OK, so went to this with a more 'relaxed' fit after the Trail Model "Traditional Fit" XL turned out too slim(205lb/44 chest). Same size in this was waaay too big through the body. Returned for a L, which although is a bit snug seems to work. Very thin fleece compared to the Trail Model, don't like the elasticized cuffs, small chest pocket or 2-tone zipper flap but it seems to do the job cutting the wind and is very lightweight. Actually a little warm in 60' weather. Have yet to test in a drizzle so that will tell the tale. Jury's out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by DLCMA1089 Great Fleece - performed as advertised
I wore this coat on a very rugged hike in Blue Hills MA today (Feb 13, 2016); temp was 18, wind blowing. Started out with heaviest base layer, sweatshirt, 300 weight fleece, and LL Bean fleece as outer layer. Got too hot so took off under fleece and kept Bean fleece as outer layer. Hiked ~4 miles to 500 foot hill that is bare on top. Wind was gusting @ 20 - 30 MPH and Bean fleece performed as advertise - I was fine. Coat was terrific in the wind and on the way back I unzipped because I was getting too warm. Only downside, coat is not very breathable - but I bought it for its wind-stopping ability and warmth and it performed as advertised. Very satisfied customer!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Giamo Epic Jacket for all purposes
I bought this jacket around 4 years ago and I love it. I've worn it on cold windy days, I've gone camping with it, and climbed a mountain wearing it in the snow. Its good quality, warm, breaks the wind very well, is waterproof, and has a lot of useful pockets.
Before I went camping I wanted to test the water resistance. I pored water on it for about 3 seconds and i was perfectly dry. I wouldn't submerge it in water but it is very resistant.
Negative: Sparks from a fire will easily burn this jacket. I have a small whole because of this.
I wore this jacket with a layer of thick under armor and a long sleeve. This jacket kept me warm hiking Mt. Monadnock when there was snow on the mountain and at the top the winds were about 60 mps and I was warm. Really good jacket for all purposes. Love the cords inside of it to sinch the waists, the cuffs on the sleeve keep the warmth in and there are 5 pockets which is plenty of space to hold stuff. plus 2 lightsaber pockets on the inside. LOL idk what these are actually for.

Rated 5 out of 5 by cbHoo Excellent Midweight Fleece
This is my 2nd Wind Challenger Fleece Jacket and it is still one of the best on the market. The size and fit is comfortable, and the windbloc feature makes this a warmer jacket than most fleece when the wind kicks up. My only nit - the interior is now a smooth finish so the fleece feels thinner than the past but I still prefer the brushed fleece feel of previous models which gave it a warmer/thicker feel. Still a great jacket nonetheless.

This coat is extremely lightweight, extremely comfortable and extremely warm. I wore it when the temperature was about 30 degrees and it kept me warm. Hand pockets are good sized and the top outer, zippered pocket is large, yet unobtrusive, and can hold a wallet, a passport, cell phone, travel documents, or almost anything of similar dimensions. The weight-to-warmth ratio is astonishing. I give it my highest recommendation.

I've got two Wind Challenger jackets and love them. I like the baggy fit, it allows moisture to stay away from under layers and the trapped air keeps me warmer than a tighter jacket would.
I decided to order a third one and since I have a red and navy I ordered the current green one. The color does not look anything like the online image and I returned it immediately.
LL Bean, this is a great jacket, please offer it in more colors and make sure your photography is accurate.

by Lovemycanvasshirts Hemlock is an awful color
I purchased this as a replacement for a fleece I bought several years earlier from LL Bean - a heavier fleece than this Wind Challenger. I'm disappointed that LL Bean does not still carry a heavier fleece (and I know this Wind Challenger fleece, as I already have one.) My gripes: this hemlock color is awful, just awful. Not anywhere as dark as online. More like a lime green, and surely the nastiest green I've seen in a jacket. It was an immediate "NO" - and will be sent back for return. Secondly, this Wind Challenger is just not heavy enough to offer "complete protection for cold, windy weather" as advertised. It does have a nice windproof lining, but this fleece is not a cold weather garment. It's just not that beefy. I had hoped that that had made this jacket heavier wince I last purchased it (5 years ago?) but it really is just not a full "cold weather" fleece. Best for spring or fall.
I've got other Wind Challenger fleece jackets. And they are high quality. Just know what you are getting: not a beefy jacket and apparently you need to beware of the color accuracy as listed online.

Rated 2 out of 5 by dbelling Very poor zippers
I purchased one of these several years ago and it has performed well. No problems so far. I purchased a second one in a different color a year or so ago, but they must have cheapened the jacket because it is no longer of the same quality. A few months after I bought it the zipper on one of the pockets broke. There was no way that I could repair it so I sent it back for replacement. I have worn the replacement very little, but now one of the pocket zippers has broken on that one as well. I have purchased many LL Bean items in the past and I have never had this problem before. It is not as if I stuff the pockets. The only item that I had in the pocket that broke yesterday was a piece of kleenex. If this is how fragile the zippers are I am not sure that it is worth it to send it back for another replacement.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Bemused How to make the zipper last
Love Bean windbloc fleece! Darn near perfect Wyoming coat. This is my fourth windbloc item.
Problem is, the zippers fail. Have had zipper problems on 3 out of 4 windbloc items.
But I've found a solution. Take a candle and run it up and down the zipper. This will stop the binding for a while.....then do it again.
This is a good interim solution until LLBean starts incorporating better zippers.
