Rated 4 out of 5 by winnie49 Strap is wearing out
I have three Healthy back packs. I bought them because they were recommended by a friend. I really do like them but......Two are great but the third has a strap that has worn and does not look good anymore. I have noticed this comment from several others also. I am assuming it is too late to exchange the worn one. I still love my bags and will continue to use them but I am disappointed with the strap.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Jeepsport Shoulder strap and cell phone pocket needs upgrade
This is my fourth healthy back bag. I love everything else about them but it is time for these two problems to be addressed by the manufacturer. The material used under the shoulder strap tears and disintegrates and the phone pocket does not reliably stick and safely hold a cell phone in place. I suggest a leather tear proof material under the strap and a large button/loop for cell phone pocket. I am going to try the llbean athletic back bag until it is improved upon.

I bought this bag to replace one I had that wore out. My previous bag was not purchased from LL Bean and I used it constantly for 6 years with good results. When it was time to replace it, I assumed all "Back Bags" were created equal and chose one made by LL Bean. I was wrong. The construction of the strap is very stiff. The strap is wide and unlike my previous bag it is not attached to the bag using a "spinner ring" that allows the strap to move and conform to your body. Because the strap is wide, stiff and has no "give" at the attachment it is forever falling off of my shoulder. I have now used it for a year hoping the strap would adjust but no luck. Also, within the first month the velcro closures on the side pocket flap had pulled away and were useless. I figured I could live with this defect so I did not return it. But my frustration with the strap has reached a point of no return. The bag is headed for the garbage.

by 6laurac Excellent design-one flaw with bag
I love the bag's lightweight material, the size is great and has plenty of inside pockets and I am happy with the pocket on the front for my cell phone. My only problem with the bag (which the great people at LL Bean are correcting by sending another bag) is my bag developed, after a little more than two weeks of use, a rip on the shoulder strap. I do not overload the bag so it was a surprise to see it today. I am looking forward to using this bag for a long time so I hope the replacement stays in great shape for a long time.

I love this bag -- have had several over the years. But I have a problem with the underside of the shoulder strap: it's disintegrated - makes the whole thing look shoddy. I see other comments with the same problem. What's to be done?

I loved my old larger one that I bought in about 2006, but the smaller replacement one had the strap fray and pull out within about 2 weeks. I returned it for the same bag and this one has had the same problem within days of the time I first used it. I will return this one also and keep returning them until someone at LLBean realizes that the strap is not adequately attached. It will be interesting to see how many I have to return before the problem is addressed by the manufacturer.

This was my fourth Healthy Back Bag. The first three were wonderful, except that they just needed to be replaced from over-use. The fourth one simply is not of the same quality. I did not care for the excessive use of Velcro, but I was willing to live with it. However, the non-slip material on the underside of the strap is literally falling apart. It is torn and shredded and the pieces show up on my clothing. I love this bag, but I would think twice before ever ordering another.

I recently replaced my old (over 10 yrs) bag which I loved. I have to say that I'm not totally happy with the new product. The new fabric looks cheap and makes the bag look like a knapsack. It's stiff and awkward, where the other was soft, tightly woven, and gave the bag a much more distinctive look. The interior compartments are still great and I like the addition of a flap on the exterior pocket below the strap. I also note the addition of more velcro on this bag, which was the first thing to go on my old one. so I'm not sure how this is going to wear. Overall I have to say I'm disappointed, I did recommend my old bag to many people over the years, but not sure that I will this one.

My last 2 healthy back bags had a leather flap, leather on the strap and leather pulls. It was stylish. It looked like a $99 bag. All the leather has been eliminated on the new version. It certainly doesn't look like a $99 bag. Even if it cost less I would not buy it as it has no eye appeal at all. Whereas I would buy the leather accented version in a flash if it were still being offered.
