Rated 2 out of 5 by Arbour Good Coat but Frustrating Zipper
I too love this coat but I sweat and swear every time I put it on! The two-way zipper is a good idea for a longer coat like this, but it usually takes me 5 or 10 tries--or I ask my husband for help--to zip the zipper. Obviously that's why you've discounted it so much.
I have another LLBean down 3/4 coat with the same type of zipper and I have NO trouble with it!

I love this coat. It is warm but not too bulky. I haven't had any problem with the down coming out of the fabric. I bought it at the beginning of the season and so far, I'm very happy with it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by NewEnglandBornAndBre Wonderful coat but just not warm enough
This coat is so nice looking and it is a perfect fit. I love the color and the fleece collar. Unfortunately it isn't warm enough. It's advertised as 650-fill down, but I don't think so. My other 650-fill down coats keep me toasty but I was chilly wearing this coat. It's a great car coat or for 30+ degree days.

Rated 4 out of 5 by evaska Smart but Staticky
My only complaint is the amount of static electricity it generates: there must be something either about the lining, or the microsuede, or the combination..... Otherwise, a great purchase, especially at the sale price. It's the smartest looking down coat I've had (and I have had a fair number of competitors' coats over the years, including higher end ones). It is not bulky, but I think that's how it's constructed; anyway, the better the quality, the warmer it is per square inch, with no increase in bulk. Some of the really bulky ones get bulky because of feather content.... The mushroom color is a lovely suede color, very natural looking, with more beige than olive. I got it in medium, and at 5'5"/135 lbs I have room for layering, but I'm not swimming in it (it fits smaller than another LLBean winter coat I tried and returned). I think the proportions are just perfect, and I like that it has no hood, unlike the new re-designed version; the hood took the smart factor away. Anyway, this coat is good enough to go to work in on really cold days, unless I have a presentation or something that requires a business coat proper. And it looks good with practically any scarf I tried, because the color is so neutral.

I previously mentioned that I purchased this coat in black one year ago. The down fill continued to leak out of the seams. When I contacted LLBean about this problem they said they would take it back for full credit. :) So today I am ordering the same coat in a different color and will see how this one lasts. I loved the coat because it was just the right length in the sleeves and overall (I ordered a petite) and the weight of it was just right. I also liked that it wasn't that noisy fabric that a lot of down coats are made of. A friend of mine bought the same coat and she said hers never leaked out feathers at all. Sooo here goes, hope this one is a good one! And- now it's on sale!

Rated 4 out of 5 by bcbandmom Great coat, stupid zipper
I love this coat - it is so soft, and not real heavy, but is windproof, so it is very warm. The collar is soft and comfortable and I love the way this coat looks- plain enough to be every day, but dressy enough if you need more than a light coat when you want to look nice. My one complaint is the difficulty of this zipper! It can take me 10 minutes to get it zipped up, or I might get it zipped up the first time. Frustrating. It's a double zipper and difficult to get the two parts together correctly. If it weren't for this zipper, I would give it 5 stars.

I bought this coat for my wife last Christmas and in less than one full season's use the down/feathers started poking thru the shell. Clearly the shell fabric is too low of a construction to properly hold the down. Bean has authorized the return of the coat for credit. I wonder how many complaints of this nature they have received. Incidentally the cost of the coat was much higher last year. From the price alone I expected a good quality coat but did not receive one.

I am puzzled by the variations in reviews for this garment. Perhaps there is a quality control issue that LLBean should look into. I purchased the 3/4 length coat after buying the shorter jacket, which I also recommend. The garment I received was satisfactory in every way, including the amount of down provided. I usually wear a Medium and find the jacket and the coat to be well within those parameters. I can comfortably wear a warm sweater or fleece top underneath. The winters where I live can be chilly and damp with a considerable windchill -- not frigid winters as in much of the US, but certainly cold, especially at night. For my purposes, this coat is perfect. If you have very cold winters, it may not be for you. Occasionally, I have to redo the zipper, but if I take my time and line it up correctly to begin with, I have no trouble. I purchased both the jacket and the longer 3/4 length coat on sale and feel I got a bargain in both cases. This is a comfortable, warm, casual choice for mid-range winter weather.

Rated 3 out of 5 by GoGirl2 Good looking, but not very warm
A nice enough coat for in-between fall/spring weather: fifties, forties. Certainly not warm enough for real winter cold. As soon as temperatures drop into the thirties, I switch to a different coat. That said, it is a good looking coat, and I've been wearing mine (in black) for three years now (the down does tend to "leak" out at the seams, but ... not to a very noticeable extent).

Rated 1 out of 5 by EwilyW Where's the Down?
This down coat has almost no down, it's basically two pieces of microsuede sewn together. There is no loft to the material and it was very disappointing. I read prior reviews, took a change, and agree only with the other reviewers that don't like this coat at all. In addition to having very little down, the material seems to generate static and attract lint, which causes it to look dirty and the wearer sloppy. It was staticky in early October so by the dead of winter I imagine it will be worse. Given then lack of down, one might not wear it in cold weather.
