Rated 5 out of 5 by Kaibab Own three of them
I own one with the interchangeable bands and two others to go with silver and turquoise bands purchased in Arizona. All three work great and if I get another designer band, I will get another LLBean watch to go with it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by watchme14 I love this watch!
I bought this watch about 25 years ago and wore it everywhere.. Some how I lost it over the years with moves and all. When I saw it again in the store I knew I had to have it! Love the ability to switch bands although the green is my favorite. The only complaint I have is that this time the small medal band holder came lose and my watch was only being held by one side. I fortunately found it right away and replaced it. If it falls out again, I will then have to have sent back.

Clean clear face, and a date display that is actually easy to change. Reliable in wet weather. A nice watch.
The strap is not wonderful. Works, but is a bit flimsy

I bought this watch for a deployment to Afghanistan. I wanted something simple and rugged and was curious to see how well a classic design from WWII would hold up in today's military. This watch has held up well, despite being put through some tough conditions. I do like the luminary hands, which enable easy telling of time for a long time after dark. It aslo looks good, simple and clean, and doesn't get hung up when taking gear and armor off like some bulkier watches. I have two main criticisms that prevent it from getting 5 stars. First, the band is huge. I have a smaller wrist so I have to fold the band in over itself through the fabric loop. Also, as others have noted the holes tend to wear over time, making the fit looser.

I thought this watch would be a bit smaller and lighter, but the trend is now toward these sort of exaggerated watches. This is the second watch I bought on "looks" in a catalog or online. The drawback of not being able to physically wear it before buying it makes it a guessing game. However, LLB has great customer service (English speaking American reps) so making a return is really easy. But I am keeping this watch because it is beautiful and I can live with the size and weight.

Rated 5 out of 5 Quick Service
I took my broken LL Bean watch into the local LL Bean store here in New York. They said they would mail me a replacement. To my surprise, the watch showed up 2 days later just ahead of my out of town travel. It's nice to deal with a company that can deliver excellent service.

Rated 3 out of 5 by JamesAP First One Defective
We bought this as a gift. The watch was defective: Its hands would get stuck together at the "6" location on the watch's face. Major disappointment for a relatively expensive watch with a good brand name. Customer Service was responsive, and the watch was replaced as quickly as possible. So far, the second watch is working correctly.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Rigby2 Nice watch, poor strap
This watch would be improved imeasureably with a nice calfskin leather wrist band. Hirsch make nice ones, and it could be sold as an option for an extra amount.
The vintage watch has a nicely designed case and stem. The visual balance works well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by DinoVA A rugged, simple watch that gets the job done.
A great watch, simple to operate and able to withstand lots of everyday wear and tear. Dial is easy to read, too. The exposed winding stem (compare to other field watch model) looks like it might be too delicate, but it isn't. It's larger and screws down to the watch body quite securely. I've had 5 of these over the last 20 years, 2 replaced outright under Bean's guarantee. I'd not keep going back if I wasn't so pleased with the watch.
Tip: if you wear the watch with a one-piece band and do not need the mounting pins to be springy, then glue them in place. I recently had one of these fall off my wrist and vanish forever while I was out hiking in the woods because the pins failed to hold the watch securely.
Tip 2: when the battery is due for replacement, the rubber o-ring should also be replaced. It usually stretches out too much when the watch back is removed, then will fail to give a good seal.

by Jwould Great watch, terrible band
I wanted to give 5 stars since the watch itself is great- nice looking and very functional.
Unfortunately I've been through 2 of the black watch bands in less than 6 months. They seem very badly built and fray along the holes and at the end- not in a nice "worn in" way either. The band I have on is still basically new and already fraying at the hole where I have it adjusted.
Picture shows that I'm talking about.
The watch is good enough that if you want it I'd suggest buying a band from somewhere else to replace the ones it comes with.
