(230Cm); Using this with an 11 foot 31inch wide 70lb. sit-on used for angling. It moves the boat well; feels very sturdy (I've pushed off banks with out even thinking of snapping anything). It's not the lightest I've picked up, but light enough for my 4-6 hour days. I sometimes paddle close to a mile to get to certain spots (lakes and river) and I am impressed with the performance at this price point.

Rated 5 out of 5 by CarolCola Lightweight and adjustable paddle
After springing for a new kayak & PFD I saw this paddle at a reasonable price. Since I am a beginner, I really don't need all the bells & whistles until I figure out what is working & not working for me. So far the paddle seems to be just right. Put together in about 5 seconds, sturdy & light. Not sure what the 'Magic' is... but it works well in the river & bay where I paddle.

Rated 5 out of 5 by WeekendKayaker Moves me along easily
I had had my old wooden kayak paddle for over 25 years, and it was starting to delaminate at the end. I searched online, to learn, to my total amazement, that there were paddles costing Hundreds of dollars! Not having big money to spend on a new paddle, I was a bit apprehensive, buying one of the cheaper paddles I found. I looked for a reasonably priced paddle with good-sized blades, reasonably lightweight and one with good reviews. The Carlisle Magic Paddle seemed to fit those requirements. I've used it 3 times now, and have not been disappointed. It moves me easily through the water and is quite a bit lighter than my old paddle.. Two thumbs up!

Lightweight, yet sturdy. Like the length -- a little easier to paddle.

Rated 2 out of 5 by adfallon 2 defective products
The first product arrived defective out of the box. The right half of the paddle (shaft) was 'crimped' slightly, not round. Not a big deal, but the button that is supposed to retract and click in place to hold the left half in place would not work at all. I had to take a solid item and press it to get it to retract. Then it would not pop back out unless I stuck my hand in the tube and firmly pushed to get it to pop back out. You can't do that while it's assembled, so you can't lock it to use it. Completely useless product. I called LL Bean, they were great at shipping another immediately. The replacement had the SAME DEFECT. I called the manufacturer directly, they apologized and said they'd send a replacement button. I gave them the exact description of the model on the label. The rep didn't bother to take a phone number or email to follow up, just my address and send the part. It arrived, and won't even remotely fit. It clearly is not made for this paddle.
I eventually took some tools to the second paddle's button, crimped and reshaped it, after seeing the replacement part and how it installs / removes. I eventually got it to work. Now I only have a crimped handle on the right side. But I'm sick of dealing with this and won't call LL Bean or the manufacturer again, so I live with the crimped right handle.
I would never buy this brand product again. The paddle is a nice paddle, but it's not worth the hassle of poor product manufacturing and quality control.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Vermontkayaker Questionable quality
We are fairly new to kayaking and were happy to find an inexpensive paddle to get us started. Ordered 2 of these and after 3 uses, one of the paddles wouldn't fully lock together because the pin was getting stuck inside the paddle. Overall though, we love how lightweight they are and the oval-ish shape of the grip area fits nicely in our hands. I will comment that LL Bean customer service is outstanding and that is why I feel completely comfortable with continuing to buy their products. We called LL Bean, told them about the problem, and I had a new paddle in hand in less than 48 hours with no charges for anything. Love this company and am hoping that the new paddle works for us for a long time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Perrygirl Great extra paddle
I bought a 2nd kayak last year so that friends could join me on the lake when they stop over. I wanted to replace the paddle I bought with the kayak, as it was not the right size. I didn't want to spend a lot of money but I wanted a decent paddle with some heft. This paddle fit the ticket nicely. It is well designed and has nice sized paddles at each end. The only complaint I have is that the connection isn't as snug as I would like so there is the smallest bit of wiggle. However, it works well for my needs.

Paddle arrived slightly damaged/bent. Too much of a hassle to send back. Should function ok.

I love LLBean products and purchased these over the internet for a Christmas gift so won't be using them until spring or summer when our lakes unthaw. I would like to make everyone aware of the mistake I made when I first received the paddles. I thought they were defective because one handle was round and the other was oval. I figured it must have been dented or crushed in packaging and returned them for another pair. To my surprise, the second pair arrived the exact same way. When I brought my paddles to my local LLBean store the salesman explained the paddles are made this way to help with feathering, particularly the right handed paddler. The right hand will do the rotating and the oval shape is more ergonomic. The left hand is used to let the paddle handle pivot, in which a round handle works better. I don't ever feather my paddles and he told me it didn't matter, the paddles would still feel more comfortable with an oval shape handle on the right and round shape on the left. He also explained left handed paddlers easily adapt. Hope this information helps others.

Rated 5 out of 5 by CapeKayaker Nice paddle
This is a very nice paddle. It's very reasonably priced, and light weight and smooth in the hand. Maybe I've been paddling with older paddles that have gotten a little beat up over time, but this was a pleasure to use this past fall season on lake kayak trips. Feels strong, propels well, and breaks down easily. Looks good, too.
