I bought this backpack 3 years ago as a dual schoolbag and day hiking pack. I absolutely love it. It is super comfortable even when carrying 3 textbooks or a day-hike's worth of gear. I love that the waist strap can be hidden for casual use. I know I will use this bag forever. It has been thrown around all over airports and accompanied me on a vacation to the Peruvian rainforest and there are still no signs of wear or tear. Since purchasing this backpack I have been coming back to llbean for all of my outdoor gear needs and more. I am never dissapointed. Thanks!

I bought this for my son who is in 6th grade. He loves the large size. It holds his trapper keeper and lunchbox with plenty of extra room for his snowpants and shoes. Its great if you are trying to carry alot of things.

We ordered 2 of these for our middle and high school age sons less than a year ago. First, we must say that we are LL Bean enthusiasts and have been for years. Rarely are we disappointed with the merchandise. These backpacks, however, were not a good purchase. While the features and shape are handy and attractive, the pencil pocket shredded in just a few times of use. The nylon is far too thin and flimsy. In addition, the straps of the packs are actually fraying and pulling away from the body of the pack. Unheard of in a Bean backpack. Our boys still have their pre-school packs (deluxe book pack) and they are in wonderful shape after 10+ years of use. Pencil pockets and straps all still intact and ready to use! Disappointed in this one, especially given the price. A good lesson to never order the first release of a new product. Wait to read the reviews. Back to the deluxe book pack!

This is a great backpack. Plenty of room and lots of compartments for organization. Extremely comfortable to wear.
The only thing I wish it had was stronger clips (lobster claw type) for carabiners or other such hooks and wish there were one or a few on the outside. I don't trust the plastic hooks and they aren't big enough for the thicker carabiners and all are on the inside, anyway. When you clip to the straps they fly around more with movement. Took to Ireland and Scotland and it worked great in the rain. Protected phone and camera, extra clothes.

I don't usually write reviews, and waited a year before doing this one to see how the backpack performed; it deserves rave reviews. In the year since I bought it, the backpack has endured two trips to Europe, two domestic trips, hiking, fossil hunting in quarries, and daily use to and from work laden with computer, books, Ipad and other paraphernalia. It still looks and functions like new - zippers work fine, no pulls or wear in fabric or stitching. The hip and chest straps are great and comfortable. If I had any complaints they would be that the pack is so large it's easy to overload yourself, and I don't like the key clasp (which I use daily) only because I prefer a lobster clasp. Both of those are personal items/preferences not worthy of a deduction. I highly recommend this pack and would purchase another if I needed it, but at this rate, it will be a long time before I do.

I have tried almost every backpack that LL Bean offers. This is the best one hands down. I took it to Ireland with me for a ten day trip. Walked all over Ireland and this backpack, hands down met all the requirements of a backpack. Pockets for 2 water bottles, scratchproof pocket for my sunglasses, and much more. Strap across the chest for security and this helps for ease of carrying. I was able to put an umbrella, hoodie and camera inside and still have room for snacks and souvenirs. I woulc but this again in a heartbeat, but I don't need to. After three years of use it does not show any signs of wear at all. You will not be disappointed with this backpack.

It is a nice size for a teenager to use for school. I would give it a 5-star but the top strap/ handle totally riipped from the stitching within 2 months of use! Of course, I had to return and got a replacement for my teenaged son.

I bought this in lilac a few years ago thinking I would just use it for graduate school because it has a laptop sleeve. I have found SO many more uses for it that my husband bought himself one last summer. Not only is it great for school use, but also travel. We used it for our trip to DisneyWorld last winter (we have four kids and this bag carried all of our daily excursion needs). My husband and I also used it for a carry on for our five year anniversary trip to Maine (yes, I had to stop and see Bean headquarters!). It's such a great bag and I'm the type of person that compares with all other brands. It's side pockets are deep and hold Bean canteens. There's a soft pocket for cell phones, Ipods and small cameras. The side straps adjust for expansion. There's a chest strap and waist strap that make it extremely comfortable to carry all day, even full. There's several pockets and compartments that you can stuff full. LLBean has definitely outdone themselves with this pack.

This is a great backpack except for the handle! I am a first year law student and purchased the pack in August for school. Within a week of use the handle ripped off. LL Bean replaced the pack right away without any problems. Unfortunately the handle ripped off the second pack too. I am keeping the pack because it is fantastic in all other ways. I especially like the padded back which protects me from getting jabbed from the huge law books I carry around. But hopefully LL Bean will redesign the handle so the pack will live up to their normal high quality standards.

I have purchased a backpack from LL Bean every year prior to the start of the school year for my son who is now 11 and in the 6th grade. ALL the back packs and lunch boxes have been WONDERFUL...very durable, well made, great quality and reasonably priced...up to this year's pick. My son would have no other back pack this year than this Quad pack, and though it is the most expensive one I have purchased for him yet, I did so. I have never been more disappointed in an LL Bean back pack as I have been this one. It is not as roomy as it looks, and by far the least durable. Just a few months into the school year this year , the backpack's handle ripped right out of the seam, and it does not appear to be put together as well as previous , much less expensive back packs. Maybe we got a dud, but I would think a bit before purchasing this particular backpack.
