Rated 5 out of 5 by Disconcerted Good looking coat keeps you warm and dry
I bought this commuter coat for my husband to replace the last llbean commuter that he wore for at least 10 years. He wanted the olive/ loden colour he had before but your colour range is quite narrow so he chose the navy. Looks good! Excellent styling. Gor-tex is great against our mean Canadian winters. He loves the useful pockets found throughout the coat. Two way zipper is hearty and very useful for the commuter. Roomy enough for a business jacket or sweater.
Only complaint comes from me - would like one for women.

This coat is exactly what it claims to be, a great commuter coat. Lots of pockets, a two way zipper, warm and waterproof. The Thinsulate lining makes the coat heavier than a down coat and the zipper can be fiddly. LL Bean gets so much right but zippers are their nemesis. For driving, this coat is less bulky than the Baxter State Parka.

This purchase was to replace a lost coat. The original Nor easter was a great value.

Rated 5 out of 5 by DavL Decided to keep it - great coat
I'm 5'11, with a 40" chest and a 33" waist. I bought this coat because the coat I wanted was out of stock. The reviews seemed good, so I ordered a Small. I'm definitely a small - a medium would be an extra large on me compared to other clothes. It's pretty boxy, and I didn't like how stiff it was. It's decently warm for something without down, and kept me "okay" in single digits, with a decent amount of layering. Then the jacket I originally wanted came back in stock, and I was planning on exchanging it and ordered the other jacket as well. Apparently, this jacket really grew on me, and I decided I wanted it around even though I'll likely wear the other hooded down LL Bean parka more often. So thanks LL Bean, now I have two winter coats.

I recently moved and I wanted a warmer coat than the one I previously bought from LLBean. I only had to take the train prior to my move and now that I have to take a bus to the train having this coat for those really cold days is surely an advantage. I would recommend it highly. As a matter of fact, I was bummed out early in the season because they had run out of it in all of the stores, it was not until after the holidays that I was able to get it in my size, and that's only because I looked at the website everyday twice a day for the coat. It is warm, and easy to wear. I do not find it heavy at all, although I know some people have complained about it.

If you live up North where winter winds blow hard, and you order it a little larger than normal, you'll like it. We don't need that much winter protection in WNC so it was returned.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Frustratednewyorker Extremely warm with the worst zipper
The Nor'easter is the warmest coat I have ever owned, this is my second coat, however, this $250 coat has the worst zipper I have ever seen, hard to pull up, hard to put together to zip and even more difficult to pull down to try to take the coat off. I have used the two way zipper twice, each time I had to take the coat off over my head and use pliers to pull the second zipper down. I cant believe Bean would produce such a wonderful coat with such a poor zipper.
If you don't want to zip up, okay, buy this coat, otherwise, look elsewhere.

Rated 2 out of 5 by BoonieSuturedoc Bad outweighs the Good
Looks good, very warm, well made.
Weighs a ton. Hard to get into because of the rough, plaid fabric in the upper interior. The suede-like outer shell in my dark jacket shows every bit of lint and is impossible to brush off. Very stiff so requires extra effort to drive a car.

Rated 3 out of 5 by king555 too padded
I bought this as a weather-proof commuter coat for my husband. It is much more padded than I expected, more like a parka, and I think that probably he won't like it when he opens it tomorrow. I expected the insulation to be much thinner and high-tech, but it's old-fashioned quilted padding. It's a nice coat, but not for the purpose he needs it for. I expect I'll be returning this item for that reason.
