This coat is extremely well-constructed. Definitely will keep you warm. Have worn in very cold conditions of zero degrees and windchill factors of -20 waiting for bus and walking to/from work, walking the dog.

I just bought this coat for my son for Christmas. My son who grew up in Florida just started college in Canada and was unaware of just how cold and dangerous -16 degrees is. His flight arrived late, so his connections there were delayed and he ended up standing outside in the cold -16, and windy weather for well over an hour. Luckily he had just received this coat. He commented that the coat was very well designed with lots of pockets inside and out that were well thought out and appropriately placed and kept his ungloved hands warm. The inside pull to ensure the waist area fits correctly was a nice touch to make the coat even warmer and less bulky. The longer length is not only warmer, but looks very professional. The coat is very heavy and warm without looking bulky. The hood is designed well and is detachable. All the zippers and snaps are sturdy and look and feel like they will last a long time with no issues. We are very happy with our purchase and would highly recommend this coat!

Rated 4 out of 5áby WAKO4 NUMEROUS IMPROVEMENT ONE DOWNSIDE IMO
This is the third Commuter Coat I have owned over the past 20 plus years. Overall, I still like the coat. The zipper is improved over previous coats I have owned. I like the pockets having more secure closures (e.g. snaps or zippers). I wish the interior pocket was similar to the previous model: one, with a zipper and two parallel to the exterior pocket. Finally I don't like the addition of the flannel to the upper interior portion of the coat. It makes it more difficult to get on and off.

Rated 5 out of 5 My Salvation From Canada's Arctic Blasts
I have never experienced cold like I have the three winters that I lived in Ottawa. I thought I knew cold, growing up and living most of my life in the Mid-Atlantic region, but I knew nothing about cold once I moved to Ottawa. This coat was my salvation. It stood up to -40C temperatures that froze my lungs when I was foolish enough not to wear a scarf around my mouth or a balaclava. The rest of me was toasty warm, however. The jacket was too warm, in fact, when the mercury rose above freezing into the 40s (F). But in miserable, freezing cold with snow, sleet, and freezing rain, I felt almost invulnerable when I had my commuter coat on with my great waterproof boots and ear muffs. I was actually looked forward to getting out in all kinds of weather when I had this coat.
I especially liked the well thought out zippers and pockets with room for my bus pass, mittens, and scarves with easy access. There was even a convenient pocket to roll up my newspaper after I got off the bus and was walking. I also liked how they had zippers to allow easy access to my wallet without having to undo the entire jacket and allow the cold in.
Many folks in my office had Canadian Goose down parkas that were five times the cost of this one. I thought the LLBean commuter coat was a far superior product for wearing with business attire and it cost a fraction of those coats.

To whom it may concern:
If you are looking to be warm this winter. Then buy this coat. Here in Columbia Missouri, we have weather -10 to 32 during the heart of the winter and I honestly can tell you that this coat really works.
It is a stylish horse blanket that won't let the cold air in.
I do caution you though that the coat is heavy, but it needs to be to do its job. I am a student at the University of Missouri and I say that buying this coat will make my winter more bearable.

Rated 5 out of 5áby TropicalView I┤ll never be cold again
I give high marks to this winter coat. In fact I found what I've been looking for for years: a coat that could keep me warm whatever the severity of the winter.... I am originally from a tropical country where the avergae temperatures are in the 70s/80s all year long. Iíve been living in the US for 19 years and can't get used to the northeastern par of the country cold snaps. My first three years I lived in Cambridge, Massachusetts. After my Ph.D program and finding a good job in New York City I was hoping the weather would be more forgiving than it is in the Boston area.
That did'nt happen! New York winters can be bad, really bad. Walking on the city's streets and avenues you fell like you're in cold windy canyons. My new Nor'easter Commuter Coat protect me from the freezing winds. I feel like I am in a warm protective cocoon. It may be true that the coat is a little heavy...but if that's the only negative one can find it doesn't really matter. After wearing the coat a few times I didn't feel its weight anymore...

I bought this coat the end of last year, finally got the chance to use it this season as this is not the coat to wear when its 35 degrees out. This coat is for nose hair freezing weather. It's not slimming, it's not fashionable, it's heavy and bulky BUT it is hands down the warmest coat I have ever owned.

I am from Arizona and was back in D.C. a fews weeks ago and it was freezing! First thing I did when I got home was head to the computer to order a Nor'easter Commuter Coat, as I have a return trip planned for January. Thanks to L.L. Bean, I'll never be cold again!

Over-all, not a bad coat, but it is way too heavy! The front zipper is hard to get started. The pull cord on the hood is hard to use.
