Rated 5 out of 5 by SARTech A must have for SAR/ Field EMTs
Great visibility at night under marginal conditions. I purchased this watch to replace LLBeans field watch that I returned because I couldnt see the hands well enough in the backcountry. It's been slammed around since I've had it and shows no signs of giving up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by chitowndds Very good watch
I ordered the Sport Watch after reading some of the reviews and I must say I have been pleased. The face is a nice size as my middle-aged eyes can easily read it in the light or dark. The illumination is the best I have ever had in a watch. The only downside is that the strap can trap moisture, but it's rubber so that's to be expected. The rubber also gives it water resistance. Overall, I am very pleased with this watch on every level.

Rated 1 out of 5 by BeanYouRock Waterproof - Not!
I bought this watch for my husband. We both loved the rugged look of it. However, the first time he wore it while on a boat ride down a river, just the small amount of water that splashed on it got under the casing and created moisture that didn't evaporate after several days. This watch is advertised as being "water-resistant to 330 feet." Obviously, that was not our experience. Returning the watch. We expect far better quality from L.L. Bean.

Rated 5 out of 5 by CtonAUfan Self-illuminating Sports Watch
I recently purchased this watch after having owned (and been quite satisfied with) the self-illumionating field watch for several years. My 14y/o son permanently borrowed my field watch, and I needed to replace it. I mistakenly ordered a standard llbean field watch, but it lacked the self-illuminating features so I sent it back and got this watch. (exercised the 100% satisfaction guarantee- without a question)
From the other reviews I was planning on being disappointed with the band, but I find it comfortable and it appears durable -- time will tell. This watch appears to be have the same mechanism, face and illiumination features as my old watch, which never failed.
Overall this is a great looking sports watch at a great price, and carries the 100% satisfaction guarantee that comes with everything from LLBean, so I give it high marks. My only challenge now is to make sure my son doesn't "borrow" this one as well.
I do wish, however, that the bezel marker at the "0" second position were self illuminating; it would make the bezel more useful in the dark. But that is a minor issue, and I look forward to many years with this watch on my wrist.

Rated 4 out of 5 by geepondy Solid watch for the money
First, watch size info which LL Bean does not provide in the web site description.
Width: Approx 42mm, 45mm(incl crown)
Lug Width: 22mm
Lug to Lug: Approx 46mm
This watch is of a good medium size that fits well on a variety of wrist sizes. The build is robust and solid. The viewability of the uncluttered, clean face is good and the night time tritium illumination is excellent. Accuracy within the ten days that I've owned the watch is within 1 or 2 seconds so I'm sure it will fit within the 15 second/month tolerance of a typical quartz watch. A bonus is a nice case back with the LL Bean logo. The only major con is the cheap band which feels like it belongs on a $30 department store watch but as others have said, it's easily switchable.
Pros:
-Good viewability, especially at night
-A bezel that doesn't require rubber gloves to turn
-A sporty look that with a different band will also look good with chinos.
-Solid build quality
Cons:
-The rubber band looks cheap on this watch
-The date window could be bigger
-The stated battery life of two years is low compared to many movements these days which advertise five and even ten years of battery life.

I couldn't get this watch to start running. I think that it had been sitting on the shelf too long.
Sent it back as unsatisfied and for a refund.

Easy to use, easy to read... Great watch! It really am not a fan of the watch band, but it was easy to replace. It remains illuminated all night and the crystal appears to be hearty. Though I wish it was less expensive, but if this is like all of the other Bean products, it will have a long and useful life!

Rated 5 out of 5 by OLDCB Great Gift
I received this watch as a gift and it is one that I would have chosen for myself. Excellent readability day or night, easy to set, excellent water resistance, nice weight and size, strap is well made and the watch is well finished.

Rated 5 out of 5 by SFBayArea great watch
I bought this watch for myself because I wanted one with a non-metal and non-leather strap, the ability to see the time in the dark, a rotating bezel, and some degree of water resistance (meaning a screw-down crown).
Like all things LL Bean, the quality of this watch seems very good and in the instruction booklet that it comes with, there is info on how to send it back to LL Bean for new batteries, new crystal, and/or new strap, all for very reasonable costs.
The lights on the hour markers and hands are green, except for the 12 o'clock position which glows orange so you can tell the difference in the dark.
I noticed the info in LL Bean's description on the website says the watch is water resistant to 330 feet, the picture on LL Bean's website shows 300 feet on the watch face, and the markings on the face and case of the actual watch I received say 660 feet. I'm not a diver so I don't plan on going 660 feet under water (or even 300) so I'm not too concerned about the discrepancy, but I thought I'd point it out for other customers who may care about such things.
The only negative thing I have to say about this watch is that you cannot see the date in the dark without an outside light source. The previous watch I had (not from LL Bean) had a button that, when pressed, illuminated the whole face so I could see the date in the dark. This feature would be nice to have but it's not essential for me.
Overall I am quite pleased with this watch.
