with his baby brother. Now we use it, still. He still has the larger model that he started high school with, used thru college, and now takes to work with him. It's 20+ years old. We've bought them for the grands recently and hope they last that long, too.

For five years we've purchased a LL Bean book bag for school. This year my daughter asked for "another kind" of book bag because the zipper kept catching.

Purchased for my boys three years ago, they are now going into 5th and 3rd grades, and they are still going strong. We haven't had any issues w/zippers, holes, or the material wearing out at all. Honestly, they look pretty new for having been used for three full school years.
Two issues I have - 1) the lack of water bottle holder, of course, and 2) the bottom should be reinforced to better support the weight of heavy books. The fabric has held up fine so far, but if the bottom was padded and reinforced it would take some of the weight off the kids' shoulders.
The overall quality is great, and I would recommend getting them.

This backpack did hold up all year but was impossible to clean, after many attempts I am giving up and will look for another backpack to purchase for the upcoming 2016/2017 school year.

It's fine, but I just didn't happen to notice the "no water bottle compartment" issue. Deal breaker for my kids.

Rated 2 out of 5áby mrsmtp Not as sturdy as I thought
After hearing so many reviews on how well these bags hold up, I decided to buy one for my third grader. We purchased the bag, along with the matching lunch bag and I have to say, I am not impressed. While the larger pockets held up pretty well, the front pocket is completely worn out to the point where there are holes in in the fabric and the lining in the lunch box is torn. I have to be honest, I am incredibly surprised by the lack of durability/quality of my purchase. This bag did not hold up any better than the cheaper versions that I can buy for half the price elsewhere. In fact, we have an old, cheap princess backpack that held up better than this one. Extremely disappointed.

Excellent backpack for the cost. If you like a simple design with minimal pockets, sleeves, etc., this is a good choice. Fits my laptop, notebook, lunch, and even a small umbrella. I don't like an awkward water bottle side compartment, so I'm glad this doesn't have one. My only recommendation would be to add more color options...please bring back the classic dark green color!

Rated 3 out of 5áby customerINredmond Overall, pretty good
First the Good: the bag is a really good size and easy to get things in and out of. Both of my children (one 5th grader and one 7th grader) really like the usability and capacity of them.
Things I would add or change: a mesh pocket on the sides for quickly stowing a water bottle or a wet umbrella would be great. My daughter is often telling me she wishes she could carry her water there for easier access. Also, she and my son both would rather have a chest strap then the waist strap currently on the bag.
And now the Not so Good: I purchased both bags at the beginning of the 2014-2015 school year. My son's lost a buckle, which isn't a big deal. But on my daughter's (the 5th grader), a zipper broke. LLBean was great about replacing the bag, which we received sometime early in the 2015-2016 school year. Now, at the end of the year, the loop at the top of the bag has torn and there is a fairly large hole there. I am sure this bag would not make it through another year. My son's is still ok, though, so I guess it's just unlucky that we have had two malfunctions with my daughter's.
