I was hopeful that the reviews were correct on the sizing so I went ahead and bought my actual size. Well, they were smaller than expected, length wise. I am returning them for the next size up. I did not use them but did try them on for a minute. They were snug and seemed to fit well. Great craftsmanship. Awesome delivery time. It's a shame they didn't fit.

Rated 1 out of 5 by LLBLovers These are NOT fully waterproof!
I purchased these boots about 2 years ago to wear as my primary winter boots for New England winters. At that time, I actually wrote a positive review, but I am now providing a negative review based on the "waterproof" claim that these boots have.
These boots are certainly well constructed and very comfortable. I've been wearing heavy wool socks with them in the winter and my feet are usually warm enough. They've been fine in general snow and rain, until last night, when I had to shovel in rain and extremely wet conditions. I had to step in and stand in some shallow puddles and my feet got SOAKED. In fact, the inside of the boots are still soaked today, so I could not wear them.
So, if you are looking for 100% waterproof boots, do NOT buy these. These should not be advertised as waterproof hiking boots if they get wet inside so easily. I will be returning these once my new pair of Bean Boots arrives (hopefully sooner than later)!

Simply a great boot - comfortable, waterproof, understated, practical for year-round wear. Purchased my first hiking boots from LLBean in 2000, although had the Bean Boot for many years prior, this past summer the soles began to separate from the shoe, returned to LLBean in Dedham MA with no questions asked had a new pair in two minutes. Can't beat that service!

Shoe was good fit in foot area but to tight in leg area. Shoes also came with two differant size laces making it nessesary to purchase new laces at added cost.

Needed a light weight hikers boot and these are GREAT! Size 11 M is perfect and after hiking trails through the desert for hours feet/ankles felt great. Really good soles for rugged terrain and pairing them with point 6 ascent hiking sock kept feet sweat free. Had them on the lake shore and water proofing worked as expected. Found my new camping boot! Also the taupe brown/brown color hid the dirt well, just saying people noticed. :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by LivingInMaine Just as described
This is the third pair of hiking boots I've ordered for my boyfriend and he wears a size 9.5 wide. It is nearly impossible to find shoes/boots for him that are wide enough and are comfortable and the LL Bean hiking boots are true to size and fit him perfectly. The delivery was fast and was here within 2 days. I'm a happy customer and will order again.

Rated 3 out of 5 by krkaff I needed to know more - use Tek 2.5 spray
After 6 to 8 months of fairly substantial use the moc toe started to leak. Otherwise the boots were great. I returned them because the waterproof feature was very important.
However, I talked with a number of Bean folks about this item before finally returning them. The predominant response was - well you can return them at any time.
One specialist pointed out that like Gore Tex, Tek 2.5 fabric does not fail and that there was probably some stitching failure. Because of some rough use this may have been true.
Only after I'd returned the shoes did a salesman at the Freeport store point out the the Tek2.5 spray needed to be used once in a while on the moc toe to keep water from building up there in heavy rain.

Rated 5 out of 5 by JPKinHen Very Comfortable & Waterproof
This is the third pair of shoes I've purchased from L.L.Bean. The first two were Pathfinder Ventilated Hiking Boots, great for hot summer days! I ordered size 11 1/2 wide like the other two pair but they were just a little tight. Exchanged for 12 wide and they fit great. These shoes are very comfortable and fell great from day one, no break in period needed. I wear them to work every day, upstate NY, in and out of snow all day long, never get my feet wet. If you are out in the cold and/or snow for a while (30-60 minutes) your feet will stat to get cold, but never wet! (they are not insulated, which is what I like, your feet do not get hot when in the truck or office) Best shoes for price HANDS DOWN!!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by Cambr1dge Need winter socks
These were great out of the box, very comfortable. I think they're cut a bit wide up front, perfect for winter socks but I suspect they'll be too wide for summer hiking. They keep you dry - why do people keep overpaying for gore-tex anyhow?
