Rated 5 out of 5 by dhostetler Midland Walkie Talkie
My wife and I liked this product so much, this is the second pair of walkie talkies that we have purchased. They offer great range and reception.
We keep them in both of our cars, and use them when we go shopping at the malls. They allow us to split up and still stay in touch with one another.
We also use them around the house when one of us is going to be outside for an extended period of time, and we want to be able to communicate with one another.
I would highly recommend them.

Rated 4 out of 5 by mainer4evah Great but watch how you charge
These two way radios work as advertised. The line of sight distance on the package is almost impossible to achieve. Nevertheless, we used them over wooded landscapes and had good connectivity over about 0.5 miles. On ski slopes and open fields it could easily be twice that distance.
Read the instructions about charging and discharging the units. Failure to do that will shorten the battery life. If you leave them in the charger, they will have almost no battery life at all (less than 5 minutes).
Overall a great product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by doggiecareman You get what you pay for most of the time
I have been using this model radio for my pet boarding and doggie day care business for about 3 years now. I have anywhere from 6 to 8 radios in use at a time for a total of about 6 to 8 hours a day, 7 days a week. I have tried numerous other models and these are the ones that will hold up reasonable well comparatively. The alternative is using a business class radio at anywhere from literally 7 to 10 times the price (250.00 to 400.00 per radio) and you have to register and pay an annual FCC fee. Because of the LLBean unparallelled warranty, when they fail I just exchange them for new ones. They last for me on average about 8 to 14 months with the described usage amount. I know there are better radios out there but for the money and the LLBean warranty for me there is not any other practical choice.

Rated 1 out of 5 by KayakerParent Not waterproof in the least
I bought the radios for emergencies during kayaking. The first pair I returned to Midland after they failed in 2 wks due to exposure to incidental water, such as being grabbed by wet hands. I was able to prolong the life of the radios by literally shaking the water out of the radios.
Midland provided a new set. The new radios failed instantly and completely after accidental exposure to salt water although the exposure was very brief, not subjected to total immersion, and was not at any depth. (Radio was in vest pocket of life jacket when the kayak rolled over.) Thus, the radio failed totally during one of the emergencies it was purchased for.
Item is also unable to signal VHF help -- the standard help frequencies at sea

Rated 4 out of 5 by mrtallyman Midland GXT1000VP4 GMRS/FRS Radios
What I like about the Midland GXT1000VP4 radios: The range is good in open country; the recharge time is fairly quick; the readout is large and the important things are easy to read; the radios have a LOT of features.
What I like less about the Midland GXT1000VP4: The battery pack in one of the two radios loosened the second time I charged them and the radio would not send or receive (eventually figured out the problem and reseated the battery in the affected radio - it worked without further incident); the sound quality is less than outstanding.
