Rated 5 out of 5áby OkieFlier Outstanding Reel
I now have four of the Double-L reels. A #1, 2 and 3. Smoothest reels I have used to date. Very reliable and highly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5áby RapFlyFisher Great fly reel!!!
Just got the Double L #2 in the mail today. Totally blown away with the quality. I do not think any other reel is near as good at this price. I can not wait to try it out this Spring! The finish and over-all apperance are outstanding. There is no "slop" when the spool joins the body. The metal handle is geat. My more expensive reels have plastic handles. Not a big thing, but a very nice touch. I am VERY satisfied with this purchase. I will get another one for my 4 weight. Keep up the good, quaility work LL Bean!!!

Rated 3 out of 5áby BPCaster Great reel, but......
I have 2 #3's and 2 #2's and use the 3's in fresh and saltwater. I've had to return 1 of the 3's after very light use due to a failure. The drag knob continued to get harder and harder to turn until it completely froze. LL Bean's return/replacement policy is fantastic and I have a new replacement but getting a bit worried about the longevity and quality of this reel.

OK.The good...i love LL Bean, the customer service is a 10. That's why its so hard to write this review, but I feel compelled to do it...so here it goes. I am on my 3rd Double L reel. LL Bean has replaced with no problem and I am happy about that. The problem I have with this reel is that when wet or soaked, the drag system make this squelching sound and in one case froze up on me.... I fish in all weather conditions and need a reel that can take being in the water. Before the last trip I soaked the reel in water for an hour... checked it out worked fine, but three days in rain it started again.... best described as a "squelching sound " the drag was inconsistent......as i write this review my reel is in a bowl of water in order to recreate the conditions I experienced on my trip. If it does it again Im done with this reel and returning it with all the extra spools... again i hate to do this as under normal conditions it works beautifully .... I gave it a two only because its a great reel in most conditions..

Rated 5 out of 5áby BoulderFlyFisher Superb Reel
The Double L Fly Reel has exceeded my expectations. This reel is better made than my $300.00 reel from another manufacturer. I am blown away by the quality of this reel. The small details of the reel are also impressive, including the metal reel handle, the subtle, easy-on-the-ears, sound of the drag as it is engaged, and the beautiful color of the reel. I would recommend this reel to everyone who fly-fishes. As a fly-fisher with 20 years of experience, this is the best reel for the price that I have ever come across. Well done LL Bean.

Rated 5 out of 5áby Beantripper Double L Mid-Arbor Fly Reel #1
This reel is scaled nicely to fit lighter weight fly rods. Very smooth action with easy to grip drag adjustment-attractive bronze-gold color. Good value at this price level.

Rated 5 out of 5áby MayFly One great reel, better than more expensive reels
I have a more expensive reel, but I bought this one as a back-up. Now I use the L.L. Bean Mid-Arbor Reel all the time, and leave the other in the fly fishing bag. Its action is smoother, it tolerates dirt and water well, and it's also a very nice-looking reel.

I have purchased two Double L Mid-Arbor reels, the #1 and the #3. In addition, I am currently thinking of getting the #4 for 10 weight. I have dozens of reels and the Double L Mid Arbor reels are my favorites.
The #1 is probably overkill for most of my fishing as I've never had to use its sturdy drag on anything yet. I use the #1 for 3-5 weight. I can use DT for 3 and 4, while only WF for 5 weight. Besides my 8.5' 4 weight LL Bean Travel Series rod, the reel balances my 7' fiberglass extremely well...and it looks great!
The #3 has seen use primarily for my Double L 10' 6-weight fly rod. This is my primary outfit for wading the local ponds and lakes for bass. The reel balances the rod perfectly and, did I mention, it looks great! The powerful drag works exceptionally well when fighting larger bass and carp.

Rated 5 out of 5áby thereviewer56 Awsome, #1 worked for 5 wt fly line for me.
you may wanna know -I got the #1 loaded it w 5 wt. line, 5 wt still gives you a reasonable amount of backing on the #1 reel (guess 50 or more yards of backing on wf 5 wt.
This is a georgous reel- you will not be dissapointed- looks waay better than photo.
drag is very silky smooth, no stiction at all, clicking is very very quiet, tolerances and spinning balance are perfect.
nothing needs improving here! very very good value.
I do have a less expensive stream light(older version)- so will compare
lstream light vs double l both-great reel. drag wise, spin wise cant tell the diff, just slightly more "plasticy". The older streamlight is a much louder reel (clicking when stripping) than the double ll, which is very quiet.
also suspect the double ll is more serviceable and drag longer lasting looking at pdfs- know the innards are very different-but is a guess.
basically double ll is quieter, all metal, and way prettier.
suggestion-if you will fish the reel more than a week a year, dont sweat it, just spend the extra $30 get the double l as it is a real jewel and will make you smile a bit more and you wont regret spending the extra $ for something that should last a while.

Rated 4 out of 5áby Jport #2 Double L Reel
I am extremely happy with this reel. I bought the 9' 5 wt. outfit in March and this reel pairs very well with the rod. I am an avid fly fisherman and have really put this reel to the test over the past 2 months. The sealed drag is excellent for a reel in this price range and the construction and quality of materials seems to be exceptional.
One thing I have noticed is that the line on the reel, which came pre-loaded when I received it, is tight-fitting when fully reeled in. The line rubs against the frame of the reel. I haven't noticed the line abrading and doesn't seem to be compromised. However, this doesn't affect the performance of the reel while actually fishing.
