I like the boot overall, but would have liked more padding in the insert of the boot...insert very thin.

I finally have to replace the pair I bought over 7 years ago. I hike extensively and work as a landscaper. The boot fits well, has a generous toe box. It fits best with hiking socks. It has been through streams, mud, you name it, keeping me dry and slip-free. The boots are cracking on the upper leather, near the pinky toe, otherwise I would still keep them.

My old hiking boots from Beans lost their "sole" so I tried these mid-cut Gore Tex shoes. They are so comfortable. I thought I would have to take a few weeks to "break them in," but that was not necessary at all. Fit is perfect for me - I ordered a size 7 medium width, and that is my normal shoe size. I also was concerned that the boots might be too heavy, and they aren't. Love these new hikers. They will come in very handy for our trip to New Zealand! Thanks, LL Bean, for another GREAT product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Boulderhiker They fit!
These boots really fit me well. I have very long, skinny feet, and it's really hard to find hiking boots that are narrow enough. These boots in 11N fit me like they're supposed to. And I went on a 4 mile hike with them and they felt great - no break in time needed! And they feel sturdy and warm enough for long hikes and snow showing. I'm very pleased.

This is my time buying these shoes. I had my first pair for many years, but due to my aging (and growing feet), I needed a bigger size. I used to wear a 7 1/2 and my foot is now an 8. I ordered the 8 and it fits fine, but is a bit snug. Not a whole lot of difference between my old 7 1/2 pair and new 8 pair, but enough for them to work. I think an 8 1/2 would have been too big. The quality is standard LL Bean quality so I'm satisfied!

Rated 5 out of 5 by YGirl comfortable but be careful of size
I ordered my regular size 6W, but they were too snug. After trying the same boot a half size up, still too snug. A full size up (7M) fit perfectly. I got the same boot in Men's style for my husband a full size up and he is thanking me for it. It is a very comfortable boot on the trail, as long as it fits.

I ordered 7 1/2 AA. I received 7 1/2 M. Put them on and they are perfect. The heels slip just a teensy bit, but my heels are extremely narrow. I'll just put a heel-slip in there and they'll be perfect. My regular athletic shoe size is 7 1/2 AA. My dress shoe size is 7 AA. I've only worn them once (for 4 miles) and they felt like house shoes. Buy them! They're great!

Rated 5 out of 5 by mellen Stabilizing and comfortable without being too high
The mid-cut boot is very well made and provides a stable base to prevent twists on uneven terrain, without needing to have a lot of height on the ankle. Because stability comes from the sole design, it is intentionally not highly flexible. It is waterproof and easy to clean off. Unlike many boots, it seems to run true to your normal shoe size. There is a generous toe box, even with medium-thickness hiking socks. There are no rough edges inside, so the boot does not chafe. Laces stay tight. The boot is not lightweight (I have a taller pair that weighs less) but weight is not a problem. The basic break-in time has been minimal; I have already used these boots successfully as day hikers on trails.

I agree with the poster (luckypup) who said their toes went numb in these boots. I ordered a 9W and usually wear 8,5M. Wow! Tight! And after about two hours hiking in these boots and wearing my light weight LL Bean hiking socks, MY toes had gone numb! Never had that problem before! These do not seem a wide boot. I also noticed that the laces come down further on the toe box area than my other hiking boots. That pressure may have contributed to the numb toes. I have now taken the laces out of the final fabric loop on the toe area and just have them gently laced through the eyelets. This seems to relieve some of the compression I felt while wearing them on my hike. With these less confined laces, will try them on one more hike before returning them. Would liked to have had one more hook at the top for finishing off my lace-ups. Arch support was nice. Soles held up nicely and comfortably!

Rated 4 out of 5 by OSUfaninMichigan Narrow is too narrow
I had a pair of LLBean boots that were narrow and fit me like a glove. My feet have changed so I need a larger size now. I wanted these! Because I knew I needed break-in time, I tried the 9.5 and 10 AA, I tried the 9.5 and 10 med. before I left to on a big hiking trip out east. When I got to the flagship store, I was told they run narrow. None of the sizes in this boot worked for me. I ended up with a different brand in size 10 med. I still got them at Bean, but sadly, not their boot. I never thought I would ever find a shoe/boot that was too narrow for me. These are well-made boots and would have lasted me the rest of my hiking days if they had worked.
