Rated 1 out of 5 by cathync poor quality on Royal sSewart
I own this nightgown in all 3 colors. The red and the blue are nice. The Royal Stewart is just about a rag right now. I have worn it and washed about 3 times. I purchased it less than 6 months ago. Not worth the money.

I took a flyer on this when I wanted to replace my previous Bean flannel nightgown, with which I was quite happy, if not deliriously so. I wasn't sure about the color(s) of the plaid, which look pretty dour in the photo, but I knew I wanted a long gown and not a calf-length one. As soon as I got it, I was thrilled, and even more so once I put it on. It's really soft, both inside and out (my last one was softer outside than inside - go figure), and tho' not heavy, it's very cozy. And the colors of the Victorian Stewart are much nicer in person - not nearly as dark as the online photo - the red and tealish green are much more prominent, balanced by the cream background, and black, dark green & yellow in finer lines. I'm very happy not to have to buy a gown in pink or purple or pastel flowers. It might be nice to have the option of a Lanz-like dark flower pattern on a cream background, but this is fine for now...I'm tempted to buy the Black Watch version too - it looks rather murky in the photo, but if it is also brighter in person, I think it would be beautiful!

I purchase one of these tartan nightgowns every couple of years or so-they last forever, wash and wear incredibly well and are very comfortable. They don't ride up when you're sleeping either! The Scotch plaid is gorgeous, too, on the Victorian one.

I bought the L.L.Bean red plaid gown many, many years ago and wore it every winter for at least a few weeks. This year I noticed the elbows of my gown were getting thin, and even had a few small holes, so I decided to get a new one. Black watch plaid was available in my size (no red plaid). Price was up $20 from previous purchase ($39 a long time ago). I was able to make my purchase during a good sale including free shipping. I have worn and washed it a few times and it has stayed very soft and cozy. No pilling after washing X 2. It fits like my old one. The color is not as cheerful as the red plaid, however, with this good quality and my age, this should be the last flannel nightgown I will need to purchase. Thanks L.L!

I've been buying Bean's Vintage Flannel dobby gowns for years and finally decided to try the Tartan gown. I like it even better! It is soft, warm, and comfortable. At first, I thought the gown would be too warm, but after a couple washings, the fabric feels perfect and increased in softness. I also like the fact that the Tartan gown has an inner facing across the back of the shoulders; the dobby gowns tend to wear out first around the back of the collar due to the looser weave, the pleating, and lack of the inner facing (That's after about 2-3 years of wear!). This gown may wear longer or at least wear more evenly around the upper body than the Vintage. I wash my Vintage gowns on hot and my dark Tartans on warm. I also throw them in the dryer and haven't had any noticeable shrinkage although the first Vintage ones I bought, when they were first featured, did shrink in length. LLBean must have improveved them since that time. The fabric and workmanship of both are just tops all around except as I mentioned above. I think Bean's photo makes the Tartan look as if it might be somewhat unattractive, which kept me from buying it at first, but not so! I'm a small but I always buy the large size in gowns because I like a very roomy fit. Even so, the Tartan Flannel Gown looks great. My first purchase was in 2011, another in 2012, and I'll buy a third this coming fall. I highly recommend you try one. I love lounging in this gown, but I still won't give up the Vintage Flannel; both styles are the most comfortable gowns I own.

The stitching across shoulders is a little tight for me, but due to overall fit and wonderful softness I'm KEEPING IT! I love the blue-green plaid too!
I put on without even washing! I know if problems later, LLB has such a great return policy I won't worry about it if shrinks or stitches are too tight after washing!

Bought for christmas gift to me and I am so thrilled. I'm 5'6" and this is the first flannel nightgown that actually covers my ankles and is long enough for my arms also. I can't say enough about the double brushed flannel, so soft right out of the package and no measurable change after washing. I have not noticed any problems with pilling .

One of those rare commodities these days, a full-length flannel nightgown. This is the third one of this style from Bean's I've had, having worn out two others after many winters' use. Great fabric and comfort.

The fit is comfortable and loose. It's very warm, and the flannel has and keeps a nice soft hand, even after washings. I bought one last year, and got another this year, I may add another, as my older nightgowns finally give up the ghost. It's a keeper, if it wears well.
