Rated 4 out of 5 by Summerwindnc Toasty, waterproof, perfect for the Coldest weather
This coat allows you to venture out in the worst weather snug and dry. Unlike other down coats, you have room to wear a warm sweater, or fleece as it is not snuggly fitted.
Down inside the hood will keep you warm, deep fit allows for a knitted hat to layer up for the best protection from the worst weather winter has to deliver.

Rated 5 out of 5 by cmpf An anti-winter forcefield
I bought this coat just before the polar vortex hit the midwest last winter, and I was immediately pleased with it. Wearing this coat is like having a spacesuit with an anti-winter forcefield - the cold just stays on the outside away from you. The coat seems well-made and has a lot of pockets, snaps, and closures to carry your stuff and seal out the wind. I think the hood is particularly well-designed: it's deep enough to sit securely on your head without being tight or binding. This coat made -20 degrees and 50 inches of snow comfortable. I was outside all winter, feeling like an intrepid arctic explorer.

Rated 2 out of 5 by RavenCity The hood
The Baxter jacket is expensive but as will all Bean purchases it is the quality that counts.
I return the coat for one reason only - the fur trim on the hood. I was cheap and small. It did not compliment the coat at all. I looked at other coats in the Mall and found that most had full faux fur trim on the hood. The coat is great don't cheap out on the hood.

Rated 4 out of 5 by MTOD Baxter State Parka
I tried the Baxter State and the Ultrawarm 3/4 coat, and I ended up keeping the 3/4 coat. I like all of the parka's pockets (especially the hand warmer ones), the dark mulberry color, the drawcord at the waist, and the waterproof shell, and the coat itself was super warm. However, the arms were a bit too short for me because I hate bending my arms and having my wrists exposed to the cold air. Also, I sort of wish it came in a 3/4 coat length, because my butt & thighs get really cold when I'm shoveling at oh dark 30 in January. If you usually wear a petite you might be better off getting a regular size. I'm average, 5'6" 140 36D, and my best fit was a L, so if I think it's too short it might be perfect for a petite. All in all it's a really nice coat, just not for me.

Great length, warmth and weight. Excited to give it a full go throughout this winter. I love the fit and the hood. I got the red color - vibrant and fun!

This is a great parka. The hood and the faux fur on the hood are both removable so it is more versatile. Lots of pockets. It is definitely warm and will be used by us for trips to colder climates.

Rated 5 out of 5 by GreatOutdoorswoman It's the way to go for COLD weather!
I own two of these. One is for rough work that gets the jacket dirty, one is for going outside for walks and going to work. The only thing predictable about western Massachusetts winters is that they are unpredictable and horrible - one day minus 10 degrees, the next day in the thirties with 18 inches of snow, the next day howling wind and freezing rain. I have to have effective clothing and the Baxter State Parka comes through it all, keeping me warm, comfortable, and able to work outdoors for extended periods of time. I have one in pale lavender that is so attractive, I wear it to my professional job and everyone compliments me on it. This jacket is a total winner. I had one that got a broken zipper and LL Bean replaced it for free. I can't say enough good things - get yourself one of these jackets and you will never regret it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by myhopeinhim Great coat
So far I love the coat but I ordered ahead to be ready for next winter. For right now I can't give a review for how it holds up to the cold windy winters of the South Dakota plains. But, if it is anything like my other LL Bean coat that I have had for 14 years I'm sure it will do just fine in the frigid temps. I love the fit. I am 5'6" and weigh about 140. The medium is a perfect fit for my build. I like the multiple pockets and drawstring for the waist. I am not crazy about the fur collar and am glad it can be removed easily. The heather navy color is unique and I really like it. Hoping the coat performs well in the cold.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Turnip3 AMAZING Coat!
Southern Ontario enjoyed one of the coldest winters in over a decade BUT nothing stopped this Baxter State Parka! This coat kept me warm and dry throughout our ice storms, snow storms and freezing polar vortex temperatures. The red is a wonderful, bright colour that makes me easy to see in the evenings. Additionally, the length of this coat is fantastic - keeping your upper thighs and bottom warm, but short enough that you can walk easily. Fantastic coat!
