Rated 5 out of 5 love the peacoat
I bought this flattering coat last year and have another in my shopping bag. The dry cleaners had no problem with stain removal. The coat looks brand new, despite a lot of wear, which I attribute to the high quality wool. The shoulders fit perfectly. I have large arms from body building and am pleased that the sleeves fit. I got many, many complements and I'm happy that LLBean is offering it again.

I ordered online and ordered size 12. It is a beautiful coat but as others stated it was tight across the shoulders due to the arm holes being so high and tight. Brought it back to the store and tried the 14. Same problem. Tried a 16 and there was little difference. I have never worn a 16 but it was the most comfortable in the shoulders but too big everywhere else. So sad as I really wanted this coat.

I bought the predecessor to this jacket at least 30 years ago. I wore it happily for about 20 years until one of my daughters "borrowed" it, and it has been MIA since then.
I have shopped for similar jackets, but none of them compared to the quality and comfort of this one.
I think buying a coat every 30 years is all the recommendation one needs!

I am so pleased with this coat. The color (crisp lapis) is a beautiful bright blue. Simply stunning! Fits perfectly. Very warm. Love it!

I have 3 Pea Coats now. Last year I bought 2 x 16 Regs one in Navy and the other in Cayenne. Both lovely colours. Recently because I have lost weight I bought a 14 Reg in Navy. The one significant problem I have had from the beginning with all of these coats is the armholes. Sitting in the car I am most uncomfortable and I couldn't work out why. I'm a sewer and it certainly seems to me that the armholes are cut too shallow and could be a little more generous to allow movement. The armholes could also be positioned a little lower to stop the collar riding half way up my head. I've gotten into the car and made sure I pull the coat down so it doesn't ride up, but it always does and that is very very annoying and uncomfortable. I feel as if I'm in a straight jacket. I'm pretty disappointed about this problem. I'd love a solution. I also have an llBean raincoat and furlined coat for cold days in the playground and wear them without a problem - I love them in fact. Please re-draft the armholes for us, I know it can be easily fixed.

It's all in the fit. My regular size was tight at the waist and hip and the shoulder space would not have allowed for any significant layering. Beautiful red wool and nicely constructed but it had to go back.

I first purchased this coat in black then took a risk on the stone when it was a daily special. I'm very happy I did. This coat is very well made; I was especially impressed with the welted pockets, an unusual detail in a coat any time, but particularly at this price. I also like the fact that it's lambs' wool when so many coats I see today are synthetic/wool blends with wool being the least of it. I ordered a 12P even though a 10P would have fit because I like a bit of extra room in my coats. I hate feeling restricted in the arms and shoulders. I don't find the cut boxy; the fit is subtle but I see that as the nature of a pea coat.
The stone color is ideal for those who want a neutral tone but don't look well in camel or tan. I find it difficult to describe but light dove gray with a slight rose undertone is as close as I can come. I have a lot of plums, burgundies, deep royal blues, charcoals and blacks in my wardrobe and it's perfect for those colors.
My only concern about this coat is the short-staple wool, as a longer fiber would be less susceptible to matting. So far no problems and I decided not to reduce a star for a problem that hasn't occurred yet, especially given LL Bean's great warranty.

Rated 4 out of 5 by platypod Lovely coat. But the armholes?
This is one heck of a lovely peacoat. Very well made, tailored. But as many other reviewers have reported, the arm holes are 1. too small and 2. too high. It is as if the designer of this coat thinks ladies have sticks for arms. Sadly I had to return mine. Please do something about the arm holes, please! If this minor (but important) complaint is addressed I will be first in line to buy next years model.

I love this peacoat! It's deceivingly warm; most people ask if I'm chilly wearing it but I never am. It's hard to find a coat that is warm and attractive but I think this one does it. I wear it everyday it is cold but not snowing out, as it is not waterproof.

I'd like to give this coat 4.5 stars, but since that's not an option, I'm happy to round up. This coat is beautiful, and very well made. It's worlds above some of its competitors for coats in this price point. The wool is soft enough to be worn against sensitive skin. The stitching is strong. The buttons feel very secure. The pockets are roomy. As some reviewers have noted, the fit is a tad bit boxy, but I still find it to be a feminine fit. The looseness in the abdomen section gives me layering options, so I'm fine with it. It's not as light as down, but it's weight isn't noticeable once it's on.
The coat is very, very warm. I went for a walk in it today in 32-ish degrees, wearing a button up, a light sweater, the coat and a scarf. After walking for 20 minutes, I had to take the scarf off. WARM.
Two points that could be a drawback for some:
1) The sleeves are too short for me. I'm used to sleeves being a bit short (I'm 5'8" and a size 2/4), but these are above my wrist bone. I'm taking the coat to a tailor to get the sleeves let out as much as possible, but there's not enough fabric there to get the sleeves to my thumb knuckle where they ought to be. Not a deal breaker for me, but it might be for women who have longer arms than I have.
2) I got the color "stone," which is a beautiful shade of gray... in most lights. In certain lights, it has just a hint of lavender. It's not a lavender coat, but if you hold it up next to another true-gray fabric, the lavender tint shows. This also isn't a deal breaker for me - in fact, I happen to like the color very much - but it wasn't what I was expecting. Just a heads up.
All in all, I really like this coat. I was looking for a warm alternative to my closet full of black coats, and I think I've found it.
