Rated 1 out of 5 by Beedapox Nice Design But Poor Longevity
While I really like the design of these shorts, I am finding that they simply do not wear well and are not worth the purchase price. Every single pair that I own have torn on the corner of the left rear pocket. The newest pair is only a couple of months old and are now relegated to "yard work" because of the holes that have formed. Given the price of these shorts, one would expect them to last a lot longer and wear much better than that. These observations seem to be limited to the Allagash shorts since other items I have purchased have not had the same issues.

Rated 3 out of 5 by TonyDC Weak Stitching, Tight Zipper Pockets
This is the second summer that I've worn these shorts. I have 2 pair, and both are comfy and fit well. The zipper pockets are handy to have, but the opening is a bit snug for my large hands. Like other reviewers, I've had problems with the button on the waist. They didn't break, but the stitching frazzled and the buttons fell off. Also, on one pair, the stitching on the fly has come loose. The fabric seems quite sturdy and should last for years, but the stitching will probably wear out long before the fabric does.

Too bad I didn't zoom in on the photo and notice the bright orange stitching around the fly and waist button hole. It looks as if I stained my shorts with ketchup or some other tomato product.
On closer inspection I have discovered that all of these cargo shorts have the same stitching regardless of colour or pattern.
Unfortunately I ordered the light khaki making the bright orange
all the more obvious. Whose bright idea was the orange stitching?

Snapped right in half, pretty chinzy in my opinion.

hi there - i love your comfort waist shorts...and the cargo shorts esepcially. the truest cargo short you have is the Allagash one, but you do not have it in the "comfort waist". it would be great if you offered it. i have ordered the others and happy with them but they are not a true cargo short like Allagash. thanks, Matt

Rated 5 out of 5 by TrombonePlayer Great shorts sizing right on
Just received these shorts, and the sizing was perfect. I am a 34 and the size 34 fits great. They are a nice heavy weight fabric, and the pockets have buttons all around.
There seems to be no problem with these buttons as mentioned previously. They even added an extra button just in case. The little zippered pockets are a nice added touch, but they do make the shorts a little thicker. The shorts may not be the best for the hottest weather, but these shorts are excellent just the same.
The camo is a great pattern, a nice digital style camoflague. Great job L.L. Bean!

Rated 3 out of 5 by HuskerDriller Plastic front button
I've purchased two pairs of these shorts. Overall they're very comfortable to wear and well provisioned with pockets. However, both pair have lost their front buttons due to breakage of what seems to be a relatively weak point in their center between the sewing holes. It's actually disappointing these types of shorts have gone away from metal buttons.
So save the good metal buttons off your old favorites because you'll need them to replace theses cheap plastic ones.
Just glad I wasn't hiking at the time.

Sorry to contradict others- just adding my experience. They are heavy weight and I like them very much.
SIZE- I am a 34 waist, but I ordered 36 due to various comments here. Way too big. Sent back for a 35, still too big. Sent back again and ordered what I should have in the first place, a 34. Same size I would try on at any other larger retailer. PERFECT. Regretting all that extra $ I spent on shipping.
BUTTONS- no breakage yet. Will ammend if/when it happens. I personally unbutton one back and one leg pocket and leave it that way, no matter what cargo pants I wear. Easy in and out, & the flaps are heavy enough that they stay down even when unbuttoned. I am able to unbutton them while wearing, though the heavy fabric is stiff and new and does resist. I expect as they wear in the unbuttoning wil get easier.

Rated 5 out of 5 by bob111 Allagash Cargo Shorts, Dark Khaki, Like a lot
The left and right sides each have one zippered pocket (Yah), easy to grasp pull (Yah) and one unzippered pocket (also desirable). I find these four are the pockets I use. I am thrilled to have zippers on both sides (no more losing items when I sit), and the pockets are a good size and depth.
The front cargo button pockets are less/rarely used, as are the rear pockets. These four pockets have two buttons each, and are harder to use.I'd pay extra for a zipper below the flap instead of buttons.
The material is Very soft and comfortable. Although heaver weight than other shorts you can buy, I'm finding I prefer these to the other ll bean shorts I've bought over the years, since the fabric is so nice.
Used the same waist size as for the various pants I've bought over they years, and that works fine.
I liked the first pair so much, I bought a second, and would look for a long pants variant some time in the fall.

Rated 5 out of 5 by BJS22 Pockets for everythhing you need to carry
First I'd like to say I can't stand cargo pants or shorts with Velcro, they never work right and always get lint and other dirt trapped in in. These are perfect with button down pockets that really work. I have pockets for cell phone wallet, and about 1/2 dozen other items I use when camping. I've washed and worn about 6 times already and they are still in fantastic shape. Would I recommend, I would recommend to anyone who want a perfect pair of cargo shorts, well worth the price.
