Rated 5 out of 5 by mainerinexhile Nicely tailored
This coat is beautiful. I got it for my mom as one of her Christmas gifts. The green color is very deep. It is well made and fit her so well. It is warm and dressy, just what she was hoping for. We exchanged for one size up as it is nicely tailored and true to size so to fit a blazer and sweater underneath made it tight. The next larger size was perfect for how she would wear the coat. Exchange was fast and simple.

Rated 3 out of 5 by 8slr8 warm, but makes you look like a sack of potatoes
I bought one of these coats two years ago on sale and, though I look like a frumpy sack of potatoes in it, I still wear it all the time because it's so very nice and warm. Having looked at other, more flattering coats to replace it during those two years, I just can't find a wool coat to compete with it. So last week I bought a second one, in the same size but this time in the petite, and find I look marginally less lumpy. And the sleeves fit better. The problem really is with the placement -- or maybe style -- of the pockets. Anyone in this coat is going to look like she's in her second trimester. Sad fact. (Also, the collar on the older coat is looking pretty worn; I expect this will happen with the new one, too -- which is why I bought it, too, on sale.)
But, for me, the bottom line is that while it's frumpy the coat is otherwise ok, and it can stand up to some pretty freezing CO winds. I tend to wear it -- fyi -- when it's between 30 and 50 degrees out; after that, it's time for the big puffer.

Rated 3 out of 5 by WendySue sleeves too long on petite
I purchased a medium "petite" and the sleeves were still too long. I would have put up with the fact that the coat is shapeless/boxy but the longer sleeves on a petite coat was a deal breaker.

Rated 5 out of 5 by massachusettsgal stylish and warm
I purchased 2 sizes, knowing I would send one back. I found the smaller size 6 (my regular size) was best, so the reviews saying it ran small did not hold true for me. I got the cayenne color, and it is beautiful- very soft, warm, and high quality.
The color is not too bright-
My only suggestion is to nip the waist in a bit. The fit is a little boxy. I would rather have it fitted for a more modern silhouette.
Great customer service as always.

Rated 4 out of 5 by smi4coS Good Quality!
I ordred this coat a few years ago in my regular size and it was too fitted. I returned it and could not get the color I wanted....so I've waited. Now checking this coat's reviews again, I think by the reviews that this coat is not as fitted as it used to be, but that the "vintage red" is not really a "VINTAGE RED". Remember "Ladies", that this coat is for women, not for slimmer junior sizes. We ladies over 65 still love classic styles that always are in fashion and red is great for most of us.

I was continuously dissatisfied with multi-layer coats from other companies for winter. They all stopped at my hips or waist, and I found myself with bare back on occasion after carrying my son or items. This length is superb, the coat is amazingly warm without feeling three times my size. I am not a small woman, so I didn't really like feeling akin to a blimp. I can slide into a car, bend over, and I am still warm! It is a very well made coat, and I feel well taken care of and beautiful. I love the green color, and I'm normally a size L/14 and ordered 16 for comfort. Fits wonderfully. Thank you LL Bean!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Katielyn Superb Quality in material and construction
This coat is exceptional and a great value. I have not seen such a superb garment in a very long time. This coat has it all - attractive, soft, comfortable and extremely warm. The construction is pure quality and the fit pure comfort. This is old fashioned quality that was a standard 50 years ago and has all but disappeared from today's market. I never expected to find such a well made garment again. Bravo L.L. Bean!

Rated 5 out of 5 by TeacherJean Best coat ever!
I've been shopping for a classic WARM wool coat for over two years! This one has great lines and the thinsulate makes it very warm and is not bulky at all. We've had a very cold winter here I Nebraska and I've been toasty warm! I consider this an investment piece and plan to wear it for the next 10 years. The fabric is quality!
The only issue I had was that it runs SMALL! Be sure to order a size up!

Rated 5 out of 5 by gifttogab excellent, high quality, wears well
I am so pleased with my coat. I volunteered this Christmas season to ring a Salvation Army bell outside of a store for a total of 10 hrs. (5 - 2hr shifts) The weather in the midwest has been very cold this year, but this coat kept the wind out and me warm inspite of the snow and blowing conditions. It does not pick up dog hair when our yellow lab rubs up against me with it on. Mine has been dry cleaned and has maintained its original color (vintage red). The lining has not bled onto clothes that I am wearing underneath the coat. I would give it an A+ and am considering getting it in another color as well.

I had wanted to buy this coat since last year, but was hesitant because of the price. This year, I decided to buy it in vintage red.
I chose a 6 misses' regular. I am only 5'3" & ~125, but I had purchased the pea coat a few years ago in petite and it ended up being too tight in the shoulders. I probably could have gotten away with the 4 regular but with a 6 I have plenty of room to move and layer under it and purchasing it a tad bigger ensures that it doesn't pucker at the pockets like I had read on other reviews.
