Rated 1 out of 5 by JLL1 Too small!
I should have believed the other reviews that these are too small. I bought small to medium size because I'm a pretty small person. These gaiters are too short to cover more than just your ankle and maybe part of the top of your boot. Too tight to wear if wearing long pants tucked into the gaiter. Too difficult to put on.

We hiked using these gaitors for the first time in 4-6 inches of snow. The were very comfortable and kept us dry. Both my husband and I bought a pair and had no problems with the fit around our waterproof hiking boots.

These are ideal for XC skiing off-trail to keep snow out of tops of boots. They are breathable, and that is a big plus. The closures are all velcro with cover flaps. The buckle adjustment under foot of boot even has a tab to insert the end of strap. I wear a size 9 women's and ordered the L/XL and very satisfied with the fit. After reading other reviews, I was a bit concerned about fit around the calf. I have well-muscled calves and these fit very well. No tightness. Wonder if others who found them tight were trying to use them over heavy pants (ie snow pants or downhill ski pants) These are ideal for xc skiing/ hiking in winter and a great alternative to the knee-high post-holing gaiters.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Peter440 Low gaiters do the job
These are lower than I expected from the photo. They come a bit over the top of my boots, near the bottom of my calf. I got them because our foothill area is full of stickers, and even with long pants, they get into the fabric areas of the boots and the tops of the socks. With these gaiters I can wear shorts and hike for hours without being bothered by stickers.
At the end of a hike, I have to remove stickers that accumulated in the bottom of the tongue of the boots, below where the hook of the gaiters fastens, and from the velcro fastening of the gaiters. A few stickers work through the nylon of the gaiters, but they don't get into the socks or boots.
My wife has a pair of gaiters (different make) which are higher, and have a draw string to keep them tight on your legs. I prefer these, because they just sit in place without needing to be tightened at the top.
I have no idea how these will work in rain or snow.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Iminthegarden Too small for an adult
I'm a smallish adult female and could not get these to wrap around the instep of my hiking boots. Returned them. They would probably fit a 10-13 year old average size child. The quality seems good but they are not sized correctly.

To tight for me, I bought the small, I am 5'6". 130 lbs. from the other reviews I picked the small size. I was torn between the short gaiters and the longer ones. The short were way to small I'm sending them back for the long ones. Hope they are not as tight

Other reviewers had commented on how tight the gaiters were. So I was a little worried when I ordered mine true to size I wear a 7.5 or 8 women's boot and I ordered the S/M. I wore the gaiters on a 10 mile hike through ice, snow, and mud and they performed beautifully. I found them to be very comfortable, not too tight at all. Guess it must depend on the shape on your leg or something. I'm very pleased.

A mixed review - While these gaiters are well made in CHINA, the only reason I bought them is that the womens winter gaiters were sold out with no apparent back-order.
These gaiters were suggested as an alternative, esp for women with short legs. To be fair, they did keep snow out of my boots, but I really wanted coverage up to my knees.
Maybe they'll be useful in the early spring to summer months for hiking through tall wet grass, etc., which I think was the original intent for these. I will keep them.

Rated 2 out of 5 by OutdoorDogLover VERY POOR SIZING
I ordered these for cross country skiing because I thought the ones designed specifically for women would be too long and would come above my knee. (I am only 5'1"). These are a good length but both the S/M (my original order) and the L/XL (my exchange order) are too small around the top. The elastic must be stretched to its fullest for the velcro to close even over my bare leg. (I am not a large women. I wear a size 8-10 pant ). The pressure from the elastic was uncomfortable just trying them on. I am disappointed but I must return them.

I've had these gaiters for more than 13 years now and they still do the job. I use them for desert hiking, including canyons where you're often climbing over boulders or hiking in the water on jagged and slippery rocks. My gaiters have absolutely no holes in them and successfully keep out the dirt, thorns, gravel and debris. I haven't had any trouble with the size of the gaiters. They are somewhat difficult to get on (as are all gaiters) but with practice it becomes easy. I've had to replace the strap that goes under the foot a few times but the gaiters themselves have held up very well. They get softer and more comfortable with age. I found them not quite as comfortable while hiking on the Appalachian Trail where there is more humidity; the gaiters did not breathe well on those long hikes and I sent them home. But I highly recommend them for desert and/or water hiking.
