I just returned from an 8 day, hut to hut back pack in the White Mts of NH. As anyone who has been there will tell you, the Whites are the hardest mountains to climb anywhere. Boulders, rocks, cliffs, bogs etc are continually in your path. I am 57 years young and these poles were with me the entire way. In spite of banging them, leaning on them constantly, catching them in holes between rocks and under roots, dropping them down cliffs so I had 2 hands free etc, they stayed strong and straight. The handles are comfortable however I did have to occasionally push the strap pin edge back into the handle. My hands stayed comfortable and did not blister with the cork handles. A wonderful product! My hiking companion put rubber tips on them for me before we left and I strongly recommend this addition in the Whites!

I am 81 & use a cane in the house, but I like to use the walking stick when I am outside because they make me feel more balanced & also enable me to stand up straighter.
I use them every day when I walk 300 feet to the mailbox or go for a little walk in the woods which surround my home in the beautiful Georgia mountains.

Rated 4 out of 5 by litoguti The expanders are a bit flimsy
These are great poles! There is a design issue, I believe, with the expanders. Fortunately, Dana at the Product Support Department was very helpful; he knew exactly what I needed and is shipping a couple of replacements for me. That is good service and LLBean is living up to its reputation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by ProductReview Excellent but I'm not an AVID hiker
These poles are great for the regular hiker....can't rate for a really tough hike but for what I've used them for they are outstanding. Love the handles (right word?).....they fit into the hand perfectly. For what we do I couldn't have made a better choice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by wfm1 Great poles
I have used them three times so far, for about 20 miles and all in the mountains over rocks. I could not be anymore satisfied with them. Light with comfortable cork handles and good straps. Try them and you won't be disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by FiftyYearBeaner Easier walking
After recent spine surgery, I relearned how to walk, albeit somewhat clumsy and not with speed. A neighbor mountaineer suggested walking sticks (he has used his 20 years), and pointed out that LLBean poles are of the same Austrian heritage as his own. Order arrived quickly and poles were easy to adjust to the proper length and proper handle strap snugness. The old gentleman was correct -- easier and faster to walk with improved balance (and thus far better exercise) even carrying a small backpack (mail, few books). Legs now stronger, daily walks are longer, and my dog is happy to have me back in action. These poles are excellent value, easy to setup, strong, secure and light weight -- and will likely last 20 years as well. Recommended.

This is our second pair and as I get older the more dependent on these to use while hiking. Give great stability both on uneven terrain and level. Strong sturdy construction and good material. Light weight and easily transported.

Rated 4 out of 5 by kitycat Great for hiking
I used the hiking poles for the first time on an eight-mile hike yesterday. They made the hike much more enjoyable and comfortable, especially when ascending and descending. However, I noticed at the end of the hike, one of the poles was missing it's rubber tip, and the metal was exposed. I'll have to find a replacement tip for it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by ravencall Just what I needed
I wanted hiking sticks, not for heavy hiking but for my long walks near home. These were the inexpensive sticks but I really can't see why I would want anything else. When I walk with my dog I use one - it helps with balance on bumpy, narrow trails and a frisky strong dog on leash. When I'm without my dog I use two and feel as if the sticks take on half of the work that my body does, especially when going up or down inclines. I forgot them when taking a long walk last week with a friend and was I sorry!

Rated 4 out of 5 by Shae great for hiking not so for snow shoeing
These work well for hiking/walking. However, the snow baskets fall off in the snow. I've had to retrace my steps to find the baskets buried in the snow. 0(
I ended up snowshoeing without the baskets. Very tiring.
