Had to return the first pair and get a wide size. Had no problem returning them at and they ordered me new pair. Wish I had known they had to order them since I had a code for 20% off. Got them in two days no problem with shipping. So far they fit nice seem to hurt a bit around the ankle maybe once they are worn more.

I really want to love these boots. They're comfortable although the sole is a bit stiff. They seem pretty rugged. But they are not waterproof. I contacted the maker about proper care for them, but no matter how many times I condition the leather and apply 'snowseal' waterproofer, they leak. Even two days afterwards. The lining and inner material has started separating from the boot. I have had them for about 6 months hoping that each waterproofing will do the trick but to no avail. Not what I expect from a $250 boot.

The trick for any new boot is to get them very wet, then the leather will stretch to conform to your foot. I feel for the people who didn't go through this necessary step before returning to Bean. I am a carpenter who has worn these boots everyday for over 3 years. They are the most comfortable boots I've ever worn and have definitely stood the test of time. I am sure I can squeeze another year out of them, but my wife thinks they look a little beat at the moment. These boots represent money well spent.

Rated 5 out of 5 by UpstateNYHandyman Workboot that fits and is comforable
It's been a long time since I have had a workboot that is this comfortable, and also functional. Quality workmanship and the Vibram sole made this an easy choice for me. The tread has an excellent grip and the leather is of the highest quality. I'm on my feet most of the day at work and already my legs aren't achy and tired, and the pain in my feet from just standing for long periods is no longer there. Thank you LL Bean! Money well spent, I just wish I had purchased these workboots sooner, ..... much sooner.

I can not say enough good about these boots. The leather, inside and out, is 1st class. Both are glove soft, which makes the breakin time nonexistant. The first time I slipped them on I knew they were quality, actually, it was as soon as I picked them up. I've had custom made boots before & these are right there. They will keep you warm and dry....I've used them for 3 months in New England winter weather. Plus, they are made in the USA!

Rated 2 out of 5 by cuyamacawoods short laces
Received the boots today and seem to be good quality but, at this price point they should provide laces of proper length. Laces barely make it to the second lug from top. Will need to purchase new ones locally just to wear the boots. What's up with that LL Bean?

I have only been wearing them a week and at this point they really feel great and will get better as they break in....the only issue I have it that there should have been boot straps to help get them on and the laces are too short...had to purchase a pair.
The people at LL Bean and the company are the best in the world to work with.........I love LL Bean!

Rated 3 out of 5 by jaymorgan Painful fit
I ordered these boots with great anticipation. I am a long time L. L. Bean satisfied customer and these boots looked like they just might last me the rest of my days. They arrived and were true to the pictures and description. Very well made. They just did not fit. My normal shoe size is 9 1/2 EE. The boot fit fine from just below the ankles just not above. There was only enough leather to barely overlap the tongue. I almost ran out of lace! I am a big guy at 6'1" 275 but my ankles don't have that much gain. Also I could barely force my foot into the boot. Even before lacing, the leather over the top of my arch was painfully tight. After what lacing I could accomplish saying it was painful was an understatement. The pain around my ankles was overwhelming. Loving the boot still (I know, I know! I fell in love with the boots!), I returned them for another 1/2 size larger. A 10 EE. They were only very slightly better. Still difficult to get on and still most painful. The "lasts" that these boots are constructed on must be for a lot smaller boned people. I have never had a problem with boots fitting before this pair. They are being returned to give the upland boots a try. :( Wish me luck!
