I bought them a year before even trying them on. I ordered my size, 11, and thought they were a little snug. After wearing them 3 times, they were completely broken-in. I don't hunt or spend countless hours in he woods. But, I do my fair share of walking (several miles at a clip) through deep snow, slush, and mud. I've never had a problem in those conditions. I've had to be more careful on ice, but then again, I never rush around on ice. The greatest thing about these boots is that they are so lightweight that they wear like a sneaker. It's very easy to move in them without the clumping around that I've had to endure with every other boot I've ever owned. My feet have never gotten cold or wet.

Rated 4 out of 5 by BeSwift LOVE em, with a caveat..
Got these to replace a competitors kangaroo boots that I loved, but finally wore out. These LL Beans ARE an upgrade, with the Vibram outsoles..I wear em often, as I teach outside 20-40 hrs per month with Project Appleseed.
As others have said.. beware of these in icy conditions.. I've never had a pair of boots land me on my backside before, but these have done it x 3..These are NOT the boots you want in packed snow/ice..
Other than ice, for all other conditions, these are some of THE BEST and most comfortable boots I've owned... and that's saying something..
Tip: To increase longevity, coat the exterior front toe area with an aftermarket coating product for boots, that's similar to bedliner..Google away..

Rated 4 out of 5 by AllOutdoors22 Extremely durable boot, ALMOST perfect!
These boots are amazingly lightweight and durable. Had my first pair for two years with barely any sign of wear before I returned them for not being waterproof. They had not been for day one,...but I tried every waterproofing spray, crème, liquid I could find (because I love these boots so much) but to no avail. Got my second pair and they are waterproof!!! But 3 month later the seam inside in the back of the boot started to separate. So disappointed. If only these were made well in the USA! Great boot but poorly built! So sad.

Living in New England these boots are a must for me. Wet, cold, and Icy. Rubber soles, waterproof and light for a 16hr day. Easy to clean look professional and long lasting. These are the best boots I have owned in the past fifteen years. A coworker showed me his boots and I liked them and for A reasonable cost. The only problem is the soles can't be repaired.

When I saw these in the catalog I had to Chat with a Bean rep to find out how much they weighed-- about 3 pounds, she sed -- and yes they are lightweight (because of the Kangaroo leather, which is lightweight but STRONG -- baseball shoes were once made from them).
My feet are delirious with joy because these boots come in WIDE size. I can wear a thick sock in them (woolen of course).
The laces are great - and look strong.
They are very comfortable-- i am wearing them around the house to break them in. The only thing that needs improvement is the SOLE -- Vibram it is, but it is not as agressive as some of the other (non-LL Bean) Vibram soled shoes I have had (in fact THOSE other shoes wore out way before the Vibram did). I suppose when these soles wear out I will have them resoled with the more agressive form of Vibram -- which is very tenaciuos in snow and ice.
Other than that -- NO complaints-- the GoreTex should keep me warm and dry in the fierce winter.

I owned these boots for several years and used them several times in the summer. Last week I went deer hunting in West Texas for 2 days when the weather was rainy and below freezing. On our first deer hunt of the weekend after about 1 hour my toes started freezing and after another 2 hours when I was back at the camp I took my boots off and the boot soles and my socks were SOAKED WET. I hunted for another 2 days in these LEAKY BOOTS.

Rated 3 out of 5 by CSimp LLBean will fix a problem!
I ordered these boots for my husband & he says they are the most comfortable boot he's ever owned. The problem was that the lining started coming out after only being worn a few times turkey hunting. I should have returned them then, but didn't. He wore them to SD pheasant hunting, and the outside seam even busted. HOWEVER, after 2 years I have contacted LLBean, and since they have the BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER, they are replacing the boots after almost 2 years. Their products are usually so well-made I never have to return anything, but it is nice to know that if there is a problem, they really DO stand behind their products! The boot is being re-designed for next season, so they told me to call back next August and they will send me a brand-new pair. Can't beat that! Barring these problems, which I assume will be fixed in the re-design, these boots would have gotten 5 stars! I am still totally pleased, since LLBean will back their product. THAT is why I continue to shop here!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Hammerhead2012 Excellent boots
I waited a while before I posted a review . Boots are a great fit right out of the box. I hunt grouse and woodcock in northern Mi. In all kinds of weather specifically on many rainy days, sometimes it downpours I continue in the woods and these boots are 100 percent waterproof as well as light weight with the kangaroo leather. I've had other high end boots and did not perform as advertised . Thank you for a wonderful product that works!

I bought these boots last year and used them for grouse hunting every weekend from late September through the end of January. First off these are the most comfortable boots I have ever walked in, they feel like your are wearing sneakers. They stay waterproof as long as you continue to treat them, I used mink oil about once a month and my feet stayed dry. I did notice that if I did not apply the oil they would weap a bit and leave my foot slightly wet and clammy but not soaked. If the leather got a bit wet it seemed to stretch a bit, the side structure of the boot would leave extra room for your foot to slide arount a bit in the toe. Slick surfaces like wet snow make you wish the boot had more tread, but you might be trading this with the fact that this tread doesn't collect mud and weigh you down. One of the reasons I bought this boot is that it is incredibly light weight, which is much appreciated when walking the miles I do in thick cover. The cover I hunt is typical grouse cover, briars, brush and all manner of abrasive obstacles. In the end the kangaroo leather just did not hold up to the abrasion and wore paper thin in the toe and finally broke through and I sent them back. I did not experience any issues with the soles coming apart like some of the other reviews posted, but I also treated mine and focused effort on making sure the leather in the seams did not dry and become brittle. If you don't typically walk through highly abrasive environments all that often and want a lightweight, comfortable boot, buy this boot and treat it, you will be happy.
