Ever since I got this coat, it has been my go-to for both work and casual use. It is soft wool, and has a nicer look than I'd even hoped. I hesitated as the price, even on sale, is still higher than some other similar coats, but I've had great experience with LLBean backpacks and lunchboxes for the kids, and it is great. The only issue -- if there is one -- is that it is a tiny bit tight under the arms, but I think that helps the look.

I needed an in-between coat for those days when a down coat was too heavy but a fleece was too light. I ordered the Classic Lambswool Peacoat in black. I tried it on-- sleeve length was good, chest/body was good, but the armpit areas were very tight! I couldn't cross my arms in front of me so I wouldn't be able to drive in this coat. I had to return it. I'll keep looking for another in-between coat.

I initially tried the polo and did not like the style - it was also too big. So I ordered a size down for the navy peacoat. It's perfect for everyday, casual wear with jeans on the weekends. I just ordered a second one in black to be my work coat. I can't wear jeans to work and this coat in black will be dressy enough for a polished, professional look.

I ordered this coat in my usual size 6, but on arrival, it felt tight across the chest and buttoning the neck closed was impossible. I am 5'6" and 130 pounds, with a thin frame. The body of the coat was okay, actually a bit large across my waist and hips, so I was afraid the 8 would be too large, but I took a chance and ordered an 8.
The 8 was huge through the body, but the chest and neck were exactly the same as the 6. I even measured them with my sewing tape. Not a whit of difference across the shoulders. Yes, the label did say size 8.
I am not sure what is going on with the sizing on this item, but it is clearly not accurate.
As for the fabric, it is very coarse and uncomfortable. Visually, it does not look like a very fine weave, which causes the coat to look a bit cheap.
I realize this may not be LL Bean's fault, but when the size 8 arrived, the single small piece of tape holding the box closed was torn as was the plastic bag holding the item. The item itself was dirty, but otherwise undamaged. A little more tape may have addressed this.

I purchased the navy blue Classic Lambswool Peacoat in size 4. It fitted beautifully, is well made and it is lovely and warm.

The coat is lovely and appears to be warm, but I didn't try it outside because I couldn't get it on without taking layers off. If you generally don't need extra layers when you're inside, I would recommend trying this: it might suit your needs, but my workplace is cold, so this isn't a practical coat for me. I need a coat I can wear over a thick sweater or sweatshirt. I normally wear a size 16 and even bought the 18 anticipating the need for extra layering space: no dice. It's going straight back to Bean.

Stacys Cannot bear Pilling/Fuzzing/Matting
This would be a great jacket in all respects IF its fabric didn't pill, fuzz and mat so easily. I'm surprised I didn't see more reviews citing this as a problem. A few, but just a few. I didn't expect this kind of condition from an L.L. Bean garment but at least they have an honorable return policy. I have been so satisfied with other L.L. Bean products over the years. I tried my best to photograph the condition but the lighting is tricky. Purchased it in late October and have worn it daily.

This coat exceeded all my expectations. It fits perfectly and keeps me warm in the winter. Ordered my regular size petite 8 and fits over sweaters without being tight. It is classy and stylish without being stuffy. It is my favorite coat!

This coat was to be a mid-weight coat for my wife. The materials and construction seem to be good, but the style is not as tailored as I thought it would be from the picture. Its a bit boxy and oversized. We'll return it and try for something else.
