Don't do it! Just don't order this little item in Green - it's a very odd color that looks sort of like a mix of a wilted spring onion and a rotten lime. Yep about that inviting. It hurts your eyes. Best worn in the dark. The fabric is rubbery without actually being rubber or fleece - neither fish nor fowl. Just not a good idea to order this. I got mine today and within minutes of opening it, bagged it right up to send back for a full refund. It was on sale - now I know why. My family thinks that Bean wasn't able to get the good colors for this jacket unless they agreed to buy this very sickly 'make-you-look-ill-green. And as someone who's favorite color is GREEN, I take offense to this strange beast of a color even daring to call itself green. OK, I've ranted on long enough. Just don't buy this.

This is a nice jacket, very well made like an LL Bean product should be. It's warm, easily into mid 30's weather with light layering. It's very windproof.
My only issue is the sizing/cut of the jacket. This is very snug in the shoulders and arms when compared to an older LL Bean wind block fleece I have. The older model has much more room in the shoulders and arms so that when you move the sleeves aren't being pulled way up on your arms, and it's a lot easier to wear layers. The newer model has a lot less room, I can only layer a couple of t-shirts under it.
Open up the shoulders and upper arms and this would be a great jacket. As it is, it's a good jacket.

Rated 2 out of 5áby dh65 Not very breathable
This jacket fits nicely, is fairly warm, and does well in the wind. But it's not breathable enough. It's currently 44░F, 38░F with the wind chill factor, gusts up to 26 mph. I went for a 10-minute walk and stayed warm, with only a T-shirt under the jacket. Despite the lack of drawstrings, the hood stayed on, though the wind was mostly at my back. But my arms got clammy and as soon as I walked inside the jacket felt oppressive and I had to take it off right away. That's fine if you're home but if I had been walking into a store or getting into the car or something, I wouldn't have wanted to have to strip the jacket off immediately. Most likely, this jacket is going back to L.L. Bean, despite the huge discount I bought it at ($40).

Rated 5 out of 5áby LLBeanOutdoorClothing Comfortable jacket!!!
I could not resist the jacket on sale for under $50 in the Crisp Lapis/Cayenne color. The Wind Challenger jacket is so comfortable to wear.
The sizing of the jacket has changed. I am 5' 7", but have big shoulders, so I take size large in the LLBean sweaters, and 850 down jackets and 850 down sweaters. I purchased two Wind Challenger jackets five years ago in size large. When I purchased the Crisp Lapis/Cayenne jacket, the size large was way too big. I returned it for the size medium.
LLBean usually only has the deep discounts when a color is being discontinued. With the price of $49.99 for the Crisp Lapis/Cayenne color, it is an unbelievable bargain!!!
I love wearing this jacket out on a walk under my 850 down jacket. I stay super warn.

My son (17) needed wind-proof outerwear for the walk to school. He layers this with a thick fleecy sweatshirt and it does the trick. Perfect warmth and wind-reistance without a huge coat to lug around! (for reference: We're in NYC - it gets pretty cold)

Rated 3 out of 5áby ParkSlope Can't cinch hood
The hood is loose. This would be okay if you could cinch it. But you can't. If you are walking into the wind, it comes in around your head. And if walking into a stiff wind, it will blow the hood right off your head. You have to cinch it with your hand.

Rated 4 out of 5áby PierFisherman Nice hoodie
I would have rated this hoodie as excellent, but I've had some issues. It would be great if the hood had draw strings. I had to return the jacket because the main zipper got tough to draw. The customer service is excellent and I received a new jacket, but then on the first use, a pocket zipper broke. I was able to fix it, but I hope that L.L.Bean will look into this.
Over all the jacket is warm and the wind proofing is excellent. It is used as a mid layer under a shell or as a stand alone.

Rated 5 out of 5áby skidogger still looks new after 4 years
I've had a wind challenger hooded fleece jacket for 4 years now, and it still looks new, even after repeated washings. The fleece does not pill, and is not quite as much of a pet hair magnet as traditional fleece. It is rugged, durable, and definitely warmer for weight than traditional fleece. Even though the hood doesn't have a draw-string, I have not found it to blow off as long as I wear a baseball cap underneath. It is also a great piece for layering, and functions as a soft shell. I like mine so much, that I have ordered another in a different color.

Dealing with LL Bean is so nice. When I ordered and paid for this item I made a mistake with the exchange rate. When I telephoned the people I talked with were so nice - many thanks!
This item arrived on Tuesday 10 November - quickness of delivery is just stellar.
My husband tried on his new Wind Challenger Hooded Fleece Jacket and the fit was perfect. The next day he wore it on his walk to work. The weather was just miserable with rain and wind. When he got home from work at the end of day he gave the new jacket the thumbs up all round. It's very warm, windproof and the rain didn't soak through.
An excellent product!

Rated 4 out of 5áby PinchersofPower Very good, but needs improvment
Fit overall is good.
Polartec Windbloc: Great material. Breathable, but it bucks the wind. This jacket is fairly water resistant too. Near perfect 3-Season jacket.
Cuffs: Not my favorite. They are a high quality elastic. Great for quickly sliding over gloves and long sleeve shirts. I don't like the look. I would rather have a cinching cuff of some kind. Velcro would be ok with me.
Hood: It bucks the wind, if you can keep it on your head. There needs to be a draw string of some type to tighten it up.
Great jacket for the price.
