Rated 4 out of 5 by hldShopper mini lantern
I bought one of these for the family in case of power failures. My son liked it enough that he took it to college - for "camping and hiking" so I bought another- it is handy in place of a flashlight if you don't want to hold a light- two brightness levels give gentle light or bright enough to read by. One crank lasts quite a while- and is not difficult to crank again as needed. Light weight for travel and hanging in a tent. A bit of a luxury, but reasonably priced.

The Solar Wind 'N Go Mini Lantern is great if you live in an area of the country that experiences electricity outages. It's solar powered and you can wind the power handle to give you enough light to read a book or find your way in the dark.

This little crank lantern really illuminates an area. Not having to worry about batteries before a storm gives me peace of mind. I leave it on a windowsill so the solar panel soaks up the sun. The bonus feature is the USB port to recharge my phone for a call if needed. Quick, easy to use and affordable. Thank you ll Bean!

Rated 1 out of 5 by HistoryPreserver Very disappointed with product
My husband and I bought this lantern in mid winter/early spring and it worked just as expected. It charged both from cranking and solar. We used it several times when the power went out. Loved it. We took it camping, we camp in northern Maine where there isn't any electricity at the camp sites. It has a hook on the top so I hung in up in our camper the first night. The second night I hung it up the top broke off and was no longer usable. We exchanged it at LL Bean for another one. When we got that one home and out of the package we found that it won't work at all unless you have it on and are using the hand crank. We will be returning this one and will not be buying another one. This is unfortunate since the first one was such a great little light until it broke.

Rated 1 out of 5 by NJCamper100 Didn't work
I wanted this for a nightlight for my kids when we go camping. The unit shipped to us didn't work, perhaps it is an exception. We left it in the sun all day for a solar charge, but the light barely went on. Tried cranking it for several minutes and still there was only light for a few seconds. Very disappointed, as we leave for camping soon. I chose to buy from LL Bean because their quality has always been excellent, but not this time. Returning it today.

Rated 5 out of 5 by AT2013 Terrific little lantern
After suffering through TWO Coleman retro lanterns that failed to work when we really needed them, I opted for this simple lantern.
It is lightweight, provides very bright light, easy to charge by winding.
I was pleased to discover that you can also charge the battery with an AC adapter for 4-5 hours of light.
I had some trouble getting my hands on the right AC adapter, but found one at Radio Shack, along with a size "i" tip. You have to make sure that the tip is pushed all the way into the charging port, but then it works beautifully. LLBean should consider selling the lantern with an AC adapter included.
I am not so worried about the next power outage with this lantern in my house!

I got 2 of these lanterns for power outages and had our first thunderstorm & loss of power last night. Pleasantly surprised at how much light these little lanterns put out. They are small in size but do exactly what you want. I love the fact that we never have to worry about batteries either. I just ordered another and would definitely recommend to a friend.

Rated 3 out of 5 by JV11 Not "Superbright" but enuff for emergencies
I was hoping this lantern would be very bright like a real propane lantern but it is just 3 to 6 little LEDs that shine rather dimly on a mirror that spreads the small amount of light in a nice circular pattern. Nonetheless, because it works without the need for batteries I'm sure it will be of great value when the next inevitable black-out occurs. The instructions claim it has an optional phone charger attachment that may make it very valuable in an emergency - I'll look into that. Just don't expect it to really light up the room, it is only good for emergencies. The amount of light is like those popular garden lights that can dimly light a walkway. I'm taking 2 stars off because the ad made it sound like it would be brighter because the term "superbright" is in the ad - not!
