Rated 4 out of 5 by Tuscarora Beautifully made---sadly too large
Bought this for my daughter. Loved the classic look and the lovely loden green color. High quality fabric and construction. However, even the size 4 petite was way too big in every way---the sleeves especially were extremely long, it really didn't seem like a "petite" at all. Sadly, we had to return it.

I bought this coat to replace my old pea coat that finally wore out. It is very well made. Best of all it is not a heavy coat--weight wise. Some winter coats weigh so much they are uncomfortable to wear. Not this one. But it is nice and warm. I found it to run true to size. I am short so I bought petite. The sleeve could have been a quarter inch shorter for me, but it will keep my wrists warm.
I would recommend this coat. I bought it in navy blue, because that is peacoat color to me. It is a true navy.

I bought this item overseas and am not happy with the final result. I ordered Raspberry, because on the page and catalog it looks red, however, when I received it, it looks extremely pink. Also, I bought the smallest size and it is huge. Would not recommend, very disappointed.

I read some of the reviews about ordering one size up, I did actually order size 6P my normal size and I'm glad I did because it's just fit right and a room for layering. By the way I love the navy color, very stylish, you can wear it with skirts and jeans.

Rated 5 out of 5 by TheBookseller Wonderful Coat
I haven't ordered from L.L. Bean since college (20 years ago), so I relied on the sizing guidelines provided. Mistake.
The coat itself is wonderful, and I'm glad I bought it, but I went through 3 sizes before I had the right fit.
I'm 5'4", 125lbs, with a 37 chest measurement, and the regular coat in 6 is perfect for me.

I love this coat. The color, loden, is beautiful and it's so soft. I wanted another duffel coat like the one I bought here years ago. The current version doesn't work for me but it's a still a gorgeous coat. I bought my normal size rather than sizing up and it fits perfectly. I couldn't be more pleased.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Doggerfolk Beautiful Coat!
I read a number of reviews before purchasing this coat. As recommended, I bought a size larger than normal and it fits perfectly. I'm 5'10" 150# and it is often hard for me to find anything with long enough sleeves. This coat has wonderfully long sleeves and is slightly large so that bulky items can be worn underneath. I can't wait to wear this coat! I live in Oklahoma where the winters are not terribly cold until you add the wind which makes the cold very biting. I highly recommend this coat!

Ordered this on a Tuesday and received it that Thursday. How's that for quick service?!
I am very pleased with this purchase. I was wowed by how beautiful this coat is in person. The wool is extremely soft. I chose the navy blue for a classic look.
I am 5'6",130 lbs and the size 4 fits to a T. I can wear with a thin or thick layer underneath.
One of the pockets was sewn shut upon arrival. I was nervous while taking the stitching out as I was afraid I may damage the coat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by KSmith792 Great coat!
I must say, I LOVE this coat! I had originally ordered this in a size that was too big, so I called L.L. Bean and did a "QuickExchange" on Friday. They told me it would be here by Tuesday, and it actually ended up getting here a day earlier than expected. The correct size ordered fits absolutely perfectly, and the material is wonderful. The wrapping was fantastic because they wrapped each button individually. I am very pleased with this product, and I look forward to using it for this winter and many more winters to come! I also look forward to ordering more products from L.L. Bean. I already made quite a long wishlist! I highly recommend this coat to anyone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by ClairBear226 New Coat Compared Directly To Old, Side By Side
Like a previous reviewer, I was looking to replace an LL Bean Lambswool Peacoat that I had purchase in 2011. Now 4 years old, my old black peacoat is still perfectly serviceable, and will continue to be used for some time to come. However, it is looking a bit tired after 4 years of Chicago weather, and for work, the first impression I frequently make with clientele is while I'm still bundled up. Therefore, I decided to replace it for work, and will continue to wear my old one for every day trips to the store, dogwalking and such. .
My new coat arrived today (a day earlier than predicted). Based on prior reviews, which had given me pause, I decided to directly compare the two side by side. The coats are both the same size, and only vary in color, since I went with the Loden this time. My new coat arrived as the previous one had, packed in a flat box neatly lined with tissue paper, with each and every button carefully wrapped in tissue to prevent scratching. Side by side comparison proved the same quality in fabric, the same attention to detail in workmanship, and the same overall quality.
As for the fit, both coats are a 3X. The MINOR, incremental difference in fit, I think, can be attributed to the fact that my old coat is well broken in from years of heavy winter use. Otherwise, I noticed no difference in sizing, including in the arms and chest. Mine is a straight cut, and very flattering. The new coat is somewhat more stiff, but again, the quality of the lambswool is quite high, and will likely be broken in with time, just as my old one has. On careful inspection, right down to checking the seams, the new coat appears to be every bit of the quality I've come to expect.
Living in Chicago means we are no wimps when it comes to winter weather. If I had not been very happy with my previous coat in how it held up to that weather, I never would have come back for another. It is a good, classic, well made, warm winter coat that is worth every penny paid. In four years, I haven't had so much as a button come loose. The double breasted style with a collar that will fold up to protect from high wind is perfect for our weather. I do a lot of driving for work, and this length is very comfortable for driving.
Obviously, I can't attest to the warmth of the new coat until it's been through a winter. It was too warm to wear for long in an air conditioned house, though, and has the same weight as my old one with the Thinsulate lining. The shade of green was something I wasn't sure about, and I nearly chickened out and bought the navy. It's a very pretty shade of green, though, and I'm happy I chose it. Thanks, LL Bean. Keep it up, and I'll see you again in another 4-5 years!
