I have deer hunted in Michigan for two seasons wearing this jacket, and our family hunts drive and post - so we walk 10 or 15 miles a day during the hunt. At first I thought I was always soaking wet because it leaked in the snow and rain. This year I realized it was just that the sleeves were like wearing a garbage bag and never let the moisture out. Yesterday I took to wearing it inside out while I was moving, and then wearing it normally when I would post so it would dry. Good cut and fit, but I don't think I can stand another season being soaking wet through the arms and shoulders. I would exchange if I could.

Rated 4 out of 5 by spiller Men's Bean's Big Game System Basic Shell, Hunter O
I use this primarily as a upland hunting jacket. It is very light weight and very warm. Seems to alow for good movement and swing of the gun while upland hunting. Only complaint is the cuff. The cuff has a huge velcro strap that can catch and bunch up. If the cuff did not have a strap and was just tapered like the cuff on a sweatshirt, this would be 5 stars all the way!

Purchased this for upland hunting due to the lack of quality waterproof upland clothes in hunter orange. Would give it 5 stars with the exception of the sleeve cuffs. They have a very long velcro stap that is just too big. Bunches up badly and is hard to use with gloves. Other than that, this is a great item!

I have worn this shell for a few years hunting in temps from upper 30's to low teens. It has been exactly what I wanted. Comfortable, quiet, able to layer underneath it according to temps and it sheds wind and rain as advertised. Pockets are roomy and easily accessible. Layers perfectly over the reversible down jacket.

Rated 2 out of 5 by HikerCacher Don't consider this to be a shell.
Bought it for an orange outer shell/windbreaker. It is a fleece type of finish which I do not consider to be ideal for an outer layered garment. Walking in the woods with this I would expect to collect ticks and lots of debris from bushes and thorns. Looks like it would be warm and a bit larger than other medium jackets that I have bought from LLBean so more like an outer shell in that respect. Returning it for something different.

I bought this for my son and it is a very nice jacket. It has a soft, suede feel to it to keep noise down. I haven't seen how waterproof it is, but it seems very well made, has ample pocket room and is quiet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by GWSloan Comfortable Hunting Shirt!!
I now have several of these really, really comfortable shirts to hunt in. The fabric is really soft, and the shirts come out of the dryer wrinkle-free. I wear these to my outdoor gun club because they are so visible!

Rated 4 out of 5 by Venator2 Medium Jacket; not the "shell" I wanted
Being one of the few blaze orange "shells" I could find on the market, I ordered this one. I found it is really not a "shell", but more like a medium weight jacket. I could never wear this hunting at temperatures over about 25 degrees F with light layers underneath. So I wouldn't call it a "shell". For colder weather well below freezing I think it would do an excellent job although maybe it would be a little noisy in the woods; it has freedom of movement, loose fit, comfortably cut around the shoulders. But, I personally prefer quiet wool for that. I'd still recommend it for cold weather hunting, sitting on a stand, etc. (I returned mine for a refund, still looking for a "shell").

When I first received this I was pleased with the material which I expected to be quiet. After wearing it in a sleet that turned to snow I couldn't have been more disappointed. Any bump against a tree and it sounded like velcro being pulled apart. I would not recommend this to serious hunters in northern regions where snow is a normal occurance.

Rated 3 out of 5 by MNhighpockets good for the price
I was looking for a waterproof/breathable parka in blaze orange for hunting deer in northern MN. I did not want anything with thermal insulation and also need a tall size so this seemed like a good option.
The main drawback for me is that this jacket isn't as breathable as I was hoping. I realize waterproof/breathable is always a tradeoff between the 2, but I throw off a lot of heat while on the move and need something that really breathes.
I first wore this over a baselayer on a windy day in low-40 temps. Hiking at a slow pace up and down moderate hills with a light pack I was definitely feeling damp inside the shell. The insides of the sleeves, in particular, seemed to accumulate and retain moisture.
The second day I sat in a treestand in upper-30s temps for several hours after a short walk in. Under the parka I wore the same baselayer plus a medium-weight wool sweater and fleece vest, and was warm throughout the afternoon.
This jacket doesn't have a lot of frills - no chest pockets or inside zippered pockets, no pit zips, and the handwarmer pockets aren't ideally-placed. The 2-way zipper is a nice feature, and the hood is functional and well-designed.
The outer material has a definite nap to it, and readily picks up stickseeds, burrs, etc.
For less than $100 it's a good piece, but as another reviewer alluded to, the material isn't perfect and I was hoping it was more breathable. I'll keep this jacket for hunting out of a stand, because it offers more flexibility than a parka with integrated thermal insulation. But I'll keep looking for a more breathable shell (in tall sizes & blaze orange) for hunting on the move.
