Rated 4 out of 5 by Summerwindnc Toasty, waterproof, perfect for the Coldest weather
This coat allows you to venture out in the worst weather snug and dry. Unlike other down coats, you have room to wear a warm sweater, or fleece as it is not snuggly fitted.
Down inside the hood will keep you warm, deep fit allows for a knitted hat to layer up for the best protection from the worst weather winter has to deliver.

Rated 5 out of 5 by pickydresser1234 finally found the coat of my dreams!
I am SO sensitive to the cold, live in new york city and spend so much time outdoors. I get caught in rain all the time, and this jacket has held up to all its promises so far. this is the first time I really am not cold when I go outside. I keep recommending it to everyone around me.
I ordered this coat in a petite small and returned it for a petite extra small. I am 5'2, pretty large chested and was worried the petite small would be too tiny. it was too big around the sides and I felt cold coming in. I called to do a quick exchange and I had the new one in my hands the NEXT DAY. LL Bean is awesome! this was my first purchase and I am so happy with it.
The XS fits my 5'2 frame perfectly, the arms are just right for me, and it just covers my bottom enough that it warms me. If you're thinking about whether or not to get the petite- take into account that a regular size will give you fuller bottom coverage, which you might prefer, and the arms can be folded up really easily so that might be the way to go. I think I could have gotten a regular XS too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Skippygirl A great coat!
The coat is thick and warm. I ordered the blue and its a nice tone
The coat is a little stiff at first but softens up with some use. Its definitely a great coat for extra cold weather. I plan to use it for many winters!

You don't know cold until you have been standing in the corner on a winter's day in Denver. This baby rocks the cold! I am warm and snug in this jacket. I am nice and warm in the cool -9 degrees with this jacket. So glad I have it. It's long so it cover the core of the body and protects from the elements. This one is a keeper!

I bought this for a trip to Roan Mountain in February. Living in Florida I don't have "winter coats" so I needed to get one. I was thrilled when it was a perfect fit. It leaves just enough room for layering more clothes. It is very light weight but I can tell it is very warm. I am 5'4" and weight 140 lbs. I probably could have gotten a small but I opted for the med hoping I would have a little more room...Perfect!! The hood is also nice and I like how the collar is high protecting my neck. I would definitely recommend this. I will write another review after my trip to Roan Mt..as to it's warmth but I am sure it is going work out just fine.

I bought a Baxter State Parka many years ago and I must say this new version doesn't hold a candle to the original. Now that it is waterproof, the coat is "noisy' and you feel as though you are wearing cardboard (no exaggeration there!!) I felt like the Tin Man from the Wizard of Oz when I tried it on! The material is also extremely rough on your skin. I had to adjust the cuffs to make them smaller with the Velcro tabs and the rough material just dug into my skin and irritated it to the point that I had to release the Velcro.
I also think the buyers for L.L. Bean need to wake up and do a better job with the colors of this parka, they are awful! Not only are the colors awful but to have a grey liner in a woman's jacket or coat is mindless! Grey is fine for men, but the lining of a woman's coat should be a feminine color, not battleship grey! My old Baxter State Parka had a lovely baby blue lining.
I hope your reading this LL Bean. It's truly positive feedback as negative as it is...

I'm returning this parka because it's just not warm enough. At 30 degrees, wearing a heavy cotton turtleneck and a wool sweater underneath this coat, I was still chilly, especially my arms.
Admittedly, my expectations were pretty high. I bought a Baxter State Parka 10 or 12 years ago, and have been delighted with it. It's the only coat that I've ever owned that kept me cozy no matter what the weather. It is finally wearing out, so I decided to order the same coat from LL Bean.
I noticed right away that the Baxter State Park of today is considerably less bulky than the old one. So it is certainly better-looking?but unfortunately, it's also far less warm than its predecessor. The sleeves in particular have a very thin down fill.
To be fair, it's an decent parka that would be fine for mild winters with some layering. It's not a coat I'd want to depend on in a NY/NJ winter, let alone during visits to points north.
Also, I have to agree with the commenters who complained about the pockets. Very strange design that makes it impossible to put your hands in your pockets comfortably.
Sorry, I really wanted to love this coat, but I need something to keep me warm in serious winter, and this is not it.

This parka is unbelievably wonderful! Everything you could possibly want in a jacket is here! One small "flaw" - if the sleeves were at least an inch longer it would eliminate bare wrists when reaching for objects, So far there has been nothing missing on this parka - MANY pockets (some even zippered), many places where the parka may be pulled in tighter to keep breezes from sneaking in and waterproof!!!! I HIGHLY recommend it to anyone who wants to be COZY!

Keeps me extremely warm and dry. I only wish the collar was a little less bulky. Otherwise I love it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by NorthwoodsNatureLady Baxter State Parka the Best Parka
I've been searching for a warm and roomy parka for years. I've found it with the Baxter State Parka. Great coat for the cold winter winds in the mid-west north woods. Was toasty warm walking outside in -20 degree wind chill. The fur ruff on the hood helps block the wind. So happy to finally find a coat with sleeves that are roomy enough for layers of long underwear, turtleneck AND a sweatshirt! The outer fabric is nice and sturdy but not stiff. The lining on the collar and hand warming pockets is soft and toasty on cold skin. The cargo pockets are nice and roomy and the snap closures keep stuff in my pockets secure. The inner fabric on the sleeves allows your arms to slide in and out easily, even when wearing static-prone, clingy sweater material. Plus, for a parka it looks feminine. Love it, love it love it! Perfect for my up north, outdoors lifestyle. Now L.L. Bean needs to make snow pants to match.
