Rated 2 out of 5 by Noloveforthiscoat Wanted to love it
I wanted to love this coat, but despite taking the smallest petite size (4P), it was way too big for my frame. I'm 5'2 and 120lbs, fit but by no means skinny, and this coat engulfed me. I am a big fan of the oversize style, but this just didn't work. The shoulders were massive, and the overall look was unflattering. This coat needed to be 2 to 3 sizes down. Bummer because it seemed very warm, and I really liked the color. LL bean, please make a true petite size of this coat?

This was exactly what I was looking for, for a trip from the west to Chicago. Warm and cozy without being heavy (gotta love that Thinsulate!!), and so easy to pack. Fits well - I usually wear a size 6, ordered a size 6, and it fits perfectly, even over several layers.
I echo others' reviews in that an extra button or two at the bottom would be nice and help when there's wind, but that is minor. Overall, it's a great coat, well made and soft, and fits exactly as it should.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Hates2Shop As warm as was promised
This coat is very well made and I have received tons of compliments on it. The coat it replaced was very "boxy," so in comparison, this one feels very fitted. I usually take a size 14, and that's what I ordered, but I wish I had also ordered a 16 to compare sizes - the coat fits very well in the sleeves and on top, but as other reviewers have mentioned, for those of us who are a little curvier in the hips, the bottom of the coat gaps open more than I would have liked. Alas, by the time my coat arrived, it was no longer available in a 16 and was back-ordered until June. I also agree with the reviewer who wished that the pockets were lower, and I wish they were deeper. I'm not comfortable keeping my cell phone in there, although perhaps if the pockets were angled downward more than they are, I would. One thing that really impressed me is how warm the coat is without being bulky - in fact, even in the frigid temperatures we've been experiencing in the Northeast these past few weeks, I haven't even buttoned the coat up unless the wind was blowing. The downside is that it may be too warm for days when the temps reach high 30s or low 40s, but I guess that's a good excuse for buying another coat!

I bought this coat to replace an LLBean one I purchased about 10 years ago. The lining of the older one had fallen apart. I read the reviews and knew the sleeves were long and the fit rather boxy for the new one. That's true. The main reason I returned it, though, is that material wasn't nearly as nice as my old coat. I checked the tag and realized the old one had cashmere in addition to wool. The new one is 100% wool and rather stiff. I took my old one to a tailor who is replacing my lining. The tailor said "this will last another 10 years." The new one went back.

So warm and yet not bulky. I ordered a size up from my regular size due to reviews but that was not needed and I exchanged it for my correct size (14). I am 5'6" and a true 14. The item came packaged with such care. Each button meticulously covered in white tissue paper! The navy color is perfect. Very classy looking coat. The coat is not too tight across the chest and I can move my arms freely. I can wear a blouse and a sweater under the coat but it is not needed for warmth as the coat is lined with Thinsulate. Love this purchase!

Rated 2 out of 5 by sallygavin So disappointing.... a design defect.
I was looking for a long, warm coat to wear on my walks to and from work.
Unfortunately, the buttons stop so high up, that every time I take a step, the bottom of the coat opens up to about mid-thigh! So, my top stays warm, but my legs get COLD!
This is a pretty coat, but it does not keep my legs warm during these cold winter mornings!

This is an excellent coat and the thinsulate lining is perfect for cold winter months in the Boston area.I also like the fact that the coat is 100% wool and not a blend.
I am ambivalent about the desire for an extra button, which many reviewers have expressed. It would be great on a cold, windy day (the wind does cause the coat to fly open at the bottom) but it would be more difficult to walk and certainly you would necessarily have to unbutton it when sitting in your car.
The button at the very top can be buttoned only if you are not wearing a winter scarf but I suppose one could drape the scarf/shawl around on the outside.
Nevertheless, I enthusiastically recommend this product - I rarely write reviews but liked the coat so much that I thought I should do it this time.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Petitelady2 Made for a man
I was very annoyed that this coat was cut so large, lacked any shape, and was tremendous. It was made for a man. Dear LL Bean, women have curves, like styling, and come smaller than size 4. Please carry smaller sizes and tailor your clothing so that women don't look dowdy and masculine. Women want warm coats too, and this is the only coat I found with Thinsulate lining, yet it was styled for a thick man and not a petite woman!
