Rated 4 out of 5 by CCarhart Comfortable, Spacious, Great Features
The "Quad Pack" is a great backpack for $80. I got this backpack when I was going into 6th grade and it lasted until end of the first quarter in high school ( I will explain later why it is not 5 stars). This backpack has some awesome features for middle schoolers and high schoolers for instance the ear buds out the back, plenty of storage, and a slick design compared to other backpacks. I loved this backpack and I used it for many things such as school, trips, vacation, airsoft. Now, will all good things there is a negative. This backpacks shoulder straps attached to the bookbag started to dis-attach from the bookbag from wear and tear and I had to send it in for a new one. Other then that this backpack is well worth the money.

Rated 4 out of 5 by HandyMom Good pack if you are tall
I purchase one of these packs for myself and used it for quite a while (a couple of years) on my daily commute, which involves a mile or so walk and then a train ride. However, I'm under 5'4" with a short torso, and the height of this pack was never really comfortable for me. Even when I had everything cinched up as much as possible it felt loose and floppy.
I recently got a smaller pack for myself and gave this one to my husband, who is well over 6' tall, and he adores it. It has plenty of room for a laptop, a bike helmet, a clean shirt, a water bottle, umbrella, lunch (a boxy soft-sided cooler), and a few pens and accessories, which is pretty much what he takes with him on his daily commute. The design incorporates a lot of thoughtful features without being overly complicated.
The pack has held up extremely well and basically looks new although I replaced all the zipper pulls as I did not like the originals. There is a small amount of visible wear on the waterproof coating inside the main compartment, which I plan to re-coat myself.

I had high hopes for this backpack.
My son previously had the deluxe and it lasted through 6th grade.
I just ordered this one because I thought it would last through high school but we can't even fit all of his notebooks inside (much less the textbooks).
It only has 1 big compartment and I was able to fit 3 of the 2-inch binders inside with absolutely NO space for anything else and he still has 2 more inch binders, 2 folders and his textbooks and there's no way to fit anything else.
Overall design and style is wonderful and we love the look and feel of this backpack but it is meant more for someone who doesn't carry a lot of books.
We are returning this one and getting either the Super Deluxe or the Turbo Transit. I'm also disappointed that I had a 20% coupon for this and free shipping but now I have to pay full price AND $6.50 for return shipping on this one.

I bought this backpack for myself a number of years ago, perhaps the first year it was offered. I used it as our "media bag" when traveling. When my son entered 3rd grade, I gave it to him as his "new" school pack and it was still in such good shape that he fell for it. He's going into 5th now and it's still in such good shape it's ridiculous. (Going on how many Maine winters, now??) I'd like to get another one for my younger son who's now entering 3rd, but his pack (apparently discontinued now, sadly) is still in such perfect shape that I can't justify it.
The quad pack is big enough for everything a grade-schooler needs, including snow gear, shoes, etc. It is marketed as a great college pack, and at this point I wouldn't be surprised if my firstborn takes it away with him. You can't do better than this backpack.

I bought this backpack for my son while he was still in HS. He just graduated college and the backpack looks brand new. He uses it hard and stuffs it to the gills. I'm going to order one for my younger son who is about to start college. Well worth the price. love Love LOVE it.

This is the 2nd Quad Backpack (the exact same one) I have purchase from LLBean. I purchase for my son starting college 2 years ago, and he loves it. It has room for his laptop, water bottle, books, pockets for his calculator, and the extra wide straps make it very comfortable for him to carry all day. The size is not too big and not too small. The reason for the 2nd purchase, on the last week of finals in May someone stole his backpack at the college cafe, and he called me really upset because it had his initials on it. He couldn't understand why someone would steal a backpack with someones else initials. He sent out a email and said, " I don't care who you are, take what is inside of it, I just want my backpack back." So he is heading off for his 3rd year and I got him another. It is a great product, he used it last summer for travel as well for the gym. Super sturdy. He said he wished I would of gotten him one sooner. I also got him the over night men's kit and another great product. I say a must for any college kid!!!

I have purchased L.L.Bean backpacks for many years and I think this is the first time I've had a problem with the quality. I should have reviewed the comments prior to purchase :(

This backpack has survived a lot of abuse, including being overstuffed with textbooks and being tossed carelessly around archaeological sites. I recommend it, because I haven't destroyed it yet.
