I bought this in the tomatoey red with white stripes. (It is more of a Campbell soup color than shown on my laptop screen.) What a useful shirt! It goes with so many colors. It is simple, clean cut and comfortable. It has become more go-to traveling shirt - I've now traveled with it on 3 continents. I've worn it to formal meetings and on the trail. It fits in a more flattering way than the French sailor shirt I bought 3 years ago. That one was little blocky. This one seems slightly more fitted. Nicely made. Washes well. Good product.

I have never gotten rid of a French Sailor shirt. One is over 20 years old. They LAST.
Or they did until maybe 5 years ago. I quit buying them after one arrived with a saggy neckline and unacceptable shrinkage after one wash.
I am 5'3" and a large. I got the blue/cobalt one in the hopes that it would be ok. Nice clean neckline a longer fit (love that). After a delicate wash and delicate dry, it was EXACTLY like it was when I took it out of the bag.
The fabric is a bit rough when new, but a wash took care of that. Substantial fabric. Very happy!

I discovered the French Sailor's Shirt last year and now have 5 of them. I love the colors, the fit and the weight. I find that it is something I can wear year round.

I've been wearing these tops since I went to college near Freeport, Maine over forty years ago! Just received my newest French Sailor's shirt in awesome aqua/white. Alas, the fabric is scratchy and rough---not the soft Peruvian cotton like my light blue/white French Sailor's top.
I'm returning it. Please bring these back in soft cotton fabric, not rough, scratchy material. I have skin sensitivity issues and have always counted on LL Bean for all cotton clothing that feels good.

For several years I have owned multiples of the French Sailor's Shirt. Each year LL Bean introduces new colors. I already had purchased two new ones earlier this season and today am going back for another. These tops are a staple of my spring/summer and early fall wardrobe. They are not only flattering and comfortable, but they also look great with slacks, jeans and skirts. I am so glad they're available in petite and I can order with confidence that the fit will be consistent. These tops also wash like a dream. LOVE!

Rated 4 out of 5 by RVcampinggirl Love My New Shirt!
I love my new shirt! I ordered the Indigo Heather/Cream in a Petite Medium and the color and size are perfect. The material was very scratchy out of the bag but nice and soft after washing. Note that the shirt length from the back of the neck to the hem was 23", and after washing in cold water and drying on Low for less than 10 minutes, is now 22.5". Hopefully, the shirt will not shrink any more, but I plan to air dry next time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by AAJane Great shirt! New favorite!
I purchased two of these last week; I couldn't decide which color to choose. I wore my first today in 91 degree heat and 13% humidity. It was 41 degrees this morning. The material is thick but it breathes, I stayed warm with my jean jacket this morning but not roasty this afternoon. It is a wonderful, thick, quality t shirt I can wear a colored bra under and no one will be the wiser. The texture is different than regular t shirts, but it makes it unique and work appropriate. It is stretchy all around and at the elbows, but not like a cheap shirt. I have gained weight around the middle this year and was worried about the reports of clinginess, but it skims not hugs and looks attractive. I am 5'5" 120lb and wear extra small shirts and size 6 pants. I am (im)patiently waiting for LL Bean to make black with white or cream stripes and I will purchase another. I like it so much I would even purchase it at full price!

Rated 1 out of 5 by AmberMarie Disappointing Purchase
This shirt really is more of a sweater and I am very surprised it was listed under Tees and Knit Tops. I was expecting a much lighter material.
I also typically wear a size 6 and found the regular small to be very frumpy on me and not fitted at all. And the boat neck is much too large.
Really disappointed in this purchase all around and plan to return it immediately.

I purchased this blouse earlier this year in my usual size, 2x. It came pretty quickly but the sleeves were tight. I reordered a size larger, it fit nicely and I was satisfied. I washed it when I got it, wore it once and then washed it again. Yesterday when I put it on I see the neckline is all stretched out. It feels like it is falling off! I can't return it now since it has been laundered twice but only worn once. I guess I am stuck with it. The fabric is nice but the neckline is so large it feels like it is falling off me! I will not be ordering this again!

I have four of these from several years ago. Love them. They are soft, substantial, and fit very well. Recently I ordered another one. What a disappointment. While the colors are gorgeous the fabric is thinner and scratchier. My main complaint is the fit. LLBean has changed many of the fits from relaxed to slightly fitted. I AM NOT SLIGHTLY FITTED ANYWHERE. I used to be able to wear an XL in most tops but now if I want one in the new fit I have to order a Women's size. This is not fair. Bean's seems to be pandering to the skinny crowd and excluding the fuller figure women. I can no longer wear most of the shirts I did before, and will not order any more until the fit is back to relaxed. Keep the smaller fit if you must, but do what you did with the men's shirts and offer both relaxed and fitted styles. Bean's used to be my go-to place for clothes that fit, were made well and my style. Not anymore. Sorry Bean's, you are failing in the clothing department.
