Rated 5 out of 5 by DavL Decided to keep it - great coat
I'm 5'11, with a 40" chest and a 33" waist. I bought this coat because the coat I wanted was out of stock. The reviews seemed good, so I ordered a Small. I'm definitely a small - a medium would be an extra large on me compared to other clothes. It's pretty boxy, and I didn't like how stiff it was. It's decently warm for something without down, and kept me "okay" in single digits, with a decent amount of layering. Then the jacket I originally wanted came back in stock, and I was planning on exchanging it and ordered the other jacket as well. Apparently, this jacket really grew on me, and I decided I wanted it around even though I'll likely wear the other hooded down LL Bean parka more often. So thanks LL Bean, now I have two winter coats.

Rated 5 out of 5 by tonyvldz Great coat
I recently moved and I wanted a warmer coat than the one I previously bought from LLBean. I only had to take the train prior to my move and now that I have to take a bus to the train having this coat for those really cold days is surely an advantage. I would recommend it highly. As a matter of fact, I was bummed out early in the season because they had run out of it in all of the stores, it was not until after the holidays that I was able to get it in my size, and that's only because I looked at the website everyday twice a day for the coat. It is warm, and easy to wear. I do not find it heavy at all, although I know some people have complained about it.

If you live up North where winter winds blow hard, and you order it a little larger than normal, you'll like it. We don't need that much winter protection in WNC so it was returned.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Frustratednewyorker Extremely warm with the worst zipper
The Nor'easter is the warmest coat I have ever owned, this is my second coat, however, this $250 coat has the worst zipper I have ever seen, hard to pull up, hard to put together to zip and even more difficult to pull down to try to take the coat off. I have used the two way zipper twice, each time I had to take the coat off over my head and use pliers to pull the second zipper down. I cant believe Bean would produce such a wonderful coat with such a poor zipper.
If you don't want to zip up, okay, buy this coat, otherwise, look elsewhere.

Rated 2 out of 5 by BoonieSuturedoc Bad outweighs the Good
Looks good, very warm, well made.
Weighs a ton. Hard to get into because of the rough, plaid fabric in the upper interior. The suede-like outer shell in my dark jacket shows every bit of lint and is impossible to brush off. Very stiff so requires extra effort to drive a car.

Rated 3 out of 5 by king555 too padded
I bought this as a weather-proof commuter coat for my husband. It is much more padded than I expected, more like a parka, and I think that probably he won't like it when he opens it tomorrow. I expected the insulation to be much thinner and high-tech, but it's old-fashioned quilted padding. It's a nice coat, but not for the purpose he needs it for. I expect I'll be returning this item for that reason.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Ruttemer Long fits me well.
I ordered in kahki and did not like the color. Returned item and was told it was available in black L which is my size, and I ordered it. I then received a call that the coat was no longer available in black and asked if I would accept in dark blue which I did. Subsequently. it occured to me that the coat might be available in L/Long black, and it was so I ordered it, but was sent L/Long in dark kahki by mistake. So then I had two coats to be returned, and I finally received the L/Long in black. It was worth all the trouble as I love the coat. It fits well, is warm and has plenty of pockets. The L.L.Bean people with whom I did all of these in's and out's were pleasent and understanding.

This coat is too heavy and bulky. I returned it and exchanged for a Baxter State Parka. The quality of that coat is far superior.

First, I retuned a Baxter State parka that I love but has been discontinued and, as advertised, LL Bean gave me credit even though I purchased more than 5 yrs ago., the cuffs had become frayed. The coat I purchased does not quite measure up to the one I returned. Zipper is difficult to work and the fabric is not as soft or "flexible". It does keep you warm and is good looking , I Guess I was spoiled. But it will keep you warm and dry
