Rated 5 out of 5 by Havelocksparky Comfortable out of the box
I had tried the Irish Setter Vaprotek and were some of the most uncomfortable books on the market for ME. First ordered size 11 Kangaroo too big, returned them, received small size and took them into the grouse woods for a morning walk. Waterproof so far and my feet had never felt so good. Time will tell with the tread but mud certainly does not retain on this tread and did not slip in the woods. I will always look to purchase first from LL Bean customer service is simply the best in the market.

Rated 4 out of 5 by SBMi Overall Great Durable Boot
I have owned these (non-insulated, gore-tex version) boots for over 2 years and have used them frequently for hiking, hunting, working around the house, and for everyday use. They have stood up well to rain and water without question, but when the snow rolls in, the soles are no help at all on icy surfaces.
The only noticeable wear on these boots after 2 years has been on the sole, which seemed to wear quite a bit faster than I had anticipated.
The fit (in my experience) was very snug (as in short on my foot), but over time, has become less so. I wear a size 13 and was surprised at how tight these where all around when I bought them, but figured they would break in after some use, and they have to some extent, but still don't really allow much toe room at all.
Very, very light, just as they are supposed to be, and continue to be a go-to on rainy hunts, hikes, etc.
I would recommend these - with the mention that in my experience they were a touch shorter than they should be for the advertised size - and avoid icy conditions when wearing them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by BeanLover83 Husband's favorite boots!
I purchased the gore-tex lined kangaroo upland boots for my husband last year during the fall. He wears boots daily during the year and his other boots are now in the trash after finding these! If you have wide feet or like to wear thick socks, be sure to get the wide width. My husband swears by these boots and says they are the most comfortable winter and work boots he has ever owned!
FYI.... Sometime during the winter months, the loop on the back of one of the boots ripped off, making it harder for him to pull the boots on. His size (12 Wide) was sold out online, so we waited until we traveled up to Maine this summer for a camping trip to exchange them. One day during our camping trip we traveled to Freeport for an exchange. None were available in store, but they ordered us a pair to have shipped directly to our house. They took back the pair with the broken loop and 5 days later, a new pair had arrived back at our door in Virginia. My husband was amazed at this quality of customer service! LL Bean rocks! And, my husband is a happy camper once again to have his favorite boots back!
Yes, these boots are expensive, but it is money well invested! LL Bean stands by their products!

Rated 4 out of 5 by tchunter Very good Boots
Used these through two hunting seasons now. Very durable, comfortable and they have maintained waterproof capabilities so far.
Only suggestion is that the boots be designed with a little better grip for slippery surfaces.

Rated 5 out of 5 by losman Best Boot I ever Bought !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I purchased the boot Men's Gore-Tex Kangaroo Upland Boots, Moc-Toe Leather Insulated back in 10/14/2011. I am a boot man, I purchased everything from Red Wing to Local chain stores styles this boot stood well above the rest they were extremely warm for the Buffalo NY winters. Not only are they good looking and well constructed. The only thing is They were a little snug ,the size runs a little small so order a half size bigger. The boots needed no time to break in they were comfortable from the start. after four years of constant ware the boot had started to leak. Now this is the good part.I called LL Bean and asked about their warranty I told them about the leak and they told me that if I am not satisfied for any reason at any time send them back. So after 4 years of wearing the most comfortable boot ever. They exchanged them no questions asked . So I returned them and I ordered a half size bigger. I have been through hundreds of boots in my life time, I will never buy a boot from any other company than LL Bean. Thank You There are not a lot of companies that stand behind their product like that. LL Bean you have a customer for life............. Can't wait to put them to work...

Rated 1 out of 5 by sniper1300 Poor boot
I needed a good boot for small game and spring turkey so I ordered these. The plus is they are light and comfortable. The negitive side is they leak and very slippery on wet ground. If I was only hunting flat dry ground they would be good.Wet grass and rolling hills make for wet feet and slippery mess. I'd be better off wearing sandals

Rated 4 out of 5 by Outdoors4life Good all purpose hunter
The boots feel broken in out of the box which was a pleasant surprise. They have served me well this fall. I have not had the opportunity to use them over multiple seasons so time will tell but I am overall pleased with the boot. The items that need to be addressed are that the laces need to be made more durable when used in conjunction with the speed lace hooks, and there should be another set of hooks instead of lace eyelets on 8" boots. i ave noted as in other reviews that the soles do wear quickly, but am chalking it up at this time due to LLBean attempting to use lighter weight materials in this style of boot. I have been able to fit heavy weight merino wool socks when white tail hunting this year, but one needs to realize that late season hunting in below freezing temperature you will still get cold toes when sitting with only 200 grams of insulation. As stated in the review title I feel that these boots should serve well as an all purpose hunting boot hopefully for years to come.

Rated 5 out of 5 by shambalad Handing them off to my nephew after 13 years
I bought these boots 13 years ago. I'm 61 years old, lived in snow country all my life, and these are the best boots I've ever owned. Very well made. It's amazing how much a difference the light weight makes when you're wearing a pair of boots all day. These boots can be a little warm for wearing inside, but I never suffered cold feet outside with them. A few years back, I had to take them to a cobbler to replace the soles because I'd worn them thin; but I got plenty of mileage out of the original soles and the replacements have been holding up well. I've never had any problem with the stitching. A couple of times a year, I'd clean them with saddle soap, go over them with some shoe polish, then spray some waterproofing on them. That's all it takes to keep your feet nice and dry. I'm moving to Hawaii, so I'm giving these boots to my nephew. If he takes care of them, I'd expect that someday he'll be able to pass them on to his son or grandson.

Rated 1 out of 5 by ohiobeanman Not what I was expecting in a Gore-Tex Boot
Over two years I had two different pairs of these boots. The original pair made it almost 1 year before the sole began to separate from the upper and water would seep in. The second made it about a year, too. And please keep in mind, I am walking the dog in these and occasionally wearing them to work (in an office). They are not being "worked" in by any means.
The fit is small. I wear and 8.5 W in New Balance/Rockport shoes. I had a 9.5 W in these, and with thick socks my toes ran right up to the end of the toebox. Even with regular hiking socks, these were snug. New, they were comfortable (once the fit got worked out) and looked nice with jeans.
However, for the price, you should never have wet feet. Ever. And especially not after 1 year of light use.
Returned the second pair for the classic Bean Boot. Granted, it doesn't have the same style, but I am certain I'll have dry feet when walking the dog.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Spiffster Great mud boots. Too slippery for winter.
These boots are SO lightweight and comfortable. They fit like sneakers from day one. The leather is attractive and durable -- these could generally pass for "old-style" boots if you don't like tromping around in something that looks like it was designed in the Space Age. They are waterproof and tall. Even in deep snow and sub-zero temps, my feet have always been warm.
However ... the soles are very slippery on snow and ice. These are great boots in the mud, and I believe that is what they were designed for. I just wish that I wasn't risking serious injury every time I wore them in the winter.
