I purchased this to use as the name says on my trap line, as a trappers pack. I used it for 2 weeks. Duties to include carrying a small axe, sifter, trowel, hammer, dry dirt, stakes, and traps. There are many problems with this pack. The waxed canvas and leather are nice rugged materials, but then they mixed in nylon synthetic material that cheapened the look, and hurt the utility of the bag. #1 the straps are not made from any kind of canvas, but a cheaper synthetic material. They not only looked bad, but were not comfortable and performed poorly. #2 the bag does not want to stand up on it's own. #3 the way the straps are designed it makes it hard to load and unload. The the straps extend from the back of the bag through the front, and they are in the way. #4 The nylon lining gives a cheap appearance, and it's dark colors make it hard to see into. #5 the nylon draw cord closure at the top is unnecessary, gets in the way, and tore within the first few days. LL bean as a company is wonderful, and their customer service is next to none. I do feel however that some of their products are starting to weaken in quality, this pack being one.

This is a great basket and gift for just about anything or anyone. The way it is made you could use it in any weather and it will hold a variety of things or (stuff) for an entire weekend, or a whole day of hiking in the woods. Just a great item!

Just what I imagined and hoped for, beautiful heavy waxed canvas with leather bottom and trim and ingenious straps that function also as handles. This pack has the feel and design features of something made 100 years ago that Bean just re-introduced, with only a few new materials, so it looks like something your great grandaddy left up in the attic closet a long time ago and you were lucky enough to discover. Kind of pack you could walk into an upper Eastside NY Brownstone, a hipster pad in Park Slope or a back woods Maine cabin and everyone would think it cool. Just don't tell them where you got it!

This is a great looking trapper backpack...the quality is great. The waxed canvas and leather quality is great. It has the potential to hold lots of gear.
First trip into the woods it carried game cameras, cable locks, a sportsmans pal machete, water bottle, extra gloves & hat, and finally a box of 20 gauge shotgun shells...with plenty of room for more gear. It kept my gear dry shedding water & snow.
The reasons I didn't give it 5 stars are that the should straps are thin & unpadded with no sternum cross-strap and it just has 1 smallish inside pocket...however...don't let that stop you from investing in this pack as it is a great pack and should last for many years...

Love the idea, but the execution is of concern. Specifically, the straps are fairly narrow and are made with lighter weight material that makes it not the most comfortable to carry and worries me that the wear and tear of the straps will give out sooner? A slightly wider and reinforced strap would certainly be an improvement..

It has the features that I wanted but I would have liked a chest strap for a more secure fit when hiking. I will add a strap to mine. Also shoulder straps do have a tendency to slip.

Wish it was bigger. Well made and very unique. Was looking for a "belly" type basket, but this will do.

Rated 4 out of 5áby TomCNY Withstands a load
This bag as everyone has said is well made, large enough to pack a sizeable, heavy load and is pretty comfortable under those loads compared to some other packs I use. This was purchased as a day pack for porting tools and supplies for trail maintenance. I have used it a couple of times so far and it has performed well. My only observations are that it would benefit from an integrated sternum strap. I am 5'8"and have what I would say an average shoulder width. Since the pack is made one size fits all, this would allow a slight adjustment to pull in the shoulder straps and stabilize the pack better (especially when worn over a nylon shell). Second, the webbing appears to be a little to thick or wide for the buckles on the shoulder straps. Mine will not release when pulled up on when I want to take the pack off as all my backpack straps do. Luckily I am able to slip the pack on/off with the straps adjusted to the shorter length due I think the to back panel being a smooth material. Maybe they will break in over time, but right now any adjustments to length of the straps has to be done with the pack on the ground.
Overall a good buy for the price.

I am slowly losing my Dad, an ADK 46er, to Alzheimer's. I love the Adirondacks and he has given me several packbaskets. This is a very versitile and pleasing to the eye pack, and I will use it the rest of my life remembering times we shared in the mountains, then pass it on when the time comes.
