I recently bought this watch to replace the Suunto Sahara Core watch, because of the better display. The Sahara is a black display with gold figures and hard to read in a dark atmosphere. So I opt to buy this product and have not taken it off since I got it. I'm fomular with the Suunto name and they always treated me well. As far as the watch itself, it's very confortable to wear for a big watch. Time keeping is excellent, the other options compass, barometer and etc. Have worked and as accurate as I need them to be. I found the instruction sheet to be abit confusing at times, but I worked thru it. I use the Sahara now for when I go out, it's alittle more classy looking than the Core Regular. There both excellent watches. JAR

Suunto sports watches--they like to call them "wrist computers"--are the most accurate and consistent gear of this type and price point. The Core watch has a great feature with its Alti/Baro tracking that shifts between the two based upon your preferences: one of which is an 'auto' feature that goes to altimeter if you are on the move and going up and down...and then shifts to barometer when you are at a relatively consistent altitude or at rest. This is really a plus, especially because once you've calibrated, it will stay spot on. I've checked mine against far more expensive and known-to-be-accurate devices and the Core (and all Suunto watches with alti/baro) are always spot on.
Two flaws:
One is the display. Avoid the reverse display. You will find this hard to read in bright sunlight at its default settings. There are hacks that allow you to recalibrate the contrast (check online). The "back lighting" is not all that bright or distinctive, either.
Two: This is a big one if you actually use your "wrist computer" outdoors where you may be exposed to heavy rain, very wet conditions, or on the water (like sea kayaking). These watches are very water resistant and even waterproof, AS LONG AS you DO NOT depress ANY button while watch is under water or is covered with splash drops and there is a chance water next to the depressed button will (and it WILL) enter the watch housing. You may know this has happened if your interior display is foggy from condensation. If it's from salt water, you're hosed---it will corrode and fry your watch. The ONLY Suunto sports wrist computer watch (otyer than their diving computers) that does protect against all water intrusion is their special military version of the XLander. Not just the All Black military-looking version.
The watch is light, comfortable, and exceptionally reliable. I find the display size of the read outs to be large enough to read w/o my reading glasses...big plus in the field.
The bezel ring is a bit chintzy and scratches easily and seems fairly superfluous--more for looks than use.
When you replace the battery, do replace the o-ring seal, too.
Again, Suunto's spot-on accuracy makes this watch a useful instrument.

Really accurate; it can measure the difference in altitude between the upstairs and downstairs of my house. The display does not bother me as the other customers have complained about. Had it for six months now and it still looks brand new even though I wear it everyday.

I really wanted this watch to work for me. The price was great and the features met all my requirements and more. However the reverse display, (black backgound with yellow-ish numbers is VERY hard to see indoors). Suunto got the display all wrong. Gladly, LL Bean stood behind their product and accepted my return with no problem. That said, I think LL Bean should really review each item they plan to sell. If it's not good, don't try to market it; that just wastes everyone's time, makes for unhappy customers, and cost money shipping items back and forth. Suggest a good marketing review before these items hit the catalog. I'm sending this rather strong message to LL Bean
because the dial really is that dim; it is ok in bright sunlight but is VERY hard to ready indoors or dim light conditions. Marketing research should have picked up on this very quickly. If nothing else, sell the standard black numbers on a white background... they do make that.

I love everything about the watch except for one thing - the time or the numbers need be brighter than what it is. It is difficult to see at night and during the day time. Make it more brighter so that the number are visible enough to be seen just like in the picture.

This watch does it all! It is officially my favorite for everyday, formal and informal.
It tells you where you are, altitude, weather, barometer....etc.
It has held up so far to shock, hunting, salt and fresh water with out a hitch.
Anyone purchasing this device will not need another device.
