Love this bag, I have fly fishing gear from LL Bean made of same material. Very tough material and looks better with age. Doesn't wear out-wears in!

Overall this has turned out to be a nice bag. I would have given it 5 stars except for one thing which is a big deal for me. I like to use the side pocket for my cell phone. Unfortunately the side pocket is not big enough to accommodate an iPhone 5 or other phones of similar size. Other than that, this bag is excellent!

After finding the Continental Field Kit in the online catalog and the fact that it was in stock at the Freeport Store, I went to the site during the week. Even though I had a hard time to remember the exact name for the item, the floor clerk in the Luggage and Backpack Area was very patient and helpful in assisting me in locating the item. Actually, it had been moved to a rack in the Men's Department but she escorted me to where it was located. IT was a pleasant experience and I now have the field kit loaded with my iPad, accessories and even my L.L. Bean field glasses!

Rated 4 out of 5 by GregoryW Great bag, bad buckle
I'm a guy and I usually carry a messenger bag. In the summer, I don't carry as much stuff so I was looking for something on the small side. This bag is the perfect size for me. I can fit my wallet, kindle, phone, phone stuff, etc. I like that there are a few compartments so that I can keep things organized. The bag is made very well and it generally looks great. I like the leather and the waxed cotton. However, I don't like the fake buckle. The main flap attaches to the bag via a magnet. The big buckle on the front is for show - there's no reason it should be there. So far, I've found that the magnet is strong enough to keep the bag closed, but I'm not a fan of magnets on bags. LL Bean should redesign the bag so that it uses a real buckle or clasp.

I got this bag for Christmas last year, and I love it. I use it everyday to carry all my stuff that can't or shouldn't go in my pockets. It is durable, well made with quality materials, and I know it will last a long, long time. Thank you.

This thing is rugged. The inside zipper compartment is safe and secure. It's big enough to carry a rain jacket. Small enough to not drag you down.

The superlative reviews that I read about this bag before I bought this bag do it justice. Its a very well made bag. I use it to pack a small 'QRP' radio around in.The bag has enough pockets for cords, microphone and secures all these items well. I was able to place some open cell foam padding around the radio and still close the flap and cinch strap over it. I like this bag so much that I'm going to purchase the larger version of it.
My only concern was that the snap, (easy open) feature of the cinch strap would pop open under strain, but so far so good, the snap remains fastened, I would like to see this particular feature deleted however, The cinch strap is rendered merely a decoration now, with its present design.
Still, all in all, this is a very good bag; practical, useful, rugged! I like it very much.

Rated 4 out of 5 by MoonSmiles Excellent!
Overall, this is an excellent, well-designed field bag.
It is rather heavy, but it will work well for my birdwatching.
The main drawback for me is that the water bottle pocket is rather small. It's large enough for a half-litre enviornmentally-unfriendly plastic disposable water bottle, but too small for my aluminim bottle, and definitely too small for Nalgene or Camelbak style bottles.
The other design flaw, in my opinion, is the strap connects to the bag right where above the bottle pocket. It rubs against the one non-disposable bottle I can actually fit in the small pocket.
PROS
+ durable
+ attractive
+ versatile
+ plenty of pockets
CONS
- pricey, compared to alternatives
- heavy, though not much heavier than alternatives
- water bottle pocket too small
- strap connection rubs against bottle
- strap could be more comfortable
OVERALL
= excellent!

I almost bought a much cheaper version, but disliked the color. This bag is worth the price for construction, durability, and usefulness. And its light weight.

If you like lots of pockets and excellent materials, then this is the small bag for you. I bought this to carry my 8.9" tablet (housed in a thick Outerbox, and it fits perfectly. In additiion to the tablet and charger, my smallish camera fits, a portable GPS unit, pack of cigs, utility knife, keys, small water bottle, and an 8 oz. flask of my favorite beverage .... all of these fit nicely. AND, there are more pockets for small stuff, which I may use for bandaids, insect repellent, suntan lotion, ect.
