Rated 3 out of 5 by Lizfrog Please bring back the original French Sailor Shirt
This style is NOT the shirt introduced 40 years ago! The original had a crew neck and long sleeves. I liked it so much because it was great for cooler weather! The new version is OK, but not the same! If people like the boat neck 3/4 sleeve version, why can't you offer the TRUE original as well? I have to search thrift stores to find my old favorite!

I Just bought a third one of these shirts. The fabric is a perfect weight: heavier than a tee, but lighter than a sweater. They launder beautifully. I love boat necks and this one is just wide enough. My only wish is that they came in solid colors and I'd be in for three more!

Rated 3 out of 5 by MrsJRaz Nice fit but a bit smelly
I received this shirt and two others. This shirt has a very offensive odor. I hope that it disappears when I wash it otherwise it will be returned.

Rated 5 out of 5 by LLBeanNYMom Great Cotton Shirt
Truly lovely and well-fitting. My daughter is 14 and she took the petite size small (she can also fit into kids size 14 or women's size S or extraS, depending upon the sizing). It was long enough for her but not too long, and thick like a sweater. We liked it so much we ordered another in a different color.

I always wanted to get this top. Ordered the first one in Navy/Cream and I was truly amazed at how wonderful it felt wearing it. It is not flimsy, the quality of cotton is substantial without letting you get over-heated. Loved it so much that I ordered a second one. I'm looking at them now, and contemplating ordering a third. I would like to also see these tops offered in solids & some prints. I hope you continue offering them. I highly recommend. Thank you!

Rated 3 out of 5 by wldflwr60 Burnt sienna, not so good
I'm returning this item because the color is so washed out it looks like it has been through the wash cycle 20 times. No vibrancy at all. The fit is also a little awkward compared to the French sailor's shirt with the 1/4 zip. The bust is tight. The 1/4 zip is more in proportion.

I bought a couple of these shirts in the spring and they are so comfortable. They wash nicely and don't shrink. Yes, as others have mentioned my bra strap peeks out occasionally but the comfort and quality make it a minor annoyance. I bought two more for the winter in the darker colors.

Rated 3 out of 5 by savvygrammyof11 Boatneck is unflattering
While I purchase many different clothing items from LLBean, I will not be purchasing this French Sailor's Shirt.Although I think they are very "cute," for lack of better word, unless you have a long neck, boatnecks are unflattering. They tend to chop off the line of your face and neck and accentuate a short neck. I am a slim person, but I have an average neck; therefore, I don't wear turtlenecks or boatnecks. They feel constricting to me.
The boatneck style has been popular for a few years now. Personally, I will be happy to see it go out of favor. LLBean, can you make a similar shirt in a V-neck??

Love the shirt except that my bra strap shows unless I pull it over and that makes it uncomfortable. It only shows on one side and I have a normal body shape.

Rated 5 out of 5 by PJams REALLY nice and an Unbelievable Value!
I wouldn't bother writing a review if this shirt wasn't as nice as it is. I don't purchase a lot of items from L.L. Bean, but I think I may begin to. This shirt is a heavier knit, like a light-weight sweater, not as I expected it to be a jersey knit or a tee-shirt knit. I can't believe they can offer a sweater of this caliber for $35! I purchased a Large and I'm 5'6, 38DD with a little bit of a tummy. The blouse length ends at the top of my thighs. I found the 3/4 length sleeves end approx. 4" below my elbows. If you're on the fence, buy it!
