I highly recommend this shirt to hikers, boaters, fisherwomen, or anyone who needs lightweight sun protection.
In over 19 years of sailing, I've put together a collection of sun shirts from BIG NAME outdoor brands for protection from the spring and summer sun. They were either too large or too tight around the chest.
Then, about four years ago, I bought my first L.L. Bean Tropicwear shirt and will never buy any other brand again. They wear like iron and are the only shirts I've found that really fit me (a not-thin, not-heavy, I guess you'd say average, size 6).
You will enjoy them because they are easy to wash and wear. They feel light against your skin, but block the worst of the sun. They last forever -- my first Tropicwear shirt looks almost as good as the day I bought it.

I just got back from a week out west and this was the ONLY long-sleeve shirt I took. It was perfect on all counts:
1) VERSATILITY: Can be worn "open" as a jacket, and on warm days the sleeves roll up nicely and can be secured with the button strip.
2) QUALITY: The wonderfully soft fabric held up great with NO PILLING. I handwashed the shirt in the hotel sink, hung it up and it was dry by morning! Needs no ironing. And the SPF is a great bonus!
3) APPEARANCE & FIT: All the colors are gorgeous. I took the Shell Pink on my trip, but also purchased the shirt in Pale Blue and Tropical Orange, because the colors are too pretty to resist! I am a standard Size 8, and the Medium fits great. Really appreciate the generous sleeve length, as it protects tops of hands from sun. LOVE the matching, rubberized buttons!
4) SLIMMING EFFECT: Ladies, are you listening? This shirt will take 10 pounds off you! I look at the photos of myself from the trip, and can't believe it's me!

I would ask LL Bean to please have more clothing in the Petite Sizes. I will be returning the size Small Tropicware Shirt.

Very comfortable shirt, cool fabric, fits well. I like that its casual but not loose fitting. But not too tight for movement either. Very happy!

I have a few "sun shirts" I've collected over the years, but my recent purchase of LL Bean's Tropicwear Shirt is the softest and most comfortable fabric of them all. This is definitely my favorite new shirt!

I bought this shirt to wear while traveling in a hot climate known for pickpockets.
It is nicely made shirt with zippered pockets large enough to hold a passport and some cash. Unfortunately, I found it a bit large in the bust (I'm a 36C) and not large enough in the waist in size medium. Could be I need to return to Weight Watchers and trim my waistline! In any case, it appears to be tailored for a man? I would recommend this shirt to a friend who is built straight up and down.
The color, charmingly named lapis quartz, and appearing pale turquoise on my computer screen, is actually powder blue (not a color I can wear easily).
Fortunately, my local dept. store carries a similar item at a higher price. So I am returning the shirt asap and do not plan to re-order a larger size.
This is not the first time I've found size inconsistencies in LL Bean products, usually in petite lengths that range from 27.5"-28.5". FWIW, I prefer 28.5".

This shirt is extremely comfortable, lightweight and keeps you protected all day from the sun's harmful rays. I like the tabbed sleeves that give you the option of completely covering up or use as a short-sleeve shirt. Plenty of pockets, I especially like the zipper pocket on the left front - it keeps items easily accessible whenever you need them.

I like this shirt. It is comfortable and washes well. I usually hang it on the line rather than put it in the dryer because it seems to dry quickly with very few wrinkles. The fit is rather amorphous and that is fine because I consider it an everyday shirt, it would be hard to make a fashion statement in this creation. Seems to be made well.

The extra large size was smaller than similar items purchased in the past which still fit.
