Rated 5 out of 5 by KSmith792 Great coat!
I must say, I LOVE this coat! I had originally ordered this in a size that was too big, so I called L.L. Bean and did a "QuickExchange" on Friday. They told me it would be here by Tuesday, and it actually ended up getting here a day earlier than expected. The correct size ordered fits absolutely perfectly, and the material is wonderful. The wrapping was fantastic because they wrapped each button individually. I am very pleased with this product, and I look forward to using it for this winter and many more winters to come! I also look forward to ordering more products from L.L. Bean. I already made quite a long wishlist! I highly recommend this coat to anyone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by ClairBear226 New Coat Compared Directly To Old, Side By Side
Like a previous reviewer, I was looking to replace an LL Bean Lambswool Peacoat that I had purchase in 2011. Now 4 years old, my old black peacoat is still perfectly serviceable, and will continue to be used for some time to come. However, it is looking a bit tired after 4 years of Chicago weather, and for work, the first impression I frequently make with clientele is while I'm still bundled up. Therefore, I decided to replace it for work, and will continue to wear my old one for every day trips to the store, dogwalking and such. .
My new coat arrived today (a day earlier than predicted). Based on prior reviews, which had given me pause, I decided to directly compare the two side by side. The coats are both the same size, and only vary in color, since I went with the Loden this time. My new coat arrived as the previous one had, packed in a flat box neatly lined with tissue paper, with each and every button carefully wrapped in tissue to prevent scratching. Side by side comparison proved the same quality in fabric, the same attention to detail in workmanship, and the same overall quality.
As for the fit, both coats are a 3X. The MINOR, incremental difference in fit, I think, can be attributed to the fact that my old coat is well broken in from years of heavy winter use. Otherwise, I noticed no difference in sizing, including in the arms and chest. Mine is a straight cut, and very flattering. The new coat is somewhat more stiff, but again, the quality of the lambswool is quite high, and will likely be broken in with time, just as my old one has. On careful inspection, right down to checking the seams, the new coat appears to be every bit of the quality I've come to expect.
Living in Chicago means we are no wimps when it comes to winter weather. If I had not been very happy with my previous coat in how it held up to that weather, I never would have come back for another. It is a good, classic, well made, warm winter coat that is worth every penny paid. In four years, I haven't had so much as a button come loose. The double breasted style with a collar that will fold up to protect from high wind is perfect for our weather. I do a lot of driving for work, and this length is very comfortable for driving.
Obviously, I can't attest to the warmth of the new coat until it's been through a winter. It was too warm to wear for long in an air conditioned house, though, and has the same weight as my old one with the Thinsulate lining. The shade of green was something I wasn't sure about, and I nearly chickened out and bought the navy. It's a very pretty shade of green, though, and I'm happy I chose it. Thanks, LL Bean. Keep it up, and I'll see you again in another 4-5 years!

I usually love LL Bean products but this was not a success. I bought a pea coat from them several years ago and wore it to death & I was trying to replace it. The 8--the size of the coat I bought last time--was way too big. I tried the 6 but it was tight across the bust. I also found the coat shorter and it belled out in an "A" shape at the bottom in an unbecoming way. The old coat hung straight down and was very flattering. The fabric was also stiffer than the coat I was trying to replace which was a perfect weight and a nice fabric. The new version just isn't as nice as the one I had bought a few years earlier, not to mention neither size fit well so I returned them both. Back to the drawing board.

Rated 5 out of 5 by SisterPrayalot I can't wait to be able to wear it!
Reading previous reviews, I ordered the coat one size LARGER than what I normally wear; it fits perfectly! Other reviews mention that the armholes are too high. I did not notice this with my purchase. Perhaps these "buyers" didn't order one size larger!

Rated 5 out of 5 by LongTimeLLBean It's Beautiful
I'm in FL, so it might seem strange to buy a winter coat, but it's for a vacation trip later in the year outside of the tropics! :) I would not purchase winter gear from any place other than LL Bean!
This is a beautiful coat, the lambswool is as soft as a kitten! The pockets are cozy and very deep and will make great handwarmers.
The fit is true to the size chart.
I'm a bit sad that I'm not able to wear it now. Spring in FL is already 80 degrees.

Rated 5 out of 5 by LongIslandViolet Soooo Soft
I usually order a size 14 in outwear to have enough room. Last year I ordered this jacket in a size 12 because that's all there was left and the reviews said it was oversized. Well, the size 12 was too tight and I had to return it even though I did love it. This year the only size left on sale was the stone at size 16. Well, I decided to give it a try and it is perfect. So you need to order a size up. It is so soft and the quality is unbelievable. I love this jacket and I would never have ordered the stone color but I love it. I am so glad I took a chance on the size and the color.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Tiredofmallshopping So disappointed......
After reading the reviews I decided to order a size up (due to comments about small armholes) - the jacket arrived today, the (blue) color is beautiful, the jacket appears to be well made but the sleeves are too short! I do not have long arms! I can't understand why it would be such an odd fit - it will definitely be going back.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Motochica Love this coat!
I have been looking for a peacoat all winter & finally found the perfect one! I love the soft fabric, Thinsulate lining and comfortable fit. I bought the Crisp Lapis & have received many compliments. Great pop of color for winter instead of black, navy, or gray. Looks great with jeans or dress slacks. I am soooo happy!

Rated 4 out of 5 by Modelmom14 Looks nice. Arm holes small.
The overall look of this jacket is classy. However, the armholes are either small or cut too high. The bottom of the arm hole digs into my armpits.

Rated 4 out of 5 by JerseyGal A good all-purpose coat
I enjoy this coat for its versatility whether dressing up or just doing errands. I agree with other reviewers that the armhole openings are a bit too high; lowering them would give a better fit, but I can live with it. Not bad enough to return it. It is warm, the lining is so smooth, the details are impressive (love the nautical buttons), and I am pleased with my royal plum color choice. If the cut could be improved I could give it 5 stars.
