Everything the other reviewers have said is true. I'm glad I read reviews first because I'm a standard 6 and I sized up to an 8 and it has enough room. The sleeves are long, but not too long for me. She's right about the pockets. If you put gloves in the pockets, it does kind of bulge in the belly area. The pockets are a bit high up. It does feel like there should be another button or 2 in the front as it flares when you walk, but because it is more of a narrow fit coat, I think it would be hard to walk with additional buttons. I do like the slit in the back.
In a word, I'm keeping the coat. If I paid full price, I might return it, but I think I got a great coat for a good price. Black is boring and I like the evergreen color. I love the softness of the lambswool and the thinsulate keeps me warm without the coat being too heavy. There were some comments about a boxy fit. It is a bit narrow and boxy, but I don't expect coats to fit curvy, so I'm okay with it.

My experience is similar to several other reviewers. 1) The coat is too tight under arms. 2) The row of buttons end too high up. They should extend lower as wind whips right up the opening. 3) The hip pockets are placed too high, making it awkward to put hands into them. 4) The fit is boxy. I had hoped to use it as a dress coat, but instead will use it more casually. I like the feel and weight of the wool fabric, but the tight fit under the arms makes it uncomfortable and the short row of bottoms makes it ineffective in keeping out the cold.

Beautiful coat...nicely made and great fit. But after only 1 week of wear, the material started balling/pilling as cheap, low quality wool would do. One week! Ugh! I expected better quality from LL Bean. I returned it with no issues.

I am pleased with the fit and quality of my new, soft wool, coat. The fit is perfect in my normal size 8. I read the reviews and ended up ordering up to a size 10 originally, but it looked frumpy. And both sizes had the same snuggness to the arms and shoulders, but neither were constricting, so I stayed with the size 8. The sleeves are nice and long, collar button keeps my neck warm, and the length keeps my legs warm. Although air sneaks in where the coat is open below the 3 buttons, it is overall a very warm coat. Thanks LLBean for offering great sale prices on quality products!

I was thrilled to find a coat in a size 20. (and wonderful wool!!) This is a much better fit than 1X. I hope to find more items in size 20. Also would like to see more items in tall sizes. I live a long way from any major stores so it is very convenient for me to order from llbean. Free shipping is really a plus. Thanks for everything llbean.

this is, by far, the most beautiful coat i have ever purchased. it fits perfectly. i am a shade under 5'6" busty, and broad shouldered. i am definately an "apple shape". i am some where between an 18w-20w in tops.BEFORE i placed my order, i called customer service. the money i was about to spend was no "drop in the bucket" for me. i knew my bust size was right for the 1x, but i had to find out if it would accomodate my SHOULDER width, which is 18" across. i can't rely on sleeve length; i could have a 32.5 sleeve, according to the size chart; BUT if the shoulder section of the sleeve length is too narrow, it won't fit. i have short arms, and can always have the sleeves hemmed. the rep i talked to looked everything up for me and answered all my questions. it turned out that the 1x would accomodate my shoulders so, that is what i ordered. my coat arrived today, and i couldn't be happier with my purchase. it fits my shoulders and bust perfectly, and it doesn't look "boxy" on me at all. i love the way i look in it; i can't say enough about it.

For me - 5' 5" and 148 lbs, it is too tight in shoulders and upper arms. I'm not a stick figure but neither am I a lot overweight but the 10R was not for me. Uncomfortable with only a t-shirt underneath. So if you want a black 10R - it will soon be available, Will mail it back Monday.

This coat is wonderful on cold and breezy days; no wind comes through so you stay "toasty" even on the coldest days and I live in a winter city! The wool is of super high quality and the tailoring is perfect. I have other dress coats from other manufacturers and nothing even comes close to the Bean quality. I am ordering the pea coat too. I ordered my usual size and can wear it over sweaters or not; fits and is comfy either way. I did have to have the sleeves shortened which is no problem and better than so many other coats that run short in the sleeves!!

I ordered the camel color. When I took it out of the box, I couldn't believe how beautiful the fabric was. My heart raced as I tried it on. I am 5'5", 120-125 lbs., bust 34," slender. The size 6 Misses fits perfectly. There is room underneath enough for a nice, dressy suit or bulky sweater. The fit is very flattering coming in slightly at the waist. It is so easy to walk in because the buttons are not positioned too low, but not too high to let the cold in. It would be easy to add an inside snap if you felt you wanted to close the coat lower down; I won't. It falls just a tiny bit above mid-calf, 7 inches below the middle of my knee, not too long but long enough to cover all my skirts/dresses. Sleeve length is perfect. The craftsmanship is superb, like everything else I have purchased in the past ten years made in Vietnam. It is very warm. If a wind were to come up unexpectedly, I could button the top button of the coat and completely seal out the cold. It is well worth the price. With this coat being so beautifully made, I want a second in another color. I have looked for a coat like this in the stores for years but always find they sell out in my size the minute they hit the rack--and for so much more money.

I have just ordered my third coat. I got the loden first, 'cuz where could anyone ever find a long coat of this lovely green?! But a year later, I had been lusting over the subdued red and adore it as well. Now, i have gotten sensible, and know a black coat covers the somber or dressy moments in life. People complain about lengths of arms or the lack if a fourth button, but this is off the rack as they say, and one can easily deal with these issues with a good seamstress. Expectations run too high over clothing. How much can a manufactured item be!? This coat is stunning, warm, but not too warm. The wool is soft and not scratchy at all. It fits me perfectly. I am 5'7" 3X, 67 years old. Enjoy
