Walking/bicycling every day for light grocery shopping, hauling computer to coffee/writing hangout, and rail day tripping--the carryall does it all. Like my high priced backpack (another make) which is the alternative, this carryall is the regular for me.
About the only change i would make to it is a band inside on one end to hold the Starbucks mug--consider that in the next design revision.

This bag is for my husband.I got it to replace another bag of his that was falling apart.This bag is constructed very well, and he is impressed with the durability and weight of the bag. The tough,sturdy fabric looks like it will hold up to wear and tear. The carbon color is a great color. I had my husbands initials monogrammed on the front zip pocket of the bag, just beautiful! The shoulder strap(detachable) with the non-slip pad appears thick and comfortable and comes with metal hardware. So glad I found this, it should last for a long time.

I guess I should have read the description provided for the briefcase more closely. I was expecting a bag with inside pockets/separators for my folders and books, etc. Instead the interior was just a large empty space for items to get lost in. Pretty useless as far as I am concerned. The exterior pocket designated for your laptop was also a disappointment. There is absolutely no protection provided, if you are worried about damage you need to provide protection yourself. None of this would have been a problem if the description had been more accurate or a picture of the interior provided. I never would have purchased it. I am returning the briefcase; it is totally unworthy of the LL Bean label.

The bag is on the smaller side for a briefcase, which is what I was looking for. Considering its size, it can hold a good volume and variety of items. I've carried it to work every day for a couple months now, and I've always been able to fit everything I need into it. I generally carry at least 2 meals, a compact umbrella, a couple notebooks, a few minor first aid items, a multitool, pens, pencils, a calculator, an ipod, and a Nook. The bag can handle all of that plus a little more and keep it well organized without feeling stuffed.

Rated 4 out of 5 Not Quite What I Expected
I bought this brief case as a Christmas present. Although the recipient was pleased, I was less than totally thrilled.
First, I find the fabric is rather thin. I think this is my biggest complaint. Yes, I suppose it's tough, but I just expected a heavier thickness. My second gripe is that the main compartment has no divider, which may be alright for some users.
There are good points, however. There are plenty of compartments on the front and in the back. If you need to carry something important and you want to isolate it from the rest of your stuff, then this works well. There are places for cards, pens, keys, and change or other small items.
The zippers all work well, and the shoulder strap is padded and comfortable.
Overall, I think it's good. If the fabric had been thicker, I would have given this product a 5-star rating.

I've been in the market for a new bag for quite some time. I was thinking about purchasing a fancy leather bag/briefcase. My brother talked me out of it by telling me, "you're always on the move and you're rough on your stuff". After thinking about his assessment, I decided he was correct and took a look through the LL Bean site. I've shopped here for a long time and have never been disappointed.
As for the bag itself, it is the best bag I have ever had for work. It has pockets for everything. Organized and neat as well as holds all of my paperwork and dittos, laptop, personal belongings and everything in between. You will not be disappointed!

I use this for work, but I carry it everywhere. So, although I may carry a book or a larger thing, there are small things that I need to get to frequently and I don't want to fish through a large bag every time.
I had another briefcase that I liked, but somehow, the pockets never really worked. I could not access the pens and the wallet easily, etc. So I went on a hunt for the perfect briefcase. This is pretty darn close.
I like it because the pocket in the flap keeps small things like keys, pens, cell phone, wallet, my medicine, right there where I can find it easily and it stays organized.
The opening for the main compartment is right on the top so that I don't have to lift over a flap to get to things. There is a pocket on one side that is good for a file or a magazine or even my ipad. There is another pocket under the flap - but I rarely use it.
The shoulder strap works pretty well for me. I kind of wish that the smaller handles didn't velcro together because it makes it hard to get to the main compartment, but it's more comfortable to hold the bag that way.
The one thing that I'd add, is a mesh pocket on the end, side, or somewhere for my water bottle. I hate to throw it in the bag because it will randomly leak - but sometimes you need your hands free.
Because I was looking for the perfect bag, I looked a lot of places online and pricewise, you cannot beat this. You will pay a lot more and get a less functional bag. I was actually WAITING for the email requesting a review - and I usually ignore those!
