This shirt is both comfortable and nice looking. It fits slightly loosely. The fabric is a nice weight for spring. I had one of these shirts for many years and finally wore it out. I plan to do the same with this one.

I bought this top in the blue with coral stripe.. I am very disappointed in the quality of the top. I would expect more out of a company that has been around as long as L.L.Bean. The stripe on the top I received is sewn all wavy and not centered in the front. The texture is a heavy rib. I would expect that there would be some quality control before an item is shipped out. Since there is a shipping charge to return it, the money returned would not be very much. Not worth the hassle.

I received 2 french sailor's shirt 2 days ago (navy/cream,cream/navy). I really liked both of them until I washed them today. Cream/navy shirt had a very noticeable hole after one wash. I was very disappointed with the quality of the shirt. I have purchased some clothes from ll bean in the past because of the quality and durability. I will not recommend this shirt to anybody.

I ordered this in a 2XL and was surprised to find how short the length was. I was expecting it to hit at my hips and it was just past my waist. I was also expecting a finer knit on the fabric. It had a ribbed look and felt more like a sweater than a shirt.

Rated 3 out of 5áby NorthernNan Classic Styling, Great Colors but TOO Short
I love these shirts. The LL Bean brand of French sailor shirt seems well made and comes in great color combos. But here's the thing - if you are going to make them in PLUS sizes (thank you!) make them longer. Big women don't want shirts falling just above or at the hip. We don't want short shirts at all. Please make the PLUS size women's shirts longer?perhaps between regular and tunic length. I had to send two back because they were so inappropriately short. If they were longer I would buy one in every color. I want to wear these great french sailor shirts, but I need coverage.
So, no matter what size you order, these are not going to cover your belly, girls.

I always look forward to the new season's offerings of new colors in this classic LLB top and always add a few new ones to my small collection. The turquoise/French blue is lovely- one of the best color combinations ever- I love the shade of lavender blue on turquoise! I can see why it is perpetually sold out. I was lucky enough to get the boatneck and the 3/4 zip so I am set for spring!

I purchased the off-white with navy stripes... it's tooo off white. The yellow/ivory just makes me look sallow. I also did not care for the coarse feel of the knot. the cut and the weight were nice though.

Rated 5 out of 5áby Pooch925 Great sweater
To clear things up since it is not apparent in the description, this is definitely a sweater-type top. It is not as light as a t-shirt; but not as heave as most cotton sweaters - it really is in-between, which is why it is great fro this time of year. I must admit, that I would also like to see this in the pima cotton t-shirt style fabric; but this one is much more versatile. The fit is exact. I usually wear a 1X - and that size was perfect for the relaxed fit. However, I did order an XL recently to take with me to London because I want a closer fit with less bulk.
I have worn this with slacks, skirts, and a blazer for work; then with jeans or crop pants for a more casual look. I receive nothing but compliments on this top - and this one is very close to the style you will find all over Europe. European women will have a few of these in their closet because they are easy to wear and easy to pack.
You cannot go wrong with this; and if you are doubtful - start with the ivory/navy or the navy/white as basics. Throw it on with your skinny jeans, some ballerinas, and a scarf - and you will look and feel great.

Rated 3 out of 5áby AnnfromJanesville Don't care for the boatneck
I've been an LLBean customer for many years. Over that time I have bought two of the French Sailor Shirts--cream with navy stripes, and green with navy stripes. I was interested in purchasing another but I see the style has been changed to include a boatneck. For that reason I will not be ordering one. Boatnecks can look sloppy, show boney upper torso/neck areas, and reveal bra straps. I guess some woman think they are more "feminine" but not I. Bring back the original crew neck and I may consider purchasing more.

Rated 3 out of 5áby Murpwholovestees French sailor , 3/4 sleeve boatneck, striped top
I just received the French Sailor's shirt, 3/4 sleeve boatneck top in the poppy stripe. It runs a little small -- about 1/2 size. And it's not poppy -- it's orange! Not my color so I'll return it. I always wear size XL in LL Bean tops, but not this one. Also, the fabric isn't all that soft and the weave is sweater-like, not usual tee shirt fabric. I guess I really do prefer pima cotton!
