Rated 3 out of 5 by Gagan close but no cigar
I had bought a Maine Warden Parka and had to return that as it was way too big. Instead I opted for the Baxter State Parka and got the size right this time round.
As I do a lot of work outdoors I have to constantly use the four external pockets to store stuff. One of the biggest peeves is the absolutely poor placement of the slash chest pockets. You literally have to have the flexibility of a gymnast to access these pockets. It would have been really great if the chest pockets could have been copied from the Maine Warden Parka.
Otherwise the Parka delivers as advertised

Rated 5 out of 5 by nrodr1 Incredibly Warm In Chicago Winter Weather
This coat allows you to venture out in the worst winter weather Chicago can throw your way. Waiting for the CTA train or bus to arrive, if you didn't time your travel correctly or if the CTA is running late, has never been a pleasure and perhaps still isn't, but this coat certainly has made it much easier on those coldest of days. Definitely recommend getting this coat if you're looking for something that is going to keep you dry and warm. Sizing is pretty standard with other LL Bean products.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Realbiscuit Finest winter coat I have ever owned.
This parka exceeds in all categories. Fits are smaller a bit, so order a little bigger than usual. I purchased an Extra Large when usually I would need a large. The Ex.Lg. fits like a glove. Never cold again.
Have tried the jacket out here in Northern Michigan with 30 mph winds and -7 degrees. Wind chill -25. Ain't nothin but a thing with this Baxter State Parka. Love it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Jackadoodle Great "Lost in a Blizzard" Coat
Bought this on sale 2 years ago. It is an extremely warm and blizzard proof coat. I find that for most of the winter on the coast of Maine it is too warm but inland and during some of our worst cold spells it is more than adequate. Don't find that I need so many pockets most of the time. Not sure it needs a waterproof shell because it's really for weather so cold that there should be zero chance of getting it wet but what the heck, it's an extreme coat! Just wore it through our recent cold snap with -15F cold and felt quite toasty. I am 6'3" and 190lbs and wear a large long. Fits like expected with room for a heavy fleece jacket underneath. Comes to mid thigh so sitting on the frozen car seat is much nicer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Roomie Toasty warm and attractive too!
It finally got bitterly cold here, so I got the chance to test this parka out and only my cheeks got cold. The biting wind did not penetrate the parka, which kept my core completely warm. The hood was easy to manipulate and very protective..
I also could not have been more pleased with the fit and the look. The medium is perfect and the blue color I selected is very attractive.
I almost wish I could wear this in milder weather.
I like the plentiful pockets, though I'm still trying to figure out the internal drawcord. But that's just me, I guess. .

Rated 5 out of 5 by nolabola Worth every penny!
Wore for the first time today and it was more than I had expected, very warm and fit beautifully. The color a fabric are much more than I expected from the online picture. Has many great features such as elastic in sleeve to prevent cold air getting in, always a problem. It was a fairly expensive coat but was worth every penny.

Rated 1 out of 5 by BeaverIslander poor replacement to older model
I ordered as a replacement to the previous version which was the warmest coat I've owned. Unfortunately, the new one is not. I wore it ice fishing today in 20 degree weather and found my arms and back cold in 10 minutes. When comparing it directly to the old one it has about 1/2 of the down loft. I spoke to a product specialist and was told the down weights are identical. The jacket seems to be lighter than the one replaced. I also didn't care for placement of the hand warmer pockets - too high and too low. The outer shell material is quite handsome for a rugged parka and has a hard finish which some would like. My old one was quiet enough for late season hunting. This one is probably more suitable for waiting at an urban bus stop or a late season sports event than serious outdoor use. Bean customer service was top notch as always and I will return it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by LLBActive A Coat for the Cold
can get pretty cold in MN, but this coat can handle just about any winter condition here. have worn it out on -20 degrees and when its warmer at 25 degrees (to warn of a coat for 25 degrees). can easily handle the wind and cold.
wearing only a t-shirt when its 10 degrees out isn't a problem with this coat. if you need to be outside for an extended period of time, this is it for you.
love this coat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by WarmerGuy Heavy-Duty Coat
The Baxter State Parka is good protection from the winter's cold. Since purchasing the coat, I have not yet been able to test it's resistance to really harsh, sub-zero, blustery weather, but by examining it's design and quality, I believe it will do it's job once the nasty weather hits. The only feature of the coat I feel could be improved is the zipper. It's small (in size, not length), considering the size of the jacket. A small zipper is harder to engage and tends to stick at the bottom of travel when un-zipping. A larger, high-quality zipper would suit this garment much better.
