When I saw these in the catalog I had to Chat with a Bean rep to find out how much they weighed-- about 3 pounds, she sed -- and yes they are lightweight (because of the Kangaroo leather, which is lightweight but STRONG -- baseball shoes were once made from them).
My feet are delirious with joy because these boots come in WIDE size. I can wear a thick sock in them (woolen of course).
The laces are great - and look strong.
They are very comfortable-- i am wearing them around the house to break them in. The only thing that needs improvement is the SOLE -- Vibram it is, but it is not as agressive as some of the other (non-LL Bean) Vibram soled shoes I have had (in fact THOSE other shoes wore out way before the Vibram did). I suppose when these soles wear out I will have them resoled with the more agressive form of Vibram -- which is very tenaciuos in snow and ice.
Other than that -- NO complaints-- the GoreTex should keep me warm and dry in the fierce winter.

I owned these boots for several years and used them several times in the summer. Last week I went deer hunting in West Texas for 2 days when the weather was rainy and below freezing. On our first deer hunt of the weekend after about 1 hour my toes started freezing and after another 2 hours when I was back at the camp I took my boots off and the boot soles and my socks were SOAKED WET. I hunted for another 2 days in these LEAKY BOOTS.

Rated 3 out of 5 by CSimp LLBean will fix a problem!
I ordered these boots for my husband & he says they are the most comfortable boot he's ever owned. The problem was that the lining started coming out after only being worn a few times turkey hunting. I should have returned them then, but didn't. He wore them to SD pheasant hunting, and the outside seam even busted. HOWEVER, after 2 years I have contacted LLBean, and since they have the BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER, they are replacing the boots after almost 2 years. Their products are usually so well-made I never have to return anything, but it is nice to know that if there is a problem, they really DO stand behind their products! The boot is being re-designed for next season, so they told me to call back next August and they will send me a brand-new pair. Can't beat that! Barring these problems, which I assume will be fixed in the re-design, these boots would have gotten 5 stars! I am still totally pleased, since LLBean will back their product. THAT is why I continue to shop here!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Hammerhead2012 Excellent boots
I waited a while before I posted a review . Boots are a great fit right out of the box. I hunt grouse and woodcock in northern Mi. In all kinds of weather specifically on many rainy days, sometimes it downpours I continue in the woods and these boots are 100 percent waterproof as well as light weight with the kangaroo leather. I've had other high end boots and did not perform as advertised . Thank you for a wonderful product that works!

I bought these boots last year and used them for grouse hunting every weekend from late September through the end of January. First off these are the most comfortable boots I have ever walked in, they feel like your are wearing sneakers. They stay waterproof as long as you continue to treat them, I used mink oil about once a month and my feet stayed dry. I did notice that if I did not apply the oil they would weap a bit and leave my foot slightly wet and clammy but not soaked. If the leather got a bit wet it seemed to stretch a bit, the side structure of the boot would leave extra room for your foot to slide arount a bit in the toe. Slick surfaces like wet snow make you wish the boot had more tread, but you might be trading this with the fact that this tread doesn't collect mud and weigh you down. One of the reasons I bought this boot is that it is incredibly light weight, which is much appreciated when walking the miles I do in thick cover. The cover I hunt is typical grouse cover, briars, brush and all manner of abrasive obstacles. In the end the kangaroo leather just did not hold up to the abrasion and wore paper thin in the toe and finally broke through and I sent them back. I did not experience any issues with the soles coming apart like some of the other reviews posted, but I also treated mine and focused effort on making sure the leather in the seams did not dry and become brittle. If you don't typically walk through highly abrasive environments all that often and want a lightweight, comfortable boot, buy this boot and treat it, you will be happy.

Ordered some on line and received in good time..
Didn't know what to expect with the markings on the boots..
Didn't realize that was just the way the hide is suppose to look.
Returned to the local store in Freeport and got another pair..
Got in my car headed out and noticed a split in the sole, that was too much to handle where they seam together.. Should have been in the seconds pile....Make sure you look them over good..
I Went back in the store and got another pair, with no questions asked.. Don't waste your time anywhere else because L.L.Beans
makes everyone Satisfied or your money back..Thanks

Rated 1 out of 5 Unacceptable
I purchased based on reviews and an online conversation with a LL Bean Product Specialist. First time I wore boots my feet were soaked. I was just walking in tall grass with a heavy dew. Second time the same thing. I am returning for refund. Product is not as all as advertised - i.e. waterproof. On the plus side the boots were very comfortable and fit like a glove right out of the box. Unfortunately, most dis-satisified with product quality not meeting advertised properties

by justpatch Best boots I've owned
I bought these boots about 4 years ago and used them daily from late fall until spring as an outreach worker to people who are homeless in Denver--it's a job that requires A LOT of walking each night. Also used them for upland hunting and 10 day elk seasons. The soles never fell off but I did just take them in to be re-soled from wearing down the original tread ($85 at Cobbler's Corner in Denver, on 17th St.). That gives you an idea of how well used they were. I did replace the original tread pattern with a different Vibram pattern with lugs. The original pattern could be slippery if there is a sheen of ice over concrete or hardpack dirt. I think the tradeoff will be in more mud accumulation during seasons that aren't frozen but are wet. I'm glad I could have them re-soled rather than purchasing another pair. I've put about four sets of laces, and now two soles into these boots and they just wear in better. Maintenance has included Sno-Seal waxing once at the beginning of the season, once in the middle, and once before putting them in storage in Spring. I use my wife's hairdryer to melt the wax rather than warming with an oven (unlike baseball gloves & other leather, rubber soles will melt in an oven).

Rated 2 out of 5 by NJHunter007 Great boot that unfortunately falls apart
Very comfortable and perfect size. Feels broken in on day one. Great for warmer bowhunting on stand, turkey hunting, and upland hunting. However, the sole falls apart within 2 years. Had two pairs, the first pair was replaced by llbean when the sole came undone. Now, after one year and less than 20 wears, the sole is coming apart at the seem. What a shame.
