The rucksack I purchased is great. It has a drawstring at the top and I can fit my square lunch cooler, water bottle and more in it, It has flaps over the drawstring top that you can snap shut. It has a zipper compartment on the outside that I use to store my bike cable and lock. It's perfect for biking to and from work. I used it biking to and from work to carry my lunch and other thiings, I'm happy with my purchase

This item has exceeded our expectations (we purchased two) Order was executed and delivered promptly, quicker than our expectation.
My only issue with the item is that is was larger than expected and that is great.
We use these to carry lunch and water to work every day. After work we use them to carry grocery purchases we have made. It is amazing what can be carried, and how comfortable it is slung over the shoulders.
An example that can make this use understandable is a load of 5lbs of ground beef, 5 cans of tomatoes, chillie mix, plus my lunch box and three water bottles (two with contents). With all that a 1/2 mile walk home was as easy as it gets after 8 hours on your feet.
When new bookbags are needed for my high schoolers, this will be it.

A comfortable, easy to use rucksack. Holds a sizeable amount of gear and the side pockets work great. Use it all the time, for travel and hiking.

Rated 5 out of 5 Day Pack
Great pack, light, well made, strong and comfortable to carry. The two side pockets have a draw string to secure them tight, in addition to a regular strap. The main compartment is the same with a draw string but two straps.
There is also a convenient, orange and flexible canvas handle at the top of the pack if you just want to move the pack a few yards.
And their is a strap that lets you secure the bottom of the pack to your waist. Together with the shoulder straps, it won't be falling off.
It easily fit my micro four/thirds camera and a GPS in the large back pocket, but I am sure you could fit a DSLR and maybe another telephoto or zoom lens there.
I only wish it had an insulated pocket to keep a drink or lunch cold, but you can always buy one if you need to.

Will use it to lug my stuff to the beach.
Looks like a great bag for a decent price.
I wish the bottom was padded. I'm adding a sheet of packing foam to the bottom to cushion items when I set the bag down; cameras binoculars, radio etc.

I love the fact that LL Bean still makes a classic rucksack. The main compartment opens wide and is big enough and deep enough to hold lots of gear, food, etc. The main compartment also has a fleece lined zippered pocket for glasses, wallet, or other valuables. The side pockets are perfect for water bottles and the zippered pocket is large enough for any extras.
This is well made and will most likely last many many years. Great for work, day trips, etc. It's an All-Purpose rucksack and another great LL Bean product.

I passed my old Bean rucksack down to my older son after I had used it for several years. He took it to China, overloaded with books and stuff for his year of study in international relations. After being in Beijing and Shanghai for months, he brought it back, still in good shape. Then he moved to Asia. The rucksack spent another five years in Taiwan when he moved back. But he had finally worn it out. Gladly, I'm giving him another Bean rucksack.
