Rated 5 out of 5 by OleGrunt Pack wearing Marine
The Marine slang term for infantrymen is "Grunt" hence the nickname. In 1969, I wore a pack for six months leading Marines in combat, so I claim that makes me an expert on packs.
This is a comfortable riding pack and that is not always true since I am a big man. To save your back, a pack should ride high on ones shoulders and this does it.
The layout of the compartments are well thought out for convenience and security of valuables.
I saw a review where there was a complaint that the material is too stiff. My solution is soak the pack in water to get the sizing out. It is put in by the manufactures to make it easy to sew. Make sure to rinse after soaking to all of sizing off the outside.
The handle also makes it easy to lift up into the bin on airplanes. This is my new carry on bag.

Ihave not had a chance to use this product but I will be going on vacation next week and will use it at that time. It is a good size for my purposes Not too large but will hold my 15" Mac Noter
book. I also like the side zippered side pockets Great for charger, poin and shoot cameras, ect. I have been an LL Bean customer for many years and this rucksack looks like a quality product

Rated 5 out of 5 by TriadBeanShopper Great Travel Bag
Bought this about a month ago. So far, it's been great - easily fits under an airline seat, which is a huge advantage when one flies on the employee plan (agents LOVE to enforce bag size restrictions on non-revenue pax). Can fit a weekend's worth of clothes and other essentials inside.
Not cheap, but you get a quality pack - exactly what I've come to expect from Bean.

Rated 5 out of 5 by cantpickaname What I wanted
I was looking for a bag to carry papers and my laptop as I walk every day to and from work (about a mile each way).
I am still getting used to the pockets, etc, but overall it is just what I wanted. It seems a bit heavier than my old bag, but it seems to have more pockets for things like my glasses, my phone, my calculator, my wallet, my water bottle and a snack. I had read that the velcro to hold the computer in place was too short; I agree. I had also read that the clasps were not great quality. I am finding clasping and unclasping them a bit tricky when I am in a hurry so I tend to leave them undone.
Love the color (I chose brown) and the leather trim. Makes my bag stand out from the children's Bean Backpacks!

Rated 4 out of 5 by Active70 Sportsman's rucksack
The rucksack is a very good size for my frame, 5'2, the arrangement of pockets, sippers, clasps is just what I was looking for.
I use it as purse and day pack for travelling all over the world.
Large enough for raincoat, small tablet ,knitting, kindle and
snacks. Side pocket for water bottle is great.
The only concern is the stiff material, I hope it will soften with time.
Overall, I love the rucksack.

The buckles are plastic. Cheap quality. Material thin. Certainly not worth the price. My biggest disappointment from Bean ever.

Rated 5 out of 5 by CallieR WOW!!!! Great Backpack!
This backpack has been what I've been looking for school/college. I wanted something unique looking but yet classic and this fit the bill. The fabric was sturdier than I expected which is great. Past reviews had talked about the laptop velcro strap being too short. It fit my 13" Mac Air perfectly, but anything thicker I now see would be a problem.
Other reviews had mentioned that straps on the front were faulty but mine are working great with no problems so far. Oh and I have to mention that the placement of the shoulder straps are a bit wide, so for those small shouldered people it might not fit well. ( Lucky me I have wide shoulders for a woman ).
I would recommend this for a friend and this backpack should last no problem through college this coming fall.
Thanks LLBean for an amazing backpack!!!

I prefer to travel by Amtrak, and I needed a sturdy and attractive backpack to take to the room. This one is perfect. After a couple of years of use, it still looks brand new. I have had no trouble with any of its parts, despite my tendency to overpack it. I like it so much, I just bought another one for my husband for Christmas. He will carry it on non-business flights. The laptop pocket would make it appropriate for casual business or student use as well.

Rated 2 out of 5 by PrepLaw One Major Flaw
I needed a professional looking backpack for law school, and this one fits the bill except for one major issue: the clasps for the buckles on the front of the pack. I've been in class for less than two months, and I've already had them fail on my original bag and on the replacement. This seems to be a design flaw, LL Bean! At least they're good about returns. I just wish they had more bags that were both professional looking and had the capacity for my computer and all my textbooks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by SeekChic Good College Backpack
Such a good-looking, sturdy, water-resistant backpack. Pocket for everything. Pouch for a water bottle. Yay! I'm using it for college - it fits my 12"-screen laptop just fine, but I can see why people would have trouble with bigger laptops.
I have gotten so many compliments on it, it fits all my books with no worries of ripping or breaking. The zippers glide smoothly so far. Nice job, Bean. You did not disappoint.
