Tangle-free and works well in cold water/weather. Casts as if it were a half weight light when compared to SA equiv. lines. Not a strong weight forward configuration....casts more like a double taper than a rocket or extreme weight forward taper which allows for less noisy presentations in still water or on the flats. A good caster looking for a stealth line will enjoy this line especially if using a fast action rod that can be up-lined one weight

I was introduced to this line by a guide on Martha's Vineyard a couple years ago, and it is far and away the best striper line I have ever used. It is effective in the surf and is a good boat line as well, even in deep water. Unlike some other lines, it has very little memory, and is easy to cast. After a recent outing in which a fishing companion struggled with tangles and had to stretch his line after every 30 minutes of fishing, I bought him this line. The intermediate sink rate works well in shallow water. On fast rods I have been very happy with casting line one weight up (9 wt. line on an 8 wt rod.)

I bought Forty Plus Saltwater IS 9wt. and I have been enjoying to fish with this.
I could cast from short to long distance with ease. This line works well in cold water. Welded connection between running line and rear taper is very smooth. The running line doesn't stretch so that I could feel more strikes.
My only complain is that the part of running line adjacent to the welded connection tend to twist and needs to be smoothed out as necessary. Otherwise, this is great product.

This line casts beautifully -- but tangles so much, and so often, that I returned it. Problem occurred if I had more than about 30 feet of line at my feet. At times it would tangle one in every 10 casts; then for some reason it would tangle once every 3 or 4 casts, even every other cast. Result? I spent more time untanglgin (these were nasty tangles) than fishing. At one point my buddy caught and released 2 stripers while I was messing with a single tangle.
THings were fine as long as I didn't try to cast more than 40-50 feet. But if I tried to use more line than that, the line waiting at my feet would form a tangle as I false-casted -- and when I tried to shoot the line out, a knot would hit the guides. I might as well have had a 50-foot fly line.
No hard feelings to LL Bean, however -- and kudos to the company for having such a liberal and sensible returm policy. I'll buy plenty more from them down the line.
