This jacket did not live up to my previous experiences with LL Bean fleece jackets. I usually wear a large but had to exchange it for an Xlarge as it was too narrow across shoulders and tight in the arms over a winter shirt. The fabric did not in anyway resemble warm, fluffy fleece but was more of a flat velour. The jacket was not warm enough to wear on a 40 to 50 degree day, and for me, it didn't cut the feel of the wind. In the past, I have worn fleece jackets on days in the low 30 degree range. I wanted to like this jacket because it is a great color, but I don't need another jacket to wear on "warmer" days. I am returning this jacket and will have to research another jacket to purchase.

I bought this jacket to wear during our week at Disney World during Christmas break, it was perfect for evenings when it cooled down. I loved that it was not bulky. I am 5' 1" @145lbs and bought a small. Perfect fit!

This is my second Wind Challenger Fleece Jacket. It is a fantastic product and is my go to jacket on the edges of the cold weather season here in Boston. It even gets used on very windy cool days sailing on the ocean in the summer and fall. My rating of this jacket is based on my prior experience with this product, as the newly purchased jacket has not been worn.
I decided to replace my jacket as the old one was looking tired, and also it is too large. I was aware that L.L. Bean sizing is now smaller, and it worked out that the same size in the current version is a good fit, while my old one is about 4 inches too big around the hips, the sleeves are too long, and it is generally too large overall.
It took me a while to decide to return this jacket based on the color. It looks like it's burgundy in the picture on the website, but in reality it is a dark pink, close to the color of raspberries. It's just not a very grown up color. I would wear a sweater or a shirt in this shade, but I prefer a more neutral color in a jacket that I wear every day. I'd also like to be able to match a scarf to this, and the dark pink would pose a challenge. I'm exchanging this for a black one.
I should mention that this particular jacket has puckered stitching adjacent to the front zipper which is another reason for the return. But I would be exchanging it for black even if this was not an issue.

I was intrigued by the description of both fleece and a "windproof" internal lining, so I decided to try it, even though, to me, it's a bit on the pricey side, but I was definitely not disappointed! The jacket is so light-weight, and yet it really does prevent those sharp, chilly winds from getting to your body. It is semi-fitted just right; it fits very well, doesn't cling, doesn't ride up, is soft & comfortable, does what it says it will do, and looks great; the blue is my favorite color, a rich, deep blue. My only "complaint", if you will, is that I agree with another reviewer who stated their dislike of the white mesh pocket linings; I agree; I feel that they should be the blue microfleece to match the jacket.. Other than that, LOVE it!!!!

Fits well and performs as expected although I have only worn it a few times so far. I have but two criticisms. The fleece clings to the material of the garment worn beneath it unless that piece of clothing is made of a smooth material. Makes it difficult to put on and remove. My biggest disappointment though is the cuffs. They are finished with a contrasting Lycra elastane band which looks like it was sewn on in a junior high school sewing class. Poor quality; not what I have come to expect based on other purchases I have made at L.L. Bean.

Rated 4 out of 5 by ScarlettTN Good quality but pricy
I purchased this jacket at original price $99. When I received it the price dropped to $74.99 at my size. It's a big drop and it makes me mad when LLBean does this.... Jacket itself is nice and will recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by carajean74 This is the best jacket I've ever owned!
I had zero expectation that this coat would keep me warm and dry, but I explained to a customer service rep that I really have no idea what I'm doing buying outdoor clothing and would like to attempt to hike and this is what she recommended. I was even less confident when it arrived and it was half the thickness of my fleece. But with Bean's 100% satisfaction guarantee, I gave this jacket a try. It was 30 degrees, damp and windy yesterday and I took the dog for a walk wearing only a tshirt underneath and my LL Bean hat and gloves. I couldn't believe it? I was the exact right temperature the entire walk and I am a complete wimp about weather. Not too hot, not cold at all. I'm so glad I bought this coat! It's way less bulky than my beloved wool pea coat and I could really move around in it. I love this jacket!

Rated 5 out of 5 by LaSnoKat Wind-proof and WARM; runs small
I LOVE this jacket, so much so that this is my second jacket in the "wind challenger" fleece. My first one is the hooded version, which is great to wear when it might rain. I just purchased the one without the hood. The wind challenger material is fantastic to wear while bike riding, as it really does keep out the wind, which makes it comfortable for me to go riding when the temperature is five degrees lower than I used to be able to ride in. It doesn't weigh much, so it is very comfortable to wear. This jacket can get hot, though, as being wind-proof, it isn't very breathable. But that is OK, as I wear a regular Polarted 200 jacket when the weather is too warm for this one. Sizing on the wind challenger runs small. I usually wear "small" in LL Bean tops and jackets, but need a "medium" in this jacket [and its hooded version], which fits me fine [not too loose at all].

I just got this a few days ago. The fabric is has a comfortable feel; it is cozy without being puffy, it has body without being too stiff.
It is wind resistant as advertised. We've had brutal winds, and this jacket has done well. I've been able to layer this medium size under my large size Stowaway jacket. Quite toasty. At the same time, I've been wearing it around the house comfortably during this latest round of winter chill.
The color is delicious. It is cheerfully bright without being garish. I will feel comfortable wearing this while birding.
Two small negatives. I (less than 5' tall), really would have like this in a petite size range. The sleeves are too long for me. I'm ok with the body being a bit longer, and with a sore shoulder, having the pockets a bit lower on the torso than they would have been with a petite size is actually an advantage, but I may have to shorten the sleeves. The elastic at the wrist keeps the sleeves from sliding down too far on their own, though, so I may just live with them as they are.
The second minor negative is that there is considerable friction between the jacket and my turtlenecks when getting the jacket on. It's a bit of a challenge with a sore shoulder. Getting the second arm into the sleeve takes a good bit of flapping. The inside feels lovely when it's on, though. Just saying...
